I saw them about a year later on their Highway to Hell tour and it's still one of the greatest shows I've ever been to. Just insane and they keep at it for the whole show. Angus Young sure did have a lot of core strength, but so did Bon Scott. At one point, little Angus Young got on the shoulders of a large muscle-bound black dude, who then carried him up and down every single aisle in that small arena, and it was about a 20-minute guitar solo as he went up and down and that's back when remotes were new and he was just blazing away the whole time and Bon Scott's down there just dancing around on the stage. I was sitting three seats in from the end of a row and when he went by, you could see how beat up his guitar was and the scratches on it and the decalson back that were all mostly worn off, and he was head-banging and his hair was soaked with sweat and he was flinging it all around and some drops of it actually went straight into my eyes, and it burned. And all of it was just so insanely loud. It is one of my fondest concert memories. Sadly, Bon Scott died only months later.
Saw AC/DC with Bon Scott open up a “Day on the Green” concert at the Oakland Coliseum around 77- 78 They were followed in order by Van Halen, Pat Travers band , Foreigner , and Aerosmith . Pretty good day of music.
I saw AC/DC, with Bon Scott, twice in the late '70's -- when you could see a great show with 2 or 3 bands for $5. This video is the way I remember them! I saw them again in 1980 with Brian Johnson on the Back in Black tour. All great shows, but I have a special fondness for Bon...
Same here! I think the tickets were around $5 and they were opening for Cheap Trick. And then Bon Scott died and then when they toured again for Back in Black with Brian Johnson a year or so later, it's funny because they were once again paired with Cheap Trick, only this time Cheap Trick was now the opener and ACDC was the headliner. And yeah I feel the same way. I like both eras but the stuff I saw live with Bon Scott was just so intense.
I think Cheap Trick were with them at least twice when I saw them. Then there were some different opening acts. Nantucket was one of them. It's nice that somebody else remembers those days!
I absolutely love Bon Scott and wish he would have lived many more years but thank god for Brian as well because if you can't love Back in Black because it isn't Bon then I feel sorry for you. Also between Jimmy Page, Tony Iommi and Angus they RIFF GODS were smiling!
The Young brothers were born in Glasgow. Bon Scott was born in Kirriemuir. They grew up in Australia, so this was a homecoming for them. This is from ‘If You Want Blood,… You’ve Got It!’, one of the all-time great live albums. Check out “Whole Lotta Rosie” from the same show. Thanks!
The two Young Brothers, and Bon Scott’s family emigrated from Britain, Scotland, to Australia. Brian J’ was from Newcastle, up near the Scots border. Glasgow, and Newcastle (and Liverpool) are ports, shipping, fishing. In Glasgow, it’s whisky or ale. Rock bands like AC/DC to play in Glasgow was a homecoming, personally. Rock bands know that Glasgow is a place to prove themselves. Bon Scott has a statue in Fremantle, Australia. Down river from Perth, on the Indian Ocean. I have visited. There is Rock! Bon is honored!
Bon and Angus are brilliant but to me this version of the song belongs arguably to the rythm section and in particular Phil Rudd on the drums, his drumming on this is non stop and loud and crisp.
Whoa W H A T T H E F U U U D G E Was THAT!!! OMG i just this very moment fell in **Luv** with **Angus Young** he is like made of rubber or something ha just too too cool ha RockON!!!
I don't think the band died when Bon died (2/11/80) the same day my dad died. But I was used to that version. (glad I never heard Dave Evans-their first singer, ) Brian Johnson is amazing. But it is just 2 shades of ACDC. It feels weird sometimes when Brian does a Bon song, but not terrible. Bon is the one who helped them climb to the top, Brian came and kept them there for decades.
You should check out the whole live in Paris show. One of the greatest ever live concerts with Angus and Bon at their absolute peak. Unfortunately I think RU-vid blocks it on reactors.
People nowadays think of old AC/DC but they tore it the F up when they were young guys! Easily one of the greatest rock bands of all time in their prime!
I wish I knew of more live Bon to recommend. Maybe something else from this show? I'll be here bc I like the Bon era WAAAAAAY more than the Brian era. Although, Brian may have been the only one with that sound to carry them another 30+ years, so I'll give him his due.
As a decades long fan of AC/DC, I can't imagine the band without either Bon Scott or Brian Johnson. It is also laughable for any "fan" to claim that the band died after Bon, since they have had their biggest albums and songs with Brian. Having said that, Angus and Malcolm are, or were, the true cornerstones of AC/DC.
The biggest songs with Brian? Are you serious? Concert 2023, Indio, California. AC/DC played 24 songs. 13 songs from the 6 years with Bon 11 songs from the 43 years with Brian. Now think again!
@@dhpoint3054 Back in Black, You Shook Me All Night Long, Hells Bells, Thunderstruck, etc...all bigger than anything that Bon ever did, and I'm not taking away from Bon at all, as they had a number of big songs with him as well. Back in Black is also their biggest album by far, and with Bon, they never filled the stadiums that they do with Brian, so yes, they have had their biggest albums and songs with Brian.
@@jeff316 Okay, you talk about the greatest hits, I talk about the best songs. Thats why they play still more „Bon Songs“ live. Anyway. “Back in Black” was clearly a tribute to Bon, with over 50 million albums sold. I bought one copy too. It was my last from AC/DC. And then? „Only“ five million copies of „For those about…“ were sold. There must be a reason why 45 million people didn‘t buy a copy again. The success of the group proves you right, but for me, AC/DC died, the night Bon died.
@@dhpoint3054 If for you, AC/DC "died" when Bon died, that's both sad, as well as insulting to Angus and Malcolm, who with their short stature, were always bigger than the singer, as it was they who were the driving force behind the band. As I've said before, I can't imagine the band without either Bon or Brian, as they have both contributed to it, Bon for about 7 years, and Brian for over 40 years now.
@@jeff316 I love their music from the 70s and Bon‘s voice anyway. But I don’t like their music (and voice) from 1980 onwards. Maybe if Brian Johnson had sung like he did with Geordie, not so strained and artificial. That's a matter of taste, but not an insult. I had wished for the singer from Krokus as a successor back then. However, I probably wouldn't have given him a real chance either. 😉
