It’s a tough comparison and no one really knows cause it in large parts comes down to intangibles like how much manoeuvrability and high modes impact results relative straight vmg and wether you’re talking about match racing or fleet racing. I’m super unconfident in this I’m just throwing an answer out there but I think ac40s have slightly more manoeuvrability than F50s but less vmg, and I would guess ac75s have too much vmg to lose often to an f50. F50s as a class rule allow for more variation in sail area and other elements of boat setup to accommodate a bigger wind range though so at the upper and lower end of the wind range I can see that changing

For example in super light wind f50s still race non foiling flying a hull and they would trounce an AC boat in that mode

@@rydenkaye9735Yes, I think so, because they would have about one third of the wetted surface area.

The rigid wings that the SailGP boats use is a massive advantage over the conventional sails that the AC boats use. I would also guess that the catamarans are proportionally lighter as they don't have ballast and the foil canting system. This version of the America's cup rule made several sacrifices to performance in order to preserve some of the tradition and aesthetics of the cup.

@@smammy16700 the F50 wings are not a /massive/ advantage, they're really just a different way to skin the cat.

Exactly the same as the AC40. You get the basic TWS , TWD, TWA, AWS, AWA. Then you get course information such as boundary and marks plus predicted laylines. You can also see other boats on the tactical app

@@MozzySails​​⁠​⁠ What about the LiDAR wind visualiser? That might be the first instance in which the audience has more information than the sailors. How accurate is it? Also, does the tactical app show sailors right-of-way predictions? Like if they’re clear to cross in port?

@@jameslittlewood7821 I believe official AC commentators mentioned several times that sailors don't have this wind map that we see on broadcasts.

Sail GP is pretty close, I think they might have a digital display of the boundaries and stuff on board, but it's mostly done by eyeballs. And as pointed out in the thread above, it's a little bit of a toss up as to which is faster overall.

True wind angle was about 130 and apparent with about 15-20

@@MozzySails Thanks for your response. It’s amazing how these boats always are trimmed so tight. They always look like they’re sailing upwind. I’m not sure I understand your answer. I thought there would be a larger difference going down wind.

@@marioslider6337 Aus does have both Youth and Women's teams for these AC40-based series coming up. Could conceivably be a stepping stone to a full blown effort??

@@weatheranddarkness love to see them back in it. I stayed up watching Australia 11 get the greatest win in modern AC history. Think the whole country did as well.
