Words can't describe how absolutely idiotic this decision was. This is what I have always dreaded which is having an owner who is clueless and doesn't understand the club he owns. An inept manager or technical crew can be sacked but we can't sack this buffon. I am so heartbroken right now.
@@JP-vj7fp The Glazers nearly ruined the club mate honestly these rich Arab owners are much better than American owners, one cares about winning while the other about money 🤷♂️
They ripped the heart out of Milan. They fired The man who gave everything for the club - his whole life! He has always been the man who made a team out of individuals. With hardworking, fairness, a winning spirit and with and an ear and an eye for the youngsters. He never let anyone down. Not only during his active time, but also as a director. Shame to the Milan owners.
I am speechless, even with Elliot at the helm you could see the essence of Milan. This year I saw Gordon Singer more times in the stands than Gerry Cardinale... A former owner, that didn't decide to buy this club but repossessed it as collateral, was more times in the stands than the current owner that bought this club at his own volition... Ill never forget the time when he took a jab at Çakır after the Atletico game, it just shows that he cared even a tiny bit beyond money and still does... Gordon is as busy man as Gerry if not more, managing a fund literally 35 times larger than Gerrys ($70b vs $2.3b), which currently has only 0.001% vested interest in this club (600m loan to Redbird at 7% interest rate) compared to Redbirds 60% vested interest in relation to the size of the fund, yet still found the time for AC Milan, but this tool didn't... I think the project that was in place, is no more. Gerry was supposed to raise the funds for the Elliot debt this year, but couldn't. With Chelsea out of nowhere getting an American owner, FSG of Liverpool instead of selling also raising funds, and Man. United on sale, AC Milan is no longer as attractive investment option in football for Americans as it was last year, which is the reason why Redbird haven't managed to raise the 200 to 300m by the end of the year as they hoped, and that 7% interest rate at half a billion is starting to burn a real hole in the Redbird Capital fund as a whole... The only way forward for Redbird is, stay near the top so you can expand the fanbase in untapped markets, but necessarily you don't have to be at the top. Buy young cheap players based on the buzz worthy "moneyball" theory that doesn't really apply in football but your investors don't really know that, they just need to see that the players (assets) you have brought increased the value of the club within a season (even if only marginally it still matters, which is why the CDK investment hurts them so much). Don't post losses, so if and when needed sell Rafa, Theo, Mike... Finally, go all in on the stadium at the real estate location that would increase the value of the club the most. Do all these right, and in 10 years, Redbird can flip AC Milan for at least double the price they got them, which is the reason why funds like Redbird exist in the first place. With all that in mind, I think the outcome of the meeting with Maldini was decided back in January. Damn, the banter era was bad, but the essence of Milan was still felt even if just as glimpses at time, but it still was there. If this turns into Banter 2.0 it will be much worse, since this club no longer feels like AC Milan at all. We were "family" there was certain respect and honour always within AC Milan. But with this move, it seems we last the respect in every corner of the footballing world. No player would take us seriously any more, so no player would decide to go to Milan for lower pay like many did now... I can imagine Furlani trying to convince Mike to extend his deal, selling him nonexistant project, or convincing the next Theo why Milan would be the right place for his development... Uhhhh, this will hurt.
