I have only seen four of his films, but every single one of them is an exceptional masterpiece. PTA is a genius, and I'm looking forward to Inherent Vice!! :D
Should have won best film and 2 best actors performances. One of the best films of this century and for me it's the best film of PTA to date. Beautiful, complex, free and unlike anything, like Kubrick made films, not giving a **** about oscars really.
Kubrick made wholesome movies and were technically and narratively way advanced and different from his colleagues, most importantly his films had narrative strength. PTA is nowhere near Kubrick. All his films rely on the actors' capacity. Kubrick never needed a great actor.
@@DC-zi6se absolutely disagree. PTA literally learned from Kubrick who invited him to the set of Eyes Wide Shut. Kubrick respected a young PTA and wanted to meet him which was very rare for him to bring in an outsider to his set.
Wow! Only 16 prints. It shoouldn't be that way. I was lucky enough to see it on 70mm at The Aero in August. Really beautiful print and a great film. I still find myself thinking about it.
The only oscar Kubrick ever won was for special effects for 2001. oscars don't mean shit. edit: except for parasite winning best picture. that was legit.
The characters he creates are extremely complex, must be somewhat personal, a lengthy commitment that must take a toll. He never expresses an attitude that is “me, me, me.” Always gracious. But it is his life that gets weary. For the intensity of the creating, writing, directing process, he looks good.
Despite being in his early 40's, he looks like he's in his middle 50's. Anyway... really looking forward to seeing "The Master". Joaquin's performance in the trailer really left me speechless.
Considering it's not a typical Hollywood standard screenplay or story, I never believed it would get even a nomination, and it of course it hasn't. I have no idea why everybody thought the Academy would consider it.
