This is an eye opener and also makes me sad. Why we all have these insecurities around black hair and black adjacent features breaks my heart. We are literally all beautiful. Kinky coily curly is all precious ❤

I agree. It's unfortunate and very common in our world, but I believe that over time it will continue to get better little by little.

Great discussion! The sisters definitely identify more with Caucasian beauty standards as do many black people, especially black women. It’s amazing how strongly these standards control how we as women, feel about ourselves and how we prefer to show up in the world. I wondered how they would have felt about themselves if they had type 4 hair. It sounded like they would have had a really hard time dealing with that and that makes me feel a little bit sad for them.

I agree that the messaging we receive in this world is very strong. I have heard these types of sentiments even from women with type 2 hair so I think regardless of your hair type “straight hair” tends to be the standard that is pushed on most women and that can cause inner conflict especially in our younger years.

I'm 100% European/Mediterranean, and my hair is 3b/3c. My Mom never knew how to style my hair as a child, so she cut it short. It's weird, but I still feel some type of way because she cut my hair off.

This was nice but all of their textures in the black community is seen as "good hair". But it was a good interview.
@preciousfro
@preciousfro 5 месяцев назад
While the majority of the black community may view them that way, it’s not how they’re viewed by the majority of the white community, and the stories and reflections they shared showed that. @formerlyknownas123….I totally agree..unrelatable. And it reminds me of how the “mixed curly textured” hi-jacked the natural hair movement.
@preciousfro
@preciousfro 5 месяцев назад
@@fashionwithoutlabels the natural hair movement does not only belong to ppl who have my type of 4C hair. It belongs to anyone wishing to embrace their natural hair which includes women with 3C/4A hair like them. I understand that we live in a world where texturism exists, but that doesn’t mean that I’m going to be unwilling to connect with other women. That type of bitterness does not sit right with my spirit, but we’re all at different points in our journey and that includes the ability to empathize with others. Thanks for watching!

I think most of us women just want easy, manageable hair that doesn't give us too much trouble, especially with our busy lives. At least for me, that would help.

This conversation was a good, "first step in the water". Is it possible to put a round peg in a square hole? "Accepting Natural Hair is Hard. Let's be Real." Do all humans have natural hair? Why are awful terms such as coarse, kinky, nappy and knotty used instead of coiled, curly, spiral and springy? Is the PROFOUND question whether African hair is accepted on females? Is accepting/rejecting African hair, African skin tones and African facial features culturally or genetically driven? Is femininity/masculinity ie body form, culturally or genetically driven? Do both males and females have the same hair texture/length, if not altered? Is hair texture/length becoming associated with gender culturally or genetically driven? What role does DNA play in hair texture/length, skin tones and facial features, regardless of gender? What did our ancestors call themselves, many centuries ago? Who started calling us black? WHY? Is it possible to put a square peg in a round hole?

tash boog, why write, "..........I understand and respect other's decision to not use these words, but more importantly, I practice acknowledgement that it just isn't my place to police free speech......", then ridicule a person? I, on the other hand, intervene when someone among us is entering a cul-de-sac. Is there a single word without meaning or purpose? Words have power and meaning, however we often turn words upside down, attempting to make them powerless or mean something else. Maybe we need to conjure up our own language or we will continue to confuse ourselves into oblivion. Oblivion-a state marked by lack of awareness or consciousness, Dreadlocks-the British, who were fighting the Kenyan Mau Mau rebellion during colonialism in the 1950s, encountered the warriors' locs and found them dreadful. Dreadful- extremely disagreeable, something regarded with sadness or disapproval. The purpose of n-word was to heap hatred/disdain upon us yet some call n-word a term of endearment. "See how yall give others power over us?" How can we give power that we never had? Misusing words is not a sign of power. Just because you say you are free does not mean/make you free.

As a biracial living in Nigeria 🇳🇬 i can relate to this video in so many ways. Just because the texture looks loose doesn't mean it doesn't come with it own challenges. I have a 3abc range of curls. I really love your channel. The natural hair movement really helped me with understanding how to care for my curly hair. I actually love Watching videos of 4c hair RU-vidrs because they inspire me if they can grow their hair long and healthy then I can.❤

@preciousfro I enjoyed this podcast and thank these three beautiful sisters for sharing their experiences with such vulnerability and transparency. Side note: I could not take my eyes off of your beautiful hair. I have 4A, low to medium density, fine to medium strand hair and since the first time I saw your hair in this style I have been trying to get that look with a twist out. I am not having much success getting the twist out to clump tightly. What am I doing wrong? Yes, I watched your video demonstrating the style.
@preciousfro
@preciousfro 5 месяцев назад
Thank you so much for your kind words! In regards to the hairstyle, in this video I have in twists, they are not the clumps that I showed recently. One thing I did do to get this style the night before was I re-moisturized my hair and put it into abut 6 braids with bantu knots on the ends. Then any of the ends that were not curled up to my chin area I put into individual bantu knots to get the style. I find that remoisturing twists and then locking it in with an oil or butter or both helps both twists and clumps to maintain their shape. I hope that helps!

This was an excellent video. What I noticed is that each of the ladies have manipulated their natural hair via extensions, and water and gel so it’s hard to see the actual texture of their hair. Their hair as they mentioned is mostly 3a,b or c, which is actually more acceptable in the Caucasian community than the 4’s. I think it’s still very obvious that they struggle with the texture of their hair with all the manipulation.

I think this type of content doesn't help. I just watch bigcurljustice or something like that and sis had the best afro I have seen yet. Said her hair changed from a 3c to 4a and she just rocked with it. Her hair is so thick it is intimidating but beautiful. She loves it. Also there are a bunch of sis still doing curly hair content who love their hair. Difficult. Geez, I style mine effortlessly. I love it. Never know what it is going to do each day. I have combination hair so it is a surprise. In the beginning it did drive me crazy because it didn't look like everyone else's doing curly hair content. Then I expatriated to Egypt and a lot of women and girls have my hair and the products are endless. My hair looks gorgeous most of the time.

I grew up in a white neighborhood. Geez, racial identity? That was never a thought. I played with white boys growing up. We weren't mentioning race. Besides I had hair down to my elbows in ponytails. My hair was longer than both of their sisters. Some black women live in their heads too much. I didn't even know I was pretty until much later in life. Refocus your mind on your spirit not your flesh. Much healthier. And when I did a big chop 12 inches of hair. It took a minute to learn my hair. Never had seen it that short. But I just wore my face. Meaning usually thrown in the back of my head. Focused on my style and face, for 3 years. I'm just now doing my hair again. I get so much attention on my face with no make up than I do with hair.