Genuinely speechless reading this, I hope some things you mention won't happen because it will be calamitous! I truly get the sense that Cardinale wants to run the club on a data science basis and is going all in on that.. obviously Maldini will not fit in that plan. But the heartlessness of this firing is incredible but also makes sense coming from a New York hedge fund owner lol
Milan will always be there. We just have to wait for this moron to go away. And he will because he'll manage to be in the need to sell and cut the losses before it's too late. You can't make money in football. He was just plain dumb to make this investment in something he clearly knows nothing about
This is just insane, I'm speechless... been a fan of AC Milan (and the Italian squad) since the '80s when I was just a little girl watching their matches with my late grandpa. Knowing how loyal Paolo is to the club really hurt the fans who love the club that he's being sacked like this... #CARDINALEOUT
I met Maldini in CARDIFF. We went to their hotel before their friendly match with Man united. we were with Milan London Fan Club. We were told that they will send in a few players to meet&greet. Borini, Leao, and Silva came in... They were kind, nice and friendly. I loved Leao in the first sight. Full of energy and smiling. He was not a star he is now. But you could sense he is the boy. Then, Maldini stepped in. I could not control my emotions. I took maybe 4 pictures with him. We were like 20 fans, he stayed for about 20 minutes. Signed shirts, scarfs and everything. He was smiling, kind and friend the whole time. I lived with that emotion for the rest of my summer. I still get goosebumps. Thanks for sharing yours. ForzaMilan
@@sergiorodriguez956 come on, nobody in their right mind could hate on Maldini or neglect his impact on your team. The issue is, I can't really see a decent obvious replacement that would instantly work for you, ala Sabatini or Marotta.
@@kaneblood3531 we don't care about zlatan he's good. but Maldini is different he's the one of true legend of Italy. why the owner disrespect your club by sacked him? it's just stupid in Inter perspective it's like firing Zanetti inter hero. no one will do that
I'm sure we would've gotten Kamada and Loftus-Cheek. Now I'm sure the player we target are going to second guess signing with us because Maldini isn't here anymore. Just his presence was enough to attract players. I'm just hurt honestly.
Kush I think this might not be unrelated to the interview Maldini had after the Inter match. Similar to when Boban left, but these things are really heartbroken ... Sad
I had felt sad when Ibrahimovic was retiring during the Hellas Verona match and then this had to happen the day after his retirement. This dude had Milan fans go from being sad to angry within a day. He came to this club not even knowing about this club or its history and not aware that we have second most champion's league. Where was he when Maldini came in 2020 to help bring Milan back to UCL, winning a scudetto? For me, Gerry had to do this on the worst day possible after Zlatan's retirement to give a bad news and this taints his retirement for myself. Right now, I have never felt myself go through both emotions in a span of a day like this.
Honestly I donno what to say. Like u said, the first thing that came to my mind was what the players will be thinking. All the best players of this era was brought in by Paolo. Now they all will be having doubts.
I feel sick all day today. What makes me upset the most is, Milan already got some promising palyers, all we need is just a few key pieces to make us competitive in Europe again and I believe that's what Paolo has asked in that meeting, and yet that bustard did this. He only wants to have an okay club and sell it for money.
Kush this news is putting me in so much stress man, I have only been Milan supporter for 1 year now and even I know that this is a stupid decisions. Please God save us. SemperMilan
This is sad. Milan were on the verge of becoming a great club again. I want to see Maldini's vision come true somewhere that deserves it even if it is somewhere else.
“It feels sinister.” Absolutely. This smacks of power plays and back-stabbing and politics. The new owner was out to get Maldini, a man of honour who demands quality, and the owner’s yes-men worked with him to take Maldini out.
Gerry Cardinale has just made a tutorial on how to destroy an entire club's structure in one day, thus becoming the most disliked person in the entire Milan community.
As an outsider (Madrid fan), this might just be the most insane move by any top football team since...well since I know of myself lol. It also perfectly encapsulates why I hate the involvement of foreign enteties with no respect of our cultures, herritage and history and none of their own to speak of, in European sports, especialy football. European sports were never business first like in the USA. It is sports first, entertainment and business second. Fans are actualy fans/supporters, even ultras, not just spectators. Sport is a way of life, not just something you happen to stuble upon with your drinking buddies.
This is what happens when you provide the ownership of a major club like AC Milan to an American company Redbird who literally knows nothing about Italian football to begin with, I already knew this American company was going to destroy AC Milan 😒😒
The owners true colours have come out. Theo, Leao, Bennacer all signed because of Maldini. Them leaving on transfers and the owners cashing in was the plan all along. We will never get to an 8th champions league like this.
