Acceleracers is beyond deep, and more than just a show to sell toys. Back in a time when kids weren’t idiots and treated like dolts...

I always thought that Kadeem's death was related to what Haziz told him in World Race. Especially when Haziz says "Our people need not what is yours, but you. They need you to lead them". Kadeem failed to protect his people by continuing on the road he traveled. I also have reason to believe that not the false wheel, but the Racing Drones where what Haziz was referring to as "The Greatest Danger". Haziz also says to Kadeem "That is the greatest danger, to see only what you want to see, and not what is true." I think what Kadeem wanted to see was that fighting the Drones was a greater priority than returning home to his people. He even says in Acceleracers "My people will have to wait, because this cannot". I think that Haziz was trying to warn Kadeem of the Drones in attempt to lead him from the Dangerous Road, to go back home. But unfortunately for Kadeem, he failed to see what Haziz told him.

The comeback starts now! In all seriousness, Kadeem’s “death” is like many things about the show, more than meets the eye. Based on the action figures in San Diego Comic-con 2005, season two would’ve had Kadeem come back as the new leader of the Drones.

I never thought of Kadeem's death in that sense. He was the sole thing holding together the Teku and Metal Maniacs and without him they had to learn in his footsteps

The most disturbing part of the whole series is when we learn what happened to the other world race drivers

Kadeem's transformation is extremely dark if you think about it. Just think of what he had to go through in order to go from human to machine. Kadeem's stomach was opened and replaced with wires. The internal organs were probably gotten rid of. His eyes were somehow turned green or something. He has wires coming from his heart and then the drone symbol in his head. Then his arm and both legs were replaced with drone parts. It's awful to just imagine what he went through

When I first watched and witnessed Kadeem’s death as a kid, it really caught me by surprise. Even after coming back as a drone, I knew he wasn’t going to truly return. This series was one of the things in my childhood that opened me up to more interesting and real themes. What’s funny is that I didn’t expect my brother and I to go through a similar experience like between Kurt and Wylde. Getting on fighting terms, yet we both watched and loved Hot Wheels. This series is really underrated, and it’s story and characters are inspiring to many who loved it. Thanks for keeping the series alive. 👍

The only thing to make things better and bring everything full circle is the 5th and 6th movies

I was terrified of drone Kadeem as a kid

I think his death was also a good transition pice between the Acceleracers characters and the World Race. While most of them participated in it, it only gets mentioned in the first episode as the prequel but the conflicts and deeper story only impact Acceleracrs here and there (like the callback of Kurt being her ally). So bringing him into it as the old World Race character while everyone else had transformed into their Acceleracers version was a good transition. Also it served as a first example of how dangerous the realm are. Again connecting the other WR characters that all got lost already to the new accelerators that now have the very real fear of also not making it to the end.

So glad seeing more Acceleracers content these days. Kadeem is by far the best character in the series because of his story arc and inspirational message in the World Race #RememberKadeem

Super late comment, but I would like to add that Kadeem's death was a super integral moment for Vert as well. Throughout the rest of the entire series Vert only actually finishes what, like four races? Aside from his race against Gelorum of course. Watching Kadeem fall to his demise clearly had a huge impact on Vert to the point where any failure in a race made him legitimately depressed. A trait he did not have during the World Race. Vert became so obsessed with winning after he failed to save Kadeem that it lead to him making most of the mistakes that he did. Which is an incredibly human response to grief.

I find it interesting that the demise of Kadeem is followed immediately by the destruction of the Deora II and Slingshot. It's like the creators of Acceleracers were trying to show symbolically that the old Hot Wheels (Highway 35) was dead and something new was beginning.

I like the artstyle of Wheel of Fire more (seriously what is _with_ Taro's redesign in acceleracers) but I like Acceleracers more overall, just cause it's just a much better-constructed story. You nailed down a lot of what makes it better - there's actual stakes, a villain, and these characters can lose or get _hurt_.

