Thomas P. Doyle: I've seen you on various tv shows and films and I admire your having the courage of your convictions to speak out about this horrendous evil that's gone on for decades. I live in the Philadelphia, PA area and have read every page of the 2018 Grand Jury Report detailing the sexual abuse by 301 priests in the state of Pennsylvania and what they did to thousands of minors here, since the 1940s. What was especially upsetting to me personally was that 4 of the 301 priests detailed in the report taught at my own high school during the years I attended there and I knew all four of the priests. One of the 4 also lived in residence at my parish. It bothers me tremendously that I thought so highly of this man and of the other 3. I thank you for your work in this field.

It is utterly nauseating that Archbishop Paul Marcincus was merely transfered ro SUN City, Arizona after his bank/money laundering scandal, which we now discover is linked to the abduction and brutal murder of an Italian, 15-year-old music student, who actually lived inside Vatican walls...and given a high mass at his death with papal honors and blessings! BEYOND DISGUSTING!

I came home to the Catholic church in 2010, formerly Presbyterian. I am Catholic, and am offended to my core with the continued scandalous behavior of the hierarchy and their dismissal of lay members of the church's very real outrage and fear that monsters are allowed unchecked to stalk new victims. Guess what? Many of us do not regard priests as elevated above us and not accountable to the laity. I didn't see that in the catechism or the Bible. Some smaller version of the Church will survive after the hierarchy has bankrupted it. We won't be able to support the "Princes" of the church and they'll lose what they spent the church's millions to protect. We'll have to retire many or most of them. Maybe this is the righteous anger of Jesus kicking over their chests of treasure and driving them out. We Catholics will still be here and rebuild what is left, God willing.

In my opinion, people are as well guilty - they tolerate being treated like shit by the hierarchy - they go to church they are treated as pushovers especially ordinary people because the hierarchy has a great love and is running behind the reach but ordinary good people with the genuine attitude they are used and abused but they do not come with any conclusion and they do not take any steps they just return again, they give their money, their time for this institution and again the same procedure has a place - in my opinion, this is the attitude of the drug addict - they knew that fellow sells them death but they return because the need for opium is treated than the common sense - they do not help themselves unfortunately and this what hierarchy abuse

A few years ago, I received a payment from the Archdiocese of Philadelphia if I promise not to sue the Archdiocese in thr future.Recently I found out the Archdiocese had published a list of credibly accused deceased priests. The name of my abuser was not on the list.

God sees idolatry as reducing Him to filth. Idolatry is reducing God's body to an inanimate object, which is detestable. God sees it as an expression of dishonor; a vile affection. And the punishment for idolatry perfectly fits the crime. God's recompense for idolatry is to cause idolators to dishonor their own bodies likewise....to do that which is detestable and filthy and perverted and vile and against nature. Break down all your Roman Catholic images and idols and worship God in spirit and in truth and the curse will be lifted. I don't even hope that Roman Catholicism will take the cure. But you, sir, must come out of that idolatrous church TODAY. The curse of Sodomy is found in every other idolatrous "religion", which is nearly every religion in the world except the TRUE church of God, wherein you will NEVER see any man-made image of anything in heaven or in earth or in the water under the earth. And you will NEVER see any true believer bow down himself to images or idols. Neither will you see ANY true believer suffer from the divine recompense for idolatry, SODOMY!!! As a Catholic, I have no issues, frankly none of us do, with experts, citizens, and victims bringing forth these issues and crimes, and discussing the errors and horrors committed, as well as bringing punitive damages to those involved as well as corrective recommendations, The only issue I have with all of this, is that a lot of people want to promote this idea that The Church was complicit and a proponent of these crimes, negating that The Church was following the guidelines established by the psychological experts, at the time, believing (or at least claiming) this was a curable problem. These narratives, also, minimize the fact that it was the Church that initiated it's own internal investigaton and brought the issues and horrors to light and to their respective authorities and not that this was an external investigation or exposé. Then there is those cases where, though they were clergy this was done outside the church and in remote locations unrelated to the Church, yet because they were clergy, the Church took absorbed it as if it were an issue in The Church. Not like The Church is an institution that promoted or revered sexual abuse of any kind, like those individuals and institutions that promote child mutilations and abortions.