Sad to see this - Just when everything was head the right direction - I dont understand why Cardinale did this - We can now be sure this owner is going to create a lot of problems moving forward
Cardinale thinks he is dealing with Toulouse or so ! They try turn Ac Milan warm place where the players think as a family to a cold corporation to buy cheap and sell big as Leipzig and Dortmund. If the fans don’t boykot the whole F seasons then Milan will become a mid table club.
I've lost ALL respect for Cardinale. Dude needs to sell the team immediately. I guarantee Leao is second guessing why he re-signed as a result of this moronic move.
It's time to take a stand against these owners who know nothing about football. Let's show them that the club belongs to us the fans not them. Pioli and all his technical staff need to resign. All the players must put in their transfer requests. No AC Milan fan should set foot on any staduim where AC Milan is playing. Instead we must gather outside the staduim and protest for the return of Maldini. If the investors do not want to work with Maldini than they must sell the club. Forza Milan. Sempre Milan!!!
Honestly I'm not going through this banter period one more time. The last 12 years have been enough for me with many bad owners. And you know, the real reason I cant watch it is because I know how big opportunity we have now to bring this team to the next level. We are so close. And I just cant watch Cardinal throw it away
This is the most bizzare decision i have seen from a football club ever. Even from a money point of view this makes no sense their is literally no reason to sack Maldini.
Oooo man, you’re so right I support Milan since the day I was born, 37 years ago, we have seen ups and downs, but I never seen anything like this. Absolute non sense
Good job man. Maldini got us here and now Gerry . A man who I have heard say ‘I will never buy a big club like Chelsea , the model is a club that belongs in 6th to 11th’ has done this. We are ruined.
This is so disappointing 😞 and cardinale is stingy. He thinks a 50 million budget is enough for the summer transfer window, he obviously didnt learn anything from last year. The club is never going to move forward with that tiny budget. Liverpool also have the same problems with their owners unwilling to spend money in the transfer market.
@Jeffrey Wong Elliot management should have sold the club to that company from Qatar. Companies from Qatar like to spend money on their clubs and aren't stingy, just look at man city and PSG.
I'm heartbroken... today I feel like banter era is dawning on us once again. Why buy a club with such a rich history if you have no objective of fighting for trophies??
@@footballkush well you can't fight for trophies if you fire an influential figure and the first mercato he did nothing maybe that's why Maldini was hesitant to sign last year??
@@retrogene1994 You can to be honest but you have to rebuild the whole club from scratch with a new director and project. But Milan can still win trophies without Maldini but it will take some years to rebuild now that he is gone.
“The Greeks had considered hope the final evil in Pandora’s box. They also gave us an image of perfect nobility: a human being lovingly doing her duty to another human being despite all threats, and going to her death with pride and courage, not deterred by any hope - Antigone.”
Cardinale had just an EGO problem with Maldini! Maldini will be and was too big to handle for him so he canceled him, I hope the fans cancel the next seasons and that man goes broke.
We need to boycott every match every merchandise everything I’d rather see 70000 empty seats next year in the San siro then cardinale in the owners box
Cardinale has to comment on this STAT. Not Furlani, Not Scaroni. I want to hear the only person who apparently makes the calls explaining his vision to the fans. Italian people can be very litigious; I hope he won’t learn this the hard way.
This is why i never dogged on Pioli or Maldini and Massara…this roster shouldn’t have gotten as far as it did in the champions. Players on the top club’s bench could be starters on our team. Without big signings we’ll never make the jump. Gerry’s favorite movie is moneyball so that says everything.