Damn dude, good as heck video! I always thought Kadeem's death was very interesting, it was like a message. The best part of this video was the difference between Vert and Kadeem in World Race. This made me realize alot of things, Kadeem didn't have time to mess around and participate in team disputes. He wants to help his people, but he has priorities. If he doesn't stop the Racing Drones, it'll mean everyone in the world will suffer. By the time Acceleracers has occurred, we know that Dr. Tezla has made a team with other drivers (dan dresdan, alec wood, and banjee castillo) And that when our main characters got to Tezla's Cube... Kadeem was the only one. This is implying Kadeem must have seen so many things happen to his fellow team, Tezla's team was probably much more friendly than say the Teku and Metal Maniacs. Kadeem has seen so many of his friends be lost in the realms or possibly die, that he knew when the main character drivers appeared... he wanted to prevent anything else. This is where it gets unfair for Kadeem. What he saw was 2 teams still arguing and having conflicts despite the drones being a much bigger havoc. He knew he didn't have time to mess around, and seeing his friends STILL argue with each other was probably hard on him. I can theorize that this is probably why he acted as the "leader." of Ignition. Kadeem wanted everyone to be on the same boat, and help everyone get together through the realm. If you compare the Storm and Swamp realm, they really didn't argue often (or possibly even once) at the Storm realm.. then you have the Swamp Realm where there's several exchanges between both teams. When Kadeem was lost in the Storm Realm, the situation got possibly worse. They still argued and it's possible that Vert was the only one who truly understood. (Hence why he kept talking about Kadeem, though Taro and Lani talked about him at Speed of Silence) Vert wanted to help his friend, Kadeem was *one* the reason of how Vert learned not to care JUST for himself. But enough about Vert, that's for another day lol It's really a shame how dirty they did Kadeem, but it wasn't bad writing at all. It helps show how serious the situation is perfectly. And as the movies progress, the drivers mature enough to realize to settle their differences and be stronger. That's pretty much what I think, sorry for rambling but I really liked this video. (I do think the Microphone quality was really quiet and mumbly though which sucks) Can't wait for more, man!

Great video, great art in the thumbnail and great explanation. And yes, acceleracers was dark. I still vividly remember the German dub I watched when I was 4 years old. In the German dub porkchop didn't watch his father drown, his father tried to drown him in a bathtub, then the "I took a bath, once" quote following it up. That impacted me so much as that's what made me realise how evil the world was actualy. There isn't a man dressed in black who will kidnap you if you don't listen to your parents. The real man dressed in black isn't some monster stranger, the monster could be anyone. That's what made me remember acceleracers and Rewatch it only to join the Fandom and enjoy your videos now. Well that quote and the gorgeousness of the water realm and metro realm. Great video my friend, keep it up

Kadeem was always one of my favorite racers growing up. I was shocked when he fell and they didn’t save him. But then we saw him again as a drone, I felt sadness that he had so much going for him and they took it away. But honest to GOD I’m so glad how *real* that show was! No cartoons are like that today! That’s, why I’ll always love Acceleracers.

It’s crazy how dark and oddly complex the story line of this series was. A honestly watchable thing. Cheesy at times? Of course but it’s part of it.

I'm personally just sad that he was the ultimate selfless character, and yet he got killed

Kadeem's death and transformation, along with Kerrigan's infestation in the original Starcraft, were the primary catalysts that made "forced transformation" my biggest fear as a kid and even now as an adult.

When you began with the Walking dead I got confused as hell

Like if it hurts every single time Kadeeem dies each time we rewatch Acceleracers. I always hope he wont, even though I know it will happen :(

10:19 Yeah, Kadeem's "death" was incredibly unsettling/shocking for my younger self when viewed for the first time. So unsettling in fact that my mother actually felt compelled to watch the series with me so I could enjoy it without feeling scared. In the end we both ended up finding a series we enjoyed watching...Until I saw Racing Drone Kadeem....Nightmares for weeks... 11:35 Although it didn't hurt me as much as every time I witnessed a car getting destroyed (especially the Deora II, a car/truck which I practically hero worshiped as a kid).

As a kid Banjee, Alec, Dan, and Kadeem being dead hit me really hard. It still does. These had way more heart than they needed too.

