When I have a disturbing thought. I pray for the people who actually do what I thought about. This works against the Devil and the thoughts very well!

The more holy you become you will have a wall there! The devil will do anything! Keep going! Ignore it, keep praying! This is how you get to be a saint!

I’ve been going through this for a year, it’s horrible, I hate it, and it’s always in a lustful way, I don’t do anything lustful which is why it confuses me, but every time I always get scared because I think what if they’re my thoughts but I don’t want them and it gets worse and I feel like im adding to it but I would think of that. Then I get scared if it was a mortal sin and I had just confessed, yet I didn’t want that thought, idk what to think atp

I had to give up praying because my intrusive thoughts were so bad ): It kills me because I used to love praying, I still get the impulse to pray all day but I just can’t. I tried for so long to just ignore the thoughts, let them pass, but the more I let the thoughts sit there the more I started to believe they were my own thoughts! No matter how much I knew they were wrong and told myself they were wrong, The thoughts are like a machine gun, leave it going for a while spewing everywhere it’s gonna get a fatal hit eventually. My relationship with God was almost destroyed by these horrible thoughts, now I at least feel like I can breathe and think clearly. But I REALLY miss praying. I miss the intimate connection with Jesus. I feel like He hates me for some reason. I used to always run to Jesus when I needed help with a stressful thing, now asking Him for help *is* the stressful thing. Not having prayer makes me very sad.

Got just gave me such a great grace to get over this, you must trust in his mercy. God knows you better then you know yourself,he knows your heart and your love for him and all that is Holy. These thoughts are from the devil, The lord will never condemn you for thoughts that aren't your own and for thoughts that you don't truly believe. If you refuse to react and trust in Gods knowing of you and your heart, the devil will give up . Much love ❤ Hod bless you ❤

Thanks for sharing and I am really sorry to hear that it has been so tough. I really encourage you to talk to a priest or spiritual director about this if possible, in addition, talking to a professional counselor can really help! There is a lot of healing possible with intrusive thoughts and God is calling you to a relationship with Him rooted in His peace, love, and mercy. Its worth exploring these obstacles and the fears that come up around talking to God!

You might need to pull a Jesus(let the enemy believe that they overcame you and then let God do the work of redeeming you).Let the thoughts take over for a few seconds and then think the truth.Truths are easier to believe than lies, aren't they?It is written, "And ye shall know the truth and the truth shall make you free"(John 8:32).Also, actions speak louder than words. When I let the lying thoughts take over in my mind, it was madness. I couldn't pray. However, sudden peace came to me during those times of giving up, and eventually, the thoughts were conquered.Keeping yourself busy also helps quiet those fiery darts that the devil throws.Unfortunately, the thoughts come and go but we have Jesus on our side don't we? What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us? (Romans 8:31) Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer; (Romans 12:12) Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend (proverbs 27:17) Hope this sharpened your countenance, friend.

I find it hard to distinguish between intrusive thoughts and regretted thoughts that flow from intentional thinking (like jumping onto a train and realising it’s taking you far out than you expected). Isn’t there culpability in the latter? I get these a lot and, with the thoughts I end up regretting, I begin to doubt my sense of self (I feel like a weirdo) and I feel like I’m in mortal sin. I would like your input if you have the time. Thank you.

It is important to recognize the point of intentional thought and where that begins. If an intentional train of thought consistently leads you to dark places then it will help to either not board that train that leads to other trains, or to find the point where your thoughts transition from neutral thoughts to unhealthy ones. I hope that makes sense! A lot of it involves slowing it down, staying present, and observing what you are feeling and what is going through your head! It takes practice and self-patience. God bless!

But for real, how do you know if you have sinned mortally? I get this all the time and I can’t tell. They make me feel so stressed and like I have to give up things I like to punish myself and make things even

@@winnieandlilo6825 No one can ever seemingly answer this question. They always repeat the "3 required things for mortal sin" like that helps at all without ever giving you the ability to actually know for sure whether you've committed or mortal sin or not. I've been Catholic for about two years now, and I've been looking for a way to figure this out since day one, and I'm still nowhere closer to figuring this out than I was when I started.