This is bad my friend! It looks cardinale does not want wins, it wants more value for his club just finishing in the first 4th in the league. Slow growing, loading good players and fans. So ridiculous
Maybe nobody will read this but I have to say this My thoughts on the situation of the management: I am not against the decision of firing Maldini and Massara from their respective posts. Here's why: when we are to judge Maldini's position as a technical director we must judge him based on his abilities, characteristics, and qualities as a technical director and we must not base our judgment on what he has done as a player. Maldini and Boban's signings in 2019 were masterstrokes. Theo, Bennacer, Leão and Kessié were signed, who are great players right now. Also, the signings of Krunic and Kjær also worked fairly well. He brought Ibra in January 2020, and his arrival transformed the mentality of the Milan squad. He also chose to stick with Pioli instead of getting Ragnick. The next summer he brought Tonali, Kalulu and Tomori which were great signings again. But the 22/23 mercato was a big failure. MM could have signed players like Enzo, Botman, Kolo Muani and Dybala, instead they chose to sign CDK and Origi. Yes the budget given to them was only 50 million but we could have signed Enzo, Botman, Kolo Muani and Dybala for that much. The only good signing they were able to make was Thiaw. The rest are flops or players that are not Milan quality. By January it was clear that we needed a new right winger and the winter mercato was an opportunity to sign a proper right winger, but Maldini refused to do so. Though he was apparently not given any funds by Gerry, he missed out on the signing of Tsygankov who was available for like 4 million and is doing great for Girona right now. Before the Inter match Maldini asked for some signings to make a leap in quality. But, it seems like the Geriatric Cardinale is giving only a 50 million budget, which is embarrassing considering that we made 125 million from the champions league alone this season, and we also qualified for the champions league next season, so that will be another 40 million in the coffers. However in my opinion, Maldini is making the same mistakes as he did last season. It's not hard to understand that spending 15-20 million for RLC is not the right thing to do. I've explained why before. There are/were many quality players available for free like Uribe Ceballos Dahoud, Tielemans, Gundogan, Laimer who are all better than Loftus-cheek. Luckily Real Madrid wants to keep Brahim Díaz, or else Maldini would have wasted another 20-25 million on him. The rumours suggest that Maldini wants to sign Arnautovic for 5-8 million. We have been linked to Arnautovic more than we have been linked to a starting striker. How can MM concentrate on signing a third choice striker more than signing a first choice striker? If we make these signings that will 45 million gone right there, with no starting quality players signed. Yes the 50 million budget is quite low but when you think about it, it's not even that bad, it's actually more than enough. We can sign Berardi for 25 million, Scamacca or Thuram on loan or for free respectively, and Fofana for 25 million. Those are three starters signed for 50 million. And when we add in another 20-25 million that I expect to get from sales(Origi, Messias, Ballo, Rebic, perhaps even Pobega), we will have a 75 million budget. Which is more than enough. But if we think that we need a larger budget, we will have to make a big sale. But think about this, Tomori is English so by selling him to some prem club we can get at least 50 million. We can replace him with Danso who will probably cost 25-30 million. That will give us an additional 20-30 million to spend. That will be a 100 million budget. But Maldini would have never done that. In my opinion Maldini is too emotionally attached to the players, and a little too stubborn to realise when he makes a mistake in the mercato(I think that he said something like that when enquired about the January mercato). With a new technical director who is more cynical, and less emotional, we can sell CDK or/and Tomori and we can further increase our budget. Perhaps I'll post a few more squads each with different sets of players within the the 50 million budget, to show that we don't need a 70 million budget to have a great mercato. But, Maldini does a good job at attracting players, he was the reason Theo joined and Leão renewed his contract. He is also good at negotiating, and was able to get many loan deals done on mostly favourable terms. But pertaining to choosing players, Maldini is quite hit or miss to be honest. Apparently Moncada is going to be given a higher position, which I am content with. Maldini was instrumental in dragging us out of the banter era, but in my opinion we can do better, and we need to think with our brain and not our heart. Please don't curse me in the comments but I am actually happy that Maldini and Massara are no longer our directors, and that Moncada is going to get more power. However, I wanted Maldini to stay as an ambassador of sorts, because of his ability to attract players, or have a position which allows him to negotiate. I am okay with this move as long as: • We can somehow convince players like Leão, Theo and Maignan to stay (who apparently joined because of Maldini) • Gerry allows us to offer at least slightly higher salaries. • Gerry allows us to make big signings as long as we make big sales(we don't exceed the original budget) But yeah the manner in which Gerry fired Maldini and Massara after everything they've done, was very disrespectful.
