@@goldenskhull someone actually from Africa. Just because you got ancestry from that region it doesn't make you African. That's like saying I'm northern European when I've never been there. It makes no sense. If I go there I'm not a fellow European I'm a tourist. I ain't saying you can't wear the clothes but that's all it is.
@@goldenskhull someone born and raised most of his life in an african country :))) As Jeremiah say above, race is one thing, but *culture matter* if not more...
@@Ludo045 Culture defines people more than race does, despite the fact that skin colour and perceived race plays a role to bigots in society, which is sad in itself. But to be honest, there is nothing wrong with identifying with ancestry as long it's done out of appreciation for the heritage. Not (for example) like Elizabeth Warren, who used her so-called American Indian ancestry to further her academic career. Another thing... Ask yourself this: If people feel the urge to define themselves using their heritage or race, it kind of means society doesn't have a place for them in the culture (at least that is likely what some people feel). Like Kwanzaa and Christmas. There is a good reason why people felt the urge to celebrate something besides christmas... And there is also a reason for adopting African culture. Whether it's a good sign for social cohesion and an inclusive society is another thing though. If Jesus was historically accurate, maybe African Americans would've never started celebrating Kwanzaa. Who knows...
He actually does have a reason to be mad because now Cairo is forced to accept the reality of life, good friends come and go depending on one circumstances and that he will never find anyone else to replace Huey as a friend and that he will be alone. Life will tear good relationships apart just through circumstance
The whole show is told from Huey's perspective. He probably doesn't actually know any martial arts, it's just an artistic choice to visually portray how he perceives himself when he's winning fights.
Not to mention the fact that he's using it as a excuse to unfairly victim-blame it on huey and everybody else around him just so he can feel like he's the victim and nobody else
@@see949i think they were pointing out that Huey was still conscious when Riley was about to say the infamous line. Granddad and Aunt Cookie looked at him as it obviously wasn't an appropriate time, and technically he didn't really get knocked out, just a cheap shot in the nose.
I know right? Him, Dewey Jenkins and Lamilton Taeshawe are all the worsts friend trio that ever existed on the show and I'm glad that Huey and Riley aren't best buds with either one no more.
Everyone talking about Huey getting hit and losing a friend, and I'm thinking about the long term consequences for Cair. Kid has just fully established in his mind that being successful and wealthy is a terrible thing for a black person to do and will likely waste his life with some proper bullshit "revolutionary" shit with his new friend.
That's a bit of a stretch. The kid is hurt that he lost a friend. He is a child and doesn't know how to react to it. You're reading waay too much into it.
Yes @ariel plaza that's true some black people in my race feel like you still owe them something or you're nothing but a sell out just for gaining more success in life than themselves which they'll try bringing you down.
@@nallasuperssj4547 Being a pick me is not going to get you anywhere. You’re not even black with the way you typed that sentence. It’s the delusion for me.
@@bmwjourdandunngoddess6024 imagine thinking someone not even black for an actual thing that happens couldn't be me telling someone their not the race they are but try again.
The lesson I took from this episode is sometimes there's a reason for every season. Some people are part of your life in the beginning and sadly, there's some people you have to leave behind in order to make room for something more. Huey and Riley have moved beyond the Chicago and unfortunately some people couldn't handle it.
Well said. That's why I always remember what Ecclesiastes said (and the Birds copied later) for everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose. I've always thought that applied to people as well. There are people who are a part of our lives for a season, but they may not be meant to be a part for all time. The best example I can give is I fell in love with a young lady once and before I started seeing her her mother and I were friends. In fact, the young lady, her younger sister and her mother all saved my life when they helped keep me from killing myself when I was in an extremely dark place mentally. Then things fell apart and while I would have loved to have maintained my friendship with her mother and her sister, it just wasn't feasible. I tried, but when she met her future boyfriend (now husband) it just straight up drove me nuts and I had to tell them goodbye and not go back and see them anymore. There are days I still think of them and wonder how they are, but I figure they're better off without me around and just go on about my business. That's my story anyways, sorry if I rambled a bit.
So true some friends are for season life time I relate to this episode so much I had best friend that was light skin look just like hm in a real person we we cool in primary junior then got highschool it just change it hurt me because he was nigga and our friendship was ruin over thing change as we grow up I wanted to fix it in our alut but he not interested so I just let it go just thankful for our past.
@@trevorpotier2336ya but in school darkskins always tryna clown us an put us down but we lite skins the best we can't not be brung down, look even curry a lite skins so that's proof we the best
I love how the SECOND Huey starts fighting Riley's after the other kid. Just like- "FINALLY! _GET THE FUCK BACK HERE, I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS SINCE I FIRST HEARD YOU OPEN YOUR MOUTH-"_ As soon as he realizes Huey's not going to come after him for acting up, anything resembling civil behavior is out the window.
