Congratulations🎉Dear Jessica on getting your job. I am so happy for you and you have been such an inspiration for me. Especially during the times that I felt uncertain about things in my PhD. But I am glad that you took us through your journey and gave something to look forward to. Best wishes for a new chapter of your's Jessica ❤️ Lot's of love and respect to you.
Oh Jessica so happy for you! I actually dropped out fro. my PhD in september as it was not what I wanted to do and I have been facing a terrible job searching period. I hope it will end up soon.Hopefully I will enter as a trainee soon in a pharmaceutical company. Let's see how it goes! I have gone through the process of interviews and everything several times and it's quite exhausting but you get used to it also! So let's see how it goes! Looking forward to follow that chapter in your life!
Thank you so much!! Good for you for realising that the PhD wasn’t for you and taking the right move and dropping out. It’s a very brave thing to do! Good luck with your job search - I really hope you manage to find something soon 🙏🏻
Thank you so much! It’s only three weeks until I hand in which is really exciting 🤩🤩 I’m not sure yet… I will need to see how the company feels about it but I don’t think I will ask until I have settled in a little. I will try to keep up with helpful PhD/study related content in the meantime, even if it isn’t lab vlogs :)
For a PhD you will choose a supervisor in an area of research that interests you. It is good if you can get experience during undergraduate studies doing research projects so you can see which areas you are interested in. Sometimes labs also let you do internships over the summer or mini summer projects to get some experience :)
@@drjessicagomezb I'm doing masters in inorganique material chemistry and I'm interested if you have any recommendations in papers I can get inspirations from
Dr Jessica you kept us going the past 2 years! Wow! I went through my MSc thesis thanks to you. Congratulations on getting the job! All the best in your Thesis Defence!
Awww Michael that is very kind! I’m so so glad I could help you through your journey in some way :-) thank you very much, I’m very excited to start my new venture!
Hi! How did you explain to the company that you are finishing your PhD and would not be able to start until after you finish? Was the company pretty understanding? Did you include your situation of completing your PhD before working in your cover letter? Thank you!
Hey! I mentioned at the beginning of my cover letter and in the ‘summary/about me’ section at the top of my CV that I am a final year PhD student due to hand in my thesis by the end of February. Thankfully they respected my thesis hand in date and let me start a week later! In my interview I also asked how urgently they would need someone to start and they mentioned that they could wait a little while for someone if needed but not too long. I think in most cases if a company like a person then they will often be happy to wait! :)
I have a bursary. Monthly payments to cover my cost of living and also funds for the chemicals and things I need for the lab, publishing papers and going to conferences
