Wow that's awesome, especially since it finally worked after consistently trying again and again only to be met with failure. Determination definitely pays off. This is also one of the few recordings out there that look really good on a gloomy, rainy day. Great job!
I gotta say that is amazing! I like how it's mossy and it's raining with cool tree landscape in the background. That thing has been standing strong all those years since it was installed.
I'm glad you finally got this. as much as we joke about it, this is one of your best videos. The sounds, the backdrop, the foamage from that thing. I'm imagining your OH face as being similar to mine in Harrodsburg. Congrats bud!
It was awesome to meet up with you again and it was so cool to finally hear one of these! I love how you Alertronic graphic fades away to reveal a functioning Alertronic, great video!
Really late to the party on this, but your efforts to successfully record an Alertronic paid off in more ways than one, Christian. Not only did you get the first video an Oak Ridge Alertronic, but you also got video of what is possibly the first known single tone AL-6000R running on the original controls!
Denison, TX had these sirens I heard them during Tornado warnings a lot and also they replaced them with 2001s recently I don't know if they will still work.
All these time I've heard it, and I would have seen it in action a month prior had the first Wednesday been any day other than July 4th. I'm still honestly bummed about it. At least someone did get footage of it. Hopefully the stars align when I get down there again.
This was one of the most satisfying videos I've watched in a long time. Knowing how far you've come with your channel and trying and trying and trying to record this and finally getting it is a heartwarming feeling. The echoes caused by the hills after the winddown sounded insane. How directional was it? It didn't sound overly directional, though that could be due to the terrain. Great video bud. Congratulations. -JMAN(WiS&S)
@@SirensAndAlarmsOfNorthernIL Sure, but this is the first Alertronic seen with its original "soft-start" controller. A few other dual-tone Alertronic's have been found, but AFAIK this is the first single-tone one that was filmed that didn't get upgraded.
That's dedication and you were well rewarded for it. I'm wondering, which sirens did you visit on your other trips and do you know which others were active? I've heard the whole K25 system is decommissioned now which is a massive shame but I guess I'm just interested in how many they actually kept running. I wonder if they'll remove them or just let them rot. Thanks for this great video!
Honestly, not entirely sure which of the others were active. We have a rough idea but were never able to confirm any other than Poplar Springs. I've seen just about all of them in person though.
@@4J25 Hi thanks for the reply. I've had a look round on google earth as I'm sure many others have and see some that were quite obviously rotating. Can I ask roughly how many you thought were kept operational? I suppose I'm just interested in this system, despite it A: being no longer operational and B: in a completely different country!
If only the remaining Omnidirectional Alertronics were still functional. This one does sound similar to the one video of one of the Omni models. Same/similar controller I would assume?
It this one of the early models? I heard the early models had the chains for their rotator box and then later on they decided to add collecter rings instead of chains.
Many of those sirens around that area have been abandoned they should be refurbished an moved to areas of the state that need warning sirens the ones that still work just sound terrible
