That is a hell of a hike , plus getting up in the morning for the summit hike. We did it in March, cold and windy, but with a great group and so much fun.

Wow great video and seeing the volcano erupting WOW. We’re the eruptions very loud? It looked like Lincoln had a great time. He is looking great. Thanks for taking us along on your great adventure.
@Everlanders
@Everlanders 2 года назад
Yes, it was as loud as thunder, and with the big rocks rolling down the hill it sounded like the grumbling after a lightning strike. The whole experience was a lot like thunder, very loud, but we never caught the actual start of the eruption on camera...

Thanks for letting me relive this through your eyes. I did this in March of 2020 about a week or two before pandemic shutdowns. It was truly one of the most amazing things I've ever done and yes, an extremely challenging hike up (and down). Good job!
@Everlanders
@Everlanders 2 года назад
I was at the back of the pack right out of the gate and felt pretty unprepared, but soon the tight bodies at the front began to slow down too, then we all slogged on together... 🌋

@@Everlanders We hiked up in clouds and wind pretty much the entire way up. Better than too hot though! For an old fart I held my own pretty well. Did the summit hike the next morning which was really not easy with the steep very loose soil but so worth it! If you get a chance, go stay at Pasajcap. Very Beautiful (but pretty much everything is around there) and very nice grounds (if you do, say hi to Pierre for me (Felipe)). That's where I was lucky enough to get stranded for about 6 weeks when COVID lockdown hit. ENJOY!

Really cool you guys got up there. Seen others do it and the weather was not with them. I don't know I could do that climb anymore but there was a time. Going up was tough but going down can really hammer your knees and ankles. Fun video, thanks for sharing the experience.

Did you get the sound recorded from the eruption or could you hear if from there? How long did the sound take to get to you? Fabulous video!
@Everlanders
@Everlanders 2 года назад
The eruptions were spaced about 30 minutes apart most times, and we often missed recording the beginning when the sound was loudest. We could certainly hear it and feel it, very much like thunder. The basecamp was 3000m away (As the crow flies) from where we were, so science says it would have been a 9.09 second delay.

At 00:22, everyone has their (half) cross to bear... The evening shots remind me of Canada Day around the 11:00 finale. Nice! Did they come with audible booms?
@Everlanders
@Everlanders 2 года назад
Yes! As loud as a nearby lightning strike and Thunder... The sound was delayed 9 seconds so if you weren't watching you'd miss it.

Thank you for all the great videos!I plan on driving the full length of the Pan-American Highway in a Tesla Cybertruck with a 25 foot Airstream tow. I will start from Deadhorse, Prudhoe Bay, Alaska and finish in Ushuaia, Argentina. So I was wondering on your trip do you use any type of emergency backup communication such as HAM, CB, GMRS? Trying to figure out which service will work best for US, Canada, Mexico, South America.
@Everlanders
@Everlanders 2 года назад
There's better cell coverage than in the US, we don't use or know anyone using HAM.

That being said, most people don't make it much further than Chiapas with a travel trailer. The roads get pretty narrow and sharp corners in towns. Further, I realize you won't be getting this truck for a while, but still I should mention that the grid gets pretty weak down here, the voltage drops to the mid nineties under load and costs the owner 40 to 50 cents per kWh, so finding an outlet that I can get 600 watts from is a challenge. Further charging our comparatively small 11.5kWH battery could take days because of rolling outages...

How long was it in total? Wendy and I did Gourd Lake 12 years ago...6 miles up and the last 1.5 is switch-backs STRAIGHT up...a psychological challenge as well as a physical one as you feel like it's going on FOREVER! Very cool and beautiful! Good job guys! Not sure I'd get that close (headlamp guys)...I think it was Pliny the Elder who died when gases rolled down a Volcano he was studying/climbing. :) Great vid!