I just realized the teku logo is uses the Japanese characters for pronouncing te and ku, テク respectively.They’re just mashed together, and boom, logo.

FIRST: WOOOHOO YOUR BACK BABY Second: Love these points, in fact, a lot of the conclusions of the themes of World Race and Acceleracers are the one's I came up with in my script for Vert Wheeler (essay yet to be released). So as much as I don't like it, especially since the big question is, "Did he ever save his people?" always comes up. I don't think I had a problem with it in the thematic storytelling but definetly in the lore story telling. Third: (really off topic) wait, big brain time, what if, Kadeem's city that he lived in, is a secret Silencerz base. Which means they get food and stuff, and gives a reason for Kadeem to still be evil in a new movie.......... yeah nvm

Kadeem's death is sure on top 10 saddest anime death, but it really set the tone for the series, beside it i believe in theory thats 5yh and 6th will reveal banjee and other drivers as silencerz, and kadeem still alive and lead the drones, but in the end kadeem come back as human with the help of accelerons This is my opinion and hallucinations anyway

Seeing his death as a kid and transformation into a racing drone was such a Woah moment growing up, and with the dark themes of pain, stress,fear, regret, and etc it made me realize that world isn't all rainbows and sunshine all time. There's times where there is storms too. So for that reason I'm glad they did what they did because it show what life is like in reality with nothing sugarcoating it. I think something else I would love to have seen besides a acceleration 5 is a prequel to it that took place after the world race. I would to love to see what happens to the original crew and what lead them where they are, how vert and Kurt join the teku, how nolo's brother tone was like, the story of what happened between Marky and Kurt as well. That would have been a great spin off title to watch!

He’s back!

My theory is that, judging from the eye twitch the first time we the viewers see cyborg!Kadeem, and well as Kadeem still remembering some parts of who he was before (such as remembering some of his former friends), it's possible that his old personality as a human is struggling against the new personality from the Drones' cybernetics. A sort of cybernetic Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, if you will.

I thought Kadeems death was to cause drama between everyone as they were sad and wished they could of saved kadeem but this was a very good explanation about why they killed off Kadeem

Watching it as an eight year old really shook me. The one thing that still leaves me wondering is how the Drones extracted him from the storm realm. Like the dude just fell into a bottomless pit.

You had a very detailed analysis which deserves more recognition and credibility. the world race in acceleracers was my childhood and the more you analyze the series the the more you realize how great these movies were. Wish they would continue the series. In fact there is a change.org petition on this but we'll see what happens in the future. God Bless

When Kadeem was killed off, I actually noticed the change in the dynamics between the two teams. They suddenly lost coordination and I immediately thought, maybe Kadeem shouldn’t have been killed. This was 6 year old me thinking this.

The funny thing is that when I first watched Acceleracers way back, I only had access to the storyline up to Speed of Silence, so it wouldn't be after like 15 years that I learned Kadeem even survived (and yes, I know he technically "appeared" at the end of SoS, but I was too young back then, that could be anyone).

Me being the big brain individual I am, I always thought it was No loaf, not Nolo af. As you can tell, my sub-par intellect is on about the same level as that of a rock.

Another reason I think Kadeems death is so great is not only because it was foreshadowed (unintentionally) in world race. But also because it let's you know that no one is safe. A character like Kadeem, who was seemingly a main character got killed off in the first realm we see. Really great way of increasing tension

Kadeem's transformation and death really was stupid. We couldn't tell if it was really Kadeem talking or his Drone self.

I feel like Kadeem’s death also played into other aspects of the story. For instance: When Tesla is introducing the EDR, Taro asks “Imagine if Kadeem had an EDR, remember Kadeem?” This hints at things: One, Tesla only cares about the accelchargers and two, Taro feels guilty that he left Kadeem to die.

You know the perfectl line to say back to taro at this moment would’ve been Vert: yea Teku wouldn’t have helped a Metal Maniac but a wave ripper would’ve helped a scorcher...