I thought Gerry understood the assignment. He said RedBird has the responsiblity to keep Milan at its highest level. He said he wants to win and will do anything for Milan to win. Whatever he's cooking right now, it better be worth it because he destroyed what Maldini has built over the past several years in one night. What I'm fearing the most is that when Gerry decides he wants to make Milan "profitable" and starts selling the most valuable players like Leao, Theo, Mike to expedite the statdium construction, and then sell off the club to the highest bidder. I personally don't like "oil money rich" clubs climbing the ladder to success, and I thought Milan was slowly recovering without support from rich owners, the correct way. I guess we were better off with rich owners as per the success of New Castle.
Thank you Maldini . Thank you Ibra.. If you ask me where milan will be in before Maldini joined the club, Probably I would say fighting for europa league ... Now we are UCL semi finalists... Don't know what future milan will have after this 😢😢
While Zlatan was open to negociating contract only a month or so ago, this news made me feel that it might be related to why he decided to retire, I don't think Maldini didn't know.
I never knew I'd be so pissed off at sports news. Never knew I'd be near tears and the last thing I'd expect it to be was for Milan firing il Capitano. Still couldn't wrap my head around this when I learnt of this on the local radio this morning. I'd be rooting for Inter for the first time this CL Final and the coming season for the first time in 25 years. That's how angry I got. Forza Paolo
Kush, i told u so. I have been saying to u in this comment section that Gerry cardinale is planning to fire massara and Maldini when he made that shocking comment on the day of UCL semi-final against inter. What a self-centered and arrogant man! This man got AC Milan their freaking serie a title for the first time after 10 years. Damn you elliot management for leaving ac milan in the hands of gerry cardinale. These players including rafael leao re signed the contract believing in the project that Maldini and massara is building. Now, i don't know whether those players will remain in the club. This man was about to bring kamada and ruben Loftus cheek, then gerry pull this backstabbing move. Gerry cardinale came into the ownership of the club for 1 year and after which this is assessment. It ia cardinale fault that milan didn't win serie a, coppa Italia and reaching UCL final. Maldini was saying that he needs investment to take the club next level and what cardinale does he puts the blame for all milan failure on him, when it was otherwise indirectly. I am just heartbroken kush, i feel kicking something that how angry i feel. Cardinale destroyed whatever Maldini built in AC mi lan. Who is he? Does he even know who maldini is? Does he even know that ac milan is the second most successful team in UCL? I have been saying but kush u didn't believe me that Gerry cardinale is thr guilty party for Milan failure.
I can’t even describe the anger I feel towards Cardinale, my only wish is to see him out of the club asp, until then I won’t watch a single game, and I haven’t missed one in the past 20 years. It’s sad, it breaks my heart! I hate you Cardinale!
This is just a good reason for the fans to not hold back in demanding improvements that was promised. Enough of grievances, we shall support the squad all out, we are the true owners of the club, if Gerry & Elliot doesn't deliver then their the ones heading out the exit door this time.
Paolo was my idol as a kid in the 90s, and furthermore the Maldini family is Milan through generations. This is so disrespectfull. I really hope Curva Sud and all other Milan fans dont back this management 🙄 Its sad to see them destroying what have been build up for the last couple of years
One good thing that may happen is the departure of Pioli. I like the guy as a person but he's hit a skill ceiling as a coach. Great midtable team coach, but I can't see him as any more than that.
This is the craziest 2 months of football for me zlatan retired, maldini getting sacked, benzema and Kante leaving to the camel league and now messi coming here to America
The logic behind this? RedBird thinks they can "moneyball" football, i.e. build teams based on data. They might be right but I think this will turn out like Totti being pushed out at Roma.