I’ve listened to the complaints of nuns who are have been used as brothels and convents or nunneries with old style lye pits for nuns’s babies to be despised of. The modern way waits until the nun is 8 month pregnant and then she get and abortion. These nuns are victims they’ve been put under an order to remain silent when they truly need to talk to someone. Yes this is sex outside of marriage and the perpetrator is still a priest or higher up male. Now Orthodox priest marry. Has a comparison to sex abuse in the Orthodox Church been looked at. I dare say with men who have wives, their sexual frustration is something they handle properly. Why isn’t the church sayin “we made a grave mistake with celibacy and that men and women who wish to dedicate themselves in a special way to God can do so while married.” It is standard practice that even physicians do not see you in an exam room without a nurse with them for their protection as well as the patient. Why is this not a rule for the church? Clearly, the hierarchy looks at the laity as those who are there to give them position and honor and to be doormats. This is not the description of Christian love. The church fears being reformed, how about another word: “repentance” to change the behavior. If a priest has offended, don’t let him have access to children or women if he is going after them. There are women of the church who have born the babies of priests too. This is just bad. Everyone need to have checks and balances in their lives and the church leadership needs that too. This is just corruption and has nothing to do with godly living. I commend the efforts being made by the laity, but there were definite needs for reform as the church was having Inquisitions, selling indulgences to finish St. Peter’s Basilica. Instead of listening to complaints, they wanted to kill the man complaining. Martin Luther escaped with his life. What it did lead to is everyone got to be able to read the Bible, but translators, men who were scholars, Latimer and Ridley, were burned at the stake and they were good men. The laity got Bibles paid for in the blood of Protestants. Protestants are not angry at Catholics we’ve worked together for feeding the poor and clothing ministries. It serves no purpose. But we are yet under the anathemas of Rome with Muslims who rape your nuns and kill your priests are deemed “saved” from having the faith of Abraham. If any religion qualifies for being Anti-Christ, Islam is it. Catholics and Protestants are working together to reach Muslims apart from the church hierarchy. So long as Islam is strong, there are many deaths and yes, they exploit children sexually too. It grieves me most what is happening to Catholic children as if the anti-Christ faith rapes boys and girls, how can Catholic priests who are representing Christ be doing this too?

I have always admired your courage and integrity., Tom. I was raised Catholic. I was abused. I walked away as soon as could. I am a happily married (37 years and counting) gay man. I have heard for years that “the church isn’t the bishops, it’s the people’. I think the more honest statement is “the church SHOULD be the people”. The reality, as you so well articulate is that the Catholic Church is an authoritarian hierarchy, empowered by magical beliefs, led by a largely psychologically unwell clergy. It is evil. When I say “I hate that evil, that I hate the the Catholic Church” (and I do) does that mean I hate the people? If the church is the people what does it mean to ‘leave’ the church? When I say “I am not a Catholic ‘ does that mean I am not one of ‘the people?

Father you said seminarians were previously required to go to seminary for 12 years. When did this change? Incidentally, I am not surprised at the report about the immaturity of priests compared to lay people of the same age. For example, one of my relatives has no problem seeking advice from young priests who entered seminary immediately after graduating from high school. With all due respect to the priesthood, a priest who lived with his parents, entered seminary as a very young man, and is still very young, has limited "life" experiences in my humble opinion. This sort of priest is young enough to be her grandson. I listen to the adoring faith she puts in such men. That is not the case with me. You have to live some and have experienced some of the "common" life experiences that are a part of aging. Otherwise, there is not that much guidance you are going to be able to give me. Conversely, if you have moved away on your own and supported yourself by working on a regular job for a period, then you and I can meet on mutual grounds. I will respect you, but I will seek counsel from priests who are more mature. Blessings

I've long been aware of the ancient practice of pederasty - relationships between men and boys - certainly it was a part of such Mediterranean cultures as Macedonia, Greece and Rome. Moreover I think the Church, assuming much of Roman institutional culture likely absorbed such a practice and while it may have formally forbidden such practices, it did little to eradicate it within the body of the Church as a whole. Please provide the source reference for the stated '98AD written evidence'. It is impossible to understand what you are saying - someone called 'Audit' gave the instruction, or (no name given) 'ordered' the instruction. What a sad state of affairs that you have left the True Faith! The corruption is sickening, but it is not what the Catholic Church teaches or has taught. I will pray for you!

That's what happens when a religion is headed by Satan. The other problem is that the church rules with an iron fist. Followers of catholicism are told they can not question anything. This leads to fear of damnation to hell. As a result they keep silent. The other is that this behavior is confined and in some cases rewarded by the pope and down the line. This mind you, from a church that calls their priests "alter cristus", another Christ and whose leader says he is the vicar of God. Shameful, disgraceful.

The Church doesn't save. Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior saves from eternity without a relationship with our Creator who loves us. Jesus has never stopped praying for us or the church and asks us to pray for the church. Seeing the church but not seeing Jesus praying and present and forming a relationship through prayer with God. Jesus asks me to follow Him, but not to expect the people in the church to be minor dieties that can save me from my sins. Jesus does ask me to love and forgive sinners found in the church. I forgive the church. Spiritual blindness is seeing only the sins of the church or seeing only saints. Dont reject the many for the sins of a few.