If AcceleRacers were to ever come back, I would love to see Kadeem being the main villain who succeeds Gelorum and the Racing Drones

OH YEAH ACCELERACERS TIME

it's kind of sad for kadeem to end up as a racing drone due to his relation with Vert and his responsibilities to his own people. Hell if it were Vert who was up front with Kadeem he probably would've tried to help, since they did seem to be good friends by the end of the world race.

I found another similarity between HW35 and The Acceleracers films. When racing on the ice track in HW35 the track is cut off so drivers had to go off the track. This is when Dan Dresden deploys the "eye in the sky" to find the best route through the maze of ice. This looks to be almost identical the the recon drones like the ones seen in the swamp realm which also seemed to find the Racing Drones the best route to take throughout the swamp realm. Time stamps for videos: 1:16:40 (HW35) and 44:04 (Ignition). Hope you see this!!!

I like the idea let the durability was toned way down in accelerators as opposed to world race because it shows even further just how much tougher and more dangerous to the drivers as well as their cars but the realms were as opposed to the legs

Acceleracers is the reason I care more about the stories and characters than the visuals in the media I watch.

I always loved the tone that Kadeem's death brought to the series. It felt like the series carried real weight after that.

Man do I miss this series. I wish there was an official game made for it. One where you could race through all the realms with all the cars and characters.

I love the irony of him being lost in the storm realm due to him mentioning in hw35 wr when he was racing banjee that driving in the middle of a sandstorm in the sahara was nothing (yes I wrote the same comment to a diff video, I m just tryna save my find before someone else copies it)

acceleracers is like the trials of apollo where two of the main characters died, or just "hard mode"

Kadeem isn't dead, he'll be rescued and returned to normalcy when the fifth movie comes out.

I think another reason it was wise was it showed that there was risk to their actions, that Taro being pitted against a timer, he wasn't GUARANTEED to make it out, he could have lost to the clock, I mean, his rear bumper got sliced

Brian Kadeem did not die in Acceleracers. He just joined the Racing Drones.

A year late to this video but another very interesting thing i spotted while rewatching these movies is during world race when kadeem is having his talk. He actually tells Kadeem that something very unfortunate will happen to him if he continues to do these races. Possibly a very big foreshadow for his death/transformation.

Holy fuck an in-depth acceleracers video on the cusp of the 2020s

I could see kadeem going over the edge and vert failing to save him and maybe even him dying but when they turned him into a drone, that could've been done without, just like them ripping off Mark's arm and giving him a drone arm simply because kadeem was such a good guy it was really hard to believe they completely wiped away everything that made him, him. If anything what they could've done was hold him prisoner and torture him or just maybe put on a few replacement parts to try to turn him into a drone but he overcomes the brainwashing because it showed he still had his memories namely when he fought Kurt and won and saves everybody possibly by sacrificing himself it would've been better for him to go out a hero than a brainwashed bad guy or better yet gets rescued the same way they rescued Mark

I also loved how kadeem was essential to Verts character conflict which later developed

Holy shit I am so happy so see other people sill like this show as much as me and that there is sill an active community around it. Great analysis btw, I an still saddened about Kadeem's death but I do think like you said it was a necessary evil. My most buring question tho is what happen to the others on Tezla's team? Alex "Hud" Wood, Dan Dresden, and Banjiee Castillo. I like to think they were rescued by the Silencers and started driving for them as it's show that they never really try to hurt the other drivers and in the case of the Neon Pipeline realm will actively seek to help them if they are in trouble.

I honestly thought I was the only one that still talks about World Race and Acceleracers these days, but you sir have proven me wrong. Keep up the good work man.

yeah.... I have to agree with you on that. I think Kadeem's death was the first death I ever saw in a film. This was way before I even was introduced to Pokemon, or heck, even Bakugan... where specific characters do in fact die, or vanish.

Man I'm still surprised people still watch this movie and tv series after all these years... Just shows how much people care for something old or a hidden gem like this

I never watched the last episode and only had ignition for a while so when kadeem "died" for me he actually died..from starvation while falling endlessly and i was like 11 so you can imagine the show has stuck with me even up till 2019
