People in the comments fighting over their interpretations of what ‘woke’ means instead of listening to what Huey is saying is actually pretty fitting.
I wouldnt even necessarily say Huey is woke. He just isnt as insane as many people. There are times when his views cloud his judgement and things go wrong. I am sure though with age he would be more wiser and act more accordingly.
“Maybe I’m too young to know what the world is supposed to be, but it’s not supposed to be this. It can’t be this.” -Huey Freeman. best quote for todays world
@@mauriceisaac3646 lol! He did more than be miserable. He read and learned.... He also tried to save grandad from a religious film cult and save huey from the candy business. 😂
@@jaquaveonandress649 , the closest people of pure Black black from African tribes are from the Middle East, so if you’re saying in an alternate timeline where colonialisation never occurred in the world at all then that’d mean that every pure black person on Earth would only be Middle Eastern, and there wouldn’t be pure black people not being for Middle Eastern societies, so yes Huey is more accurate in his “critical race theory” than the woke professors in colleges and universities.
@@TERRELL_GASKINS this is another point I make. Huey mentioned the government is lying about 9/11. In the actual news reports it says a passenger plane with people on board crashed. But there’s unedited videos of the plane crashing and it’s not a passenger plane it’s a military plane with no windows for passengers.
Part of what makes Huey charming and humorous as a character is his tendency to overthink, appeal to conspiracy/malice, and scapegoat (in other words be 'woke'), but by the end of the episode realize that more often than not, people are their own worst enemy.
Huey being "based" is largely why he is nearly non existent in the later seasons of the show. The Boondocks was AMAZING, but also sort of depressing. Seeing how unbalanced it became in the later stages and really focusing on Riley, his antics, and more "accessable urban indulgence" is what made the show fizzle out sadly. Still a GREAT show regardless and lightyears ahead of its time. I mean sometimes I feel like it confirmed time travel. ROFL.
This show was a satirical parody of black and pop culture from the point of view of another black man. Instead of putting his own "based" or "woke" opinions (or however you want to describe it idgaf), I'm sure the creator probably wanted the audience to enjoy the satire and make their own critiques without his own bias put upon them.
@@udhenijjar6115 Well not quite. It was a balanced critique of different black and equally fleshed out perspectives. People like Huey, Riley, Grandpa, ect DO all exist across black culture so skew the perspective in any direction is ACTUALLY biased. That's why the later seasons of with more Riley focused episodes weren't as well received as a whole. "Woke" or "based" opinions are always as negative as your tone might suggest.
Huey has always been my favourite character and someone I appeal to as he's someone who's often ignored and not listened to along with have a different mindset to everyone else.
She gets even better, in s3 and expecially ins s4 she finds different characteristics voices for both of them. In s1 and s2 they pretty much sound same but after Huey stops sound like Riley and gets his own voice. She did a great job.
"Your pain is the breaking of the shell that encloses your understanding. It is the bitter potion by which the physician within you heals your sick self. Therefore trust the physician and drink his remedy in silence and tranquility."
Huey is informed, and retains and recites wisdom. Riley is smart, but uses his ability to learn for stupid shit. Riley is also a great communicator. Lisa simpson, Huey freeman, stan marsh are alike. Riley freeman, Bart simpson, eric cartman are alike.
I love Huey and the boondocks for calling out R. Kelly all the way back in 2005 when nobody actually took the sex crimes he committed seriously. People only started to hold him accountable for what he did after the hits dried up, and the series’ creators called out that injustice incredibly well.
These are probably some of my favorite moments of the whole show. Adds some more personal and down to earth moments in a completely wacky, over-exaggerated, and satirical show.
Hueys comprehensive philosophy of certain aspect’s of life whenever he speaks his mind is very fascinating and compelling. His mind is so complex in a way some don’t understand why he sees the world the way he does. The level of complexity His beliefs/perspectives are is what makes him very relatable and interesting even for a kid his age. Gotta give him credit for always keeping it real to help him grow
“Wanna know why because the truth hurts you will never get anything for free and wanna know something else everyone you know and love will die” - Huey moment
The truth hurts jazmine.the world is a hard and lonely place and nobody gets anything for free and you wanna know what else, you and everyone you know is gonna die.