Seems like they were just waiting on Leao’s extension, very painful to watch as a Milanista. This is the point where many fans are re- evaluating switching allegiances to another club. Very sad day in Milan, like when they decided to let Pirlo go and Juve won the Scudetto right after.
It's amazing that in the best season Italian sides have had in Europe in decades Juventus has no board and want to fire there coach league winner Napoli just lost there coach Milan may need a coach and directors and romas Mourinho is potentially facing a serious ban
After buying the club…he was surprised to learn we had 7 CL titles 🤦🏻♂️ Maldini literally said that we need investment countless times…why would Redbird ever doubt his word? Paolo is Milan to the back bone. Wouldn’t be surprised if our top players have already thought about their escape plan.
Maldini is the heart of the club. He spent his whole career there!! He shows what you is missing in football, loyalty and respect for the Jersey! DO NOT POINT FINGERS AT PIOLI! He worked very well with what he had 😡
Cardinale is just like any other businessman. He has no connection to the club's history or the legends or the current players. He doesn't want to invest enough for the club to buy some influential players. As Ibra is out and a few more will leave, the club has to buy good players. I don't know why but Cardinale was never even involved in this project.
When Cardinale sent Furlani to Milan. I smelled there is something going to happen. Once again, I am not buying anything from Milanstore until Red bird out. Being 27 years of Rossoneri, I will yell to Cardinale until he leave. No matter Club win or lose next season. Disrespect to Maldini is not acceptable. From Toronto
This is so nauseating for me. First i was sad that ibra was retiring then i was excited at the thought of next season milan were going go do better and now i just feel so sick with gerry.he needs to sell the club.
Just for the sake of calming myself down...I'll try to justify this horrible and brutal dismissal. We DID NOT have a stirker, Maldini brought the injured Origi... We DID NOT have a back up goal keeper...He did nothing We DID not have a Kessie replacement..He renewed with Messias We DID not have a classy RW, he bought Diaz (A loanee) a backup player (CDK) as a long term investment... We DID not have a decent LB, he brough Dest who did not work. Made Calabria look good 🫤 We DID not have a decent backup for Theo, and we still don't have it. Now, budget was a problem but not buying at all makes more sense than wrong prioritization of a small budget. Inter had Latura & Dzeko but still booked Lukaku. Look how that turned out? Not to mention their work on MF and defence. Same goes for Roma, Lazio and Napoli. I love Maldini like a GOD. But If I'm being realistic, he was not a player, he was a TD, and talked as an outsider. For business, you can't be like that. Esp. when you've had your mistakes. What Maldini said to tives before Semifinal, are said in a meeting with boss & colleagues. o, Let's see how Cardinale will play on his own. We are Milan fans. We've seen worse days. We can wait a couple more months. If their vission doesn't not match ours, then, I for one will move on and stop waiting my time on a banter team.
The failures with Origi and CDK fall more on Pioli. He is playing the team according to the players he has. His only plan is to depend on Leao and put crosses for Giroud. Did you see anytime, Milan breaking the defense line with quick passes or good movements of the attackers? Origi is not a good passer or header, but he is strong and can finish well. I see him receiving the ball far away from the goal and trying to dribble passed 3-4 defenders. CDK has good vision, he showed it in a few games, but he needs time to adjust to a new league and culture. Dest was a last-minute buy with Florenzi being injured. The long renewal caused losing Botman and Sanchez. Seeing how Botman is playing you can understand how big of a miss that was. Sanchez chose to play for a big team rather than develop himself. With less money he went for Vrancx, I personally think he will be a superstar in the future. Also, for team spirit, you can not just start selling players like FIFA. Just think how the team was before he took over and how it is now. The management trusted the players they had and tried the best out of them. Just think how players develop over these few years. Messias scored some important goals in the previous season. So, they rewarded him by renewing. Tata contributed last year although that dude is not up to that level. You are talking about the Inter project. Their owners spend all the money being close to bankruptcy if you do not see the news. They will need to sell again this summer even after reaching the final.