This is a bittersweet episode to me because it really touched on the topic with Grand dad getting older and outliving friends and enemies alike and Robert acknowledges that
Huey and Riley had the right to beat up Cairo and his dumbass friend. Also, it was stupid for Cairo to hold a grudge against Huey for leaving, it was out of his control. Also, who else was pissed when Cairo head-butted Huey with that cheap-shot?
@@deanbrooks7297 ehh not really he shouldve saw that coming after talking about his grandad. Cairo shook huey hand then tried head bumped him that's what you call a sneak.
@@brazyfilmo3121 I hear what you are saying however you still can't fight someone because you didn't like what they said about you, if they aren't throwing their hands and your defending in response then it's a sneak attack imo. Cairo did a eye for an eye, it sucks but it's fair.
"It's better not to forget than be forgiving, because if you have forgotten what happened, then all those memories they've had before were meaningless from the start." The biggest mistake that Granddad and Auntie made was bringing Huey to make peace with Cairo knowing the ramifications that'll transpired later, this result in Huey getting headbutt to the noise, which closed the chapter to their squabble but ended their friendship.
@@Turboman-kx7cc that headbutt didn’t end their friendship, I’d argue that it was over long before Huey got domed by that other kids big ass head. The headbutt was just the icing on the cake lol
The life lesson i got from this episode is that no matter what kind of person you are you are always going to have at least one asshole in life who hates you with all their heart and soul for some reason regardless if its deserved or not. In those cases you just gotta leave those haters as they are and not try to be the "bigger man" and make peace because as they say "haters are going to hate" if they want to enemies then so be it. Cairo may forgive Huey when he older and stops acting like a petty child maybe not but either way its not Heuys problem because he wont have to see him ever again and will find better and more reasonable people to be around to call true friends.
Being the bigger man doesn't mean being foolish. It means doing the right thing with the strength, smarts, and cunning to get through it unscuffed. Offer your basket, take his hand, but be ready to block.
Either Cairo was to stubborn and messed up to have friends that he started hanging out with revolutionist frauds or didn’t want to get his heart broken that he was willing to hate Huey
As a kid I didn’t understand why they were fighting Now that I’m 23 Cairo was wrong He was selfish and only wanted to make himself feel happy He was a bad friend
This one of my those boondocks moments that hits me, because it's truly not Huey's fault he didn't wanna move and while he always missed and continued respecting Cairo, Cairo instead takes it personally. I wanted them to explore more about them visiting home more often. I mean Cairo literally subconsciously got a new bestfriend that's a fake Huey basically.
Time is a bastard, and he estranges even the most stalwart homies. A year away from the people you love can see them becoming people you hate. It's no one's fault, really. It's just Entropy.
When you a kid, it’s all serious but when you grow up and look back, it turns into “who the fuck gives a shit” as you take a drag on a cigarette and go back to whatever you were doing
Ninjas do wrong to each other sometimes; and in that way, the force of the Earth comes around the moon, and at that presence, the dirt overshadows the grass; and so you like 'I can't cut this grass there's no sun coming through'. So, in order to enable each other, the two fruits have to look each other in the eye, and understand that we can only be ripe as the ripe is wrong. You know what I mean?
@@johngalt2336 Who gives a fuck man? Life ain't about pleasing others. If people can't take a joke, fuck em. No point in being around over sensitive bitches. Life is too short for that. I know gay people who don't give a fuck about people using the word "gay" like this. They laugh. You can love life and love people while still making "offensive" jokes.
That's not even how Africans dress. It's how African Americans think Africans dress. Africa is the most diverse continent with thousands of clothing styles, but not one of them is like that.
Cairo failed to understand that Huey moving to Woodcrest was out of their control. This wasn't Huey's fault. Cairo got angry at him and acting like a spoiled brat. Read he has abandonment issues. Will later in life, this will one day be Cairo's undoing. Just like granddad, Cairo will see that Huey will do good in life while Cairo did nothing in life. Holding on this petty grudge wasted his life and he ruined his friendship with Huey. Cairo will realizes his undoing and see this as his downfall.
Riley a real nigga tho, started swinging immediately without even being asked. if he was just a little more mature he would have done the brotherly makes sure no one jumps in power move. but he's got good roots.
I remember my teacher in 12th grade told me people are in your life for 3 categories: A reason, a season, or a lifetime. It’s hard to decipher who’s there for what until life gives you a challenge to find out which category they fall under. & if you real, you not finna have too many people there for a lifetime, just mainly a reason (to teach you a lesson about people or about yourself, like Huey learned when he said “being the bigger person is overrated”.) or a season (You in college, made some good friends, then y’all go off & do y’all own thing individually.).