@@goldinthefurnace season 2 was when i started watching the show but season 3 was the funniest to me with the booty warrior and the fried chicken flu and the thugnificent crack episode but i agree about the prophetic part since it did predict a lot of things

@@dandrecollier800 Huey is supposed to be a Marxist, a slight satire of the African Marxists in the 60s during civil rights so he'd 100%be a leftist, he was already
This was not WOKE we uses to call this AWAKE. Being WOKE is just being in delusional FOOL. Now Huey is kinda of Stupid for believing in Socialism but again these things uses to not make you a complete idiots like nowawdays
@@KASHKUR_7.62 Using political names to group people like “democrat” and “republican” are confines to imprison people and make polarizing radical groups put against each other, while the real villains walk all over us.
Imagine being such a smart character and almost every character (outside of the main fam) all set up against him . Like every time he’s spitting hard facts they dismiss him 😭
5:15 - I can actually see Huey and Jazmine being together in the future. No, Huey won’t ever admit any feelings. He would just do it “so Jazmine won’t be misinformed and lied to by damn state”
0:42 - If you listen really closely to the inflection of Huey's voice, you can tell that, yes, he _is_ intimidated by the hardened criminal, but he knows better than to show it.
Huey didn’t have a moment where he wasn’t based This video must be a 90s rapper who didn’t reach the appeal of his contemporaries but is still a notable entry into the history of hip hop, because it’s too short
Being woke back then meant knowing the truth and utilizing it to better yourself and your surroundings, keep that in mind when it comes to Huey in The Boondocks. Being woke now is nothing how it was back when this show was airing
Welp, Imean. Nowaday, some leftist when ''doing their best'' cry, twerk, and trashtalk on tiktok (but they have the role ''they/them'' on discord to think they are fighting for something). But back in the day, there was a 10 yo kids fighting the KKK, trying to break out of prison falsely accused deathrow inmates, whyle being a kung fu pro
Boondocks is a great animation honestly. I still find myself rewatching it. Recently I was rewatching it with KRTradez who claims he was inspired by Riley in his trading hustle
Huey is a seer, and like all seers, he is plagued by people who wish to interpret half-truths and fantasies instead of coming to terms with their inadequate understanding. Most will settle for illusions because only Atlas (and, for a moment, Heracles) could shoulder the weight of the heavens.
Distinguishing reality from the illusions people make for us, and the ones we make for ourselves... Great line. Especially in the digital age, it's getting harder and harder to tell what even is the truth.
@@Eking-su3tr There it is, "At least in today's standards". By the *actual non whitewashed* definition of wokeness Huey would be considered woke. Being woke is when you're aware of what's going on around you. Social injustices, racism, homophobia, transphobia, misogyny, etc. So *yes,* Huey *is* woke. Nowadays however the word has been ruined by wh1t3 p30ple (as racist as that sounds it's the truth), and because the word had lost it's meaning people associate being woke as a bad thing now, when in reality it's a great thing to be woke.
I like the fact that they are always able to write Huey as intelligent, but not perfect. He does have his own conspiracies, quirks, and inaccurate beliefs which makes him funny because you know about 75% of the time he is right, but 25% of the time he is overconfident in what he believes.
Yeah him being *too* brutally honest and blunt to people or having dreams about killing white people and 9/11 conspiracies(Seriously what the fuck is his search history like?)
The trial of R Kelly episode aired in 2005. He didn't get caught up till 2019 he had 14 more years to do whatever he wanted not bothering to learn anything from the first trial and people just let it slide
Riley isn’t dumb, he often is aware of his own ignorance but chooses to indulge in it, all while being aware of the consequences he just wants to be fun
That quote by "kalil kebron? Hebron? Whatever I couldn't quite make out the last name. I love that quote drink the physicians medicine in silence and tranquility(I'm paraphrasing of course)
