When AC/DC replaced Bon Scott with Brian Johnson, it was the most unlikely and lucky comeback of a band ever. Brian Johnson deserves a lot of respect for what he did, and he is a great singer and front man. But when you see this concert right here it's obvious that there was something about Bon Scott that was just magical.

Solid assessment. Bon Scott was more of a magnet to women… Brian Johnson, more blue collar and brawny; a man’s man. Nod goes to Bon based on body of work.

Bon Scott, ozzy, nuff said😊born in 68' i was actually at Woodstock only problem is, neither Bon nor OZ played at that particular event...not to mention I was only 1 year old!!!! Lol, Bon had it all but you get what we have here. While Brian did a heck of a job, there was just 1 True front man of ACDC however Angus might have something to say about that!!!😮 peace out

Wow..I saw them as a college kid at a similarly small club called the Agora Ballroom in Atlanta. That stop was probably part of this 1978 tour Pete Drummond was refering to just before he was cut off at the beginning of "Problem Child". LOL!! The energy and intensity was equally ferocious. They were a hungry and tight rock n roll group.

I saw AC/DC just a couple months apart from this video and it was absolutely stunning. We didn't know much of anything about this band, they were the opening act for Aerosmith. I remember at the start of their set when a lone spotlight hit Bon Scott as the band still in the shadows started building into the first song - Sin City...our first look at this unknown band from Australia. I will never never forget Bon Scott's huge grin on his face as he surveyed the crowd in from of him, he was completely aware that this town (Rapid City SD) had no idea of the amplified sledgehammer that was about to hit them and his knowing grin immediately caused the hair on the back of my neck to stand on end.....no shit. The band launched into Sin City and the whole electric energy of the arena exploded with the crowd on the floor surging into the stage to get a closer look at this amazing spectacle. As I saw Angus Young strike the first chord to the verse his head was wildly thrashing front and back, I thought to myself "wow is this guy is on some serious speed or something because his head looks like it could pop off with the intense thrashing!! I then quickly realized he was a fantastic guitar player he was and even though he was thrashing and skipping all over the stage he wasn't missing a note!! He just flowed right from verse to chorus and into astounding guitar solos that were just amazing. By the third song AC/DC had won over the audience and the floor thrashed and moved with the beat in total sync with the band now. It was an unforgettable sight and really left most of us with our jaws hanging open afterwards "wow what did we just see!?" Aerosmith tried to follow this band but even though Steven Tyler worked his ass off and had that rock star charisma the band as a whole looked like they were very drugged out (Perry) and just didn't have the energy or tightness to match the lean and mean energy that AC/DC possessed in Spades. I went out and bought Powerage the next day and it's still my favorite by them.

I had a similar experience when I saw them in Dallas - must have been the same tour as ACDC was the "warm up" band for Aerosmith. When they finished their set, it was almost a let-down when Aerosmith came on.

Hey man, awsome story,I felt like I was experiencing it w you..that's so funny about the all knowing grin Bon had before it started..as I watched this footage..I remember thinking..wow,I thought I remembered not really caring for riff raff, I know I heard the studio, I was like 12,back in black just dropped, my dad worked for Warner Electra Atlantic at the time,so getting records and shit was easy.. as well as tickets and backstage passes..but I was too young to be able to take advantage..coolest was going backstage to the eagles in 83..anyhow..when I saw this footage,it was like rediscovering acdc..when I thought I knew the very best of,inside and out..I hear riff raff, sin city, kick in the teeth..(damn,that song rocks) and down-payment blues..just dope song after sick ass song..for years as a kid I'd air guitar w all angus's mannerisms..watching this brought back obscure memories like the acdc movie..let there be rock..I think..it was at the theater, reg movies but they had Marshall stacks at the front..it wound up being pretty close to a concert ,never experienced anything like it with another band..your experience w acdc, was like mine w bon Jovi opening for Ratt..they were unknowns yet,and they kinda stole the show too. I had no idea just how damn good they were w bon in the early years..they were truly at their peak, even though some more monster records were a brewing..the tragedy is that bon dying on a winters night, really drunk, placed in,or he chose to go in a car and sleep it off..only to succumb to alcohol poisoning and I'm sure the cold didn't help..but it was a less than glorious way to go out..what a shame!! His brother had recently done an interview somewhere on you tube, his one and only to answer a few questions definitively about Bon.

Ryan Herbert - So agree. I've listened to a fair and reasonable amount of live recordings from AccaDacca and the only gig that I reckon comes anywhere near this is their 1979 Let There Be Rock: The Movie - Live in Paris. The album was recorded live on 9 December 1979 at the Pavillon de Paris in Paris, France, during their Highway to Hell World Tour. Also of note is their 'Bonfire' 5 Disc Boxset. It's awesome and also contains the previously mentioned live gig in Paris '79. Also Disc 1 of 'Family Jewels' [DVD] is pretty good too as it contains songs from '75 through to '80 when Bon was in charge. I have always preferred Bon to Brian, but that's taking nothing away from Brian as he was a superb vocalist with the group too.

@@67telecaster67 Sweet comment bro. You know I've just rocked the clock round to 58 [I'm a Scorpio - so I don't deal in half-heartedness...or whether the glass is half empty or full...it's all 'bout excess and lots of it - which was why I had my near-death motorcycle accident here in New Zealand in '90 when I was 26, cost me my entire left leg as high up as hip and pelvis amputated too...v fortunate to survive that wee fall from non-gracefullness tell ya] and a mate asked me the other week if I'd ever heard of 'Tragically Hip'...and if so what did I think of them...well I have/hadn't actually and he gave me a url to hit on RU-vid to listen to them. Yep liked them instantly. Smart Canadian outfit. Great lyrics. Need to listen to a lot more though. Most groups/bands over here in New Zealand during the '80s were er...a little on the 'tame' side for me if you get my drift. I always preferred listening to Australian rock groups instead as they had tended to 'live a wee bit more and definitely 'harder' - and I guess by what I mean by 'harder' is...well...seen more sides to a city than just the middle and upper classes shall we say...another way to describe it would be experienced some harsher elements to life perhaps....not just the red roses...perhaps the 'dirt they grow in' would suffice. And partied a little longer than mid-night...yeah that's it...Do you know I first listened to Deep Purple at the age of 10...on a friend's bedroom record player...their album 'Deep Purple In Rock'...Side 1 Track 1...'Speed King'...blew my farrrrrrrrrrrrKING mind. So I worked a morning milk vendor round and saved enough $ to buy my very first vinyl LP...Deep Purple 'Machine Head' at the age of 12 in '76. My father had just bought our family a 'stereo' and it was placed in the lounge. Well...as my parents were a little...er older than most of my friends and my dad was in to 'James Last' and my mum was in to 'Engelbert Humperdinck'....when I cranked up the volume knob to Deep Purple 'Highway Star' on that freakin' lounge stereo boy did I get the rark up....'TURN THAT STEREO DOWN NOW!'...

The sheer amount of stamina it takes to go from an already high-gear Rocker to an explosive Let There be Rock at the show finale is mindblowing. And that goes both ways - band and audience. It's like each part is fueling the other in a constant feedback and synergy, as if it were symbiosis. That's raw energy right there.

One of the greatest rock n' roll frontmen to ever walk a stage. It was virtually unheard of(especially in the hard rock/metal world at the time) for somebody to be that animated and "dancey" on stage as Bon was. Prince, Michael Jackson, Bruno Mars - sure, but you're into the pop realm at that rate. Mercury (with his opera background) had a better all around vocal delivery, but not even he was as animated. Morrison, somewhat, still nowhere near the level of Bon. Iggy Pop maybe on the same planet, but he was more of a loon. One of the greatest ever..even the late great Selena loved AC/DC and no doubt "borrowed" from Bon - her and Chris had to have watched the old VHS tapes of Bon.🎸
