🦶An accessory navicular bone can lead to severe inner foot pain or inside of the foot pain!🦶 This is also known as an os naviculare bone, accessory navicular syndrome and can be thought of as a fracture of the navicular bone. We go over the best accessory navicular syndrome treatment!
The truth is that this is actually an unfused accessory navicular bone. This is also known as a gorillaform accessory navicular. This can lead to radiating posterior tibial tendon pain along the inside of the ankle tendons. We go over the best accessory navicular pain treatment options!

It’s extremely prominent:/ otc inserts helped with the pain immediately. I’m having custom orthotics made and hopefully that will alleviate more pain. I’m wondering if a brace will help as well🤔

I only have this on one foot and I've had it my whole life. It's always been a problem because I'm a rollerskater but I just got used to the pain (my skates dont have room for arch inserts). My rollerskating teacher pointed it out when I was like 8 years old! (I'm 22 now). Often I would stick napkins under my arch to support it, and that helps so much. I've gone through arch support inserts and they do help, but nothing like how awesome my birkenstocks and good working boots are for it (highly recommend real birks!!! They support my arch SO well! I literally wear them every day there's not snow on the ground or if I'm not at work. And its cork so it absorbs shock). Literally never have pain when hiking/working in either of those, but I always do in sneakers and my rollerskates! I'd cry in how much pain I felt on a daily basis when I worked at a sub shop full shifts wearing sneakers (even really good ones/with arch support inserts!). Once I sat down, I couldnt even get up and walk without feeling almost as bad of pain as I did when I broke my ankle last year! Also, I think I have like a REALLY big accessory navicular lol, my friend felt it and they're like "that's just your ankle" and I'm like "no, THIS is my ankle" and they were shocked. I should probably go to a doctor though because it would be nice to know for certain and know what to do if anything gets that painful again! I ain't go not money for anything fancy tho haha I also have knees that bow in, like they're not aligned at all and the one with the accessory navicular bone is mu h worse. I guess I have flat feet, but I swear I have a really high arch when I stand correctly! I trained myself to walk more on the outsides of my feet after growing up wearing flat shoes my whole childhood. This help strengthen my foot and now it's out of habit that I walk better! Unless it's been a super long hard day sometimes my ankles cave inwards and it's painful again. Pretty much good though

Hi, I ha it diagnosed as a child and I went trough a surgery at 12 that I'm pretty sure didn't help that much. I'm currently experiencing lots of pain in my knees due to the syndrome which by the way Id didn't know was one until now. Amd life gets hard with it, I'm quitting my job because I work standing all day and my knees hurt so much that I can't stand it any longer, this thing just complicates life even more and apparently not a lot of doctors know about this. I went to a traumatologist and didn't have a clue about it.

Thank you for making this! This explains so much! I remember seeing an orthopedist as a young teen and being told that I had an extra bone in my foot 🦶 and that it was related to my flat feet. Flash forward a couple decades and I thought that I was suffering from plantar fasciitis, because I’m on my feet a ton as an ER nurse. Thankfully my pain is usually pretty easily taken care of with good orthotics, ice, and occasional NSAID’s, but this round has knocked me on my tush! I will be looking for a local DPM right away!

Your illustrations on your foot and the fact that I've been flat footed all my life. I'm 61. 5 ft 8 in. 150 lbs. I took my 67 camaro out for a drive day before yesterday. 327/ 4 speed! The clutch is a little stiff by today's standard shift hydraulic operated clutch pressure. After driving it in stop and go traffic, using the ball of my foot to actuate the clutch pedal, my navicular bone and surrounding tissue feels like someone hit me with a hammer EXACTLY where the extra bone some people have. I'm limping now for 2 days. I'm walking on the outboard part of my foot. It is very painful in that arch region on the side. The pain is localized and does not extend up into the ankle or leg. I've never experienced this before. I hope it gets better but it seems to be getting worse. Thanks for explaining what's hurting and possibly why. My being flat footed has not been an issue of any significance until day yesterday and today. I'm nearly crippled.

Had this pain for a year and when I searched why I have a unusual bone in my feet this video popped. Thanks for the much detailed video. Understood I have a situation so went to my ortho surgeon on last week Monday. He wanted me to keep ice for 10 min twice a day and come on Friday again. Took 3 types of blood tests as well. He said I don't need surgery for the moment. What I need is good shoe and minimize the activities like running and jumping for some time. Since Ive been keeping ice twice a day I see a diffrence now. Pain is almost gone and swollen and tension has reduced around the bone. Whoever have this situation should not wait. Because last one year I had this pain and it went gradually worse and ultimately I could not keep my feet down it was almost numb.

Pain is still present at heavy activity such as jumping after a month's rest from running with half hearted rehab and exercising. Doing isolated tib-post exercises (among others) with a rubber band painlessly and the muscle is starting to get rather buff haha, especially compared to the non-injured one.

21 years old and just found out i had it, cause after getting back to hockey after a decade, i noticed redness and some uncomfortable pain for the first months, and after asking about it to other hockey players a person told me about this, i never noticed it or felt like it was an abnormality untill i had to tie my skates really tight which made it turn red

I have this and I found out thanks to you!!! Thank you!!! I’ve had so many foot problems in my lifetime. I can’t drive so I walk everywhere. Since I moved I haven’t been walking as much. But I’m sure my feet issues probably stem from that or my spinal stenosis. I just got a brace for my foot. I usually wear socks in the house that have minor arch support but the other day I moved my foot wrong and it hurts!!!

okay I think this is my slightly unique situation! Whether its a stress fracture or note (Ill find out soon at my appoinment)... I was constantly confused why I kept finding that most commonly you're going to have tenderness on the top of the navicular.. but mine was kn the inside of my foot after a moderate trauma from rolling my ankle

I’m flat footed, I have custom insoles in my running shoes but no insole for my cycling shoes 🤔,, I’ll try to use the same insoles. Hope this will fix my issue.

I noticed it since quite long ago but I don't feel like I got flat foot or it hurting so I just leave it be. Maybe the reason why my feet looks normal was because I wore shoes 3 sizes bigger when I was young so they never really got rubbed and I don't do sports (which is what I constantly see people who also has it do) or walk that much.

Working the clutch made my flat foot go into the shape of a normal foot with a normal arch. That aggravated the navicular bone and surrounding tissue. Im convinced that is what happened and why my arch area on side of my foot below the ankle area at that navicular bone is so sore. It feels bruised but no visible signs of trauma. Working that clutch with a strong pressure plate and mechanical linkage has really pissed off my arch. Because i dont have one! Lol

I am 33. I am here because I’ve hurt my navicular bone while finishing my trek. I twisted my foot in an almost flat ground. I started limping going home. I don’t have flat feet and I realized that it is not an ankle and when comparing to my sister’s feet she does not have the small excess bone. So I initiated to research what is this painful small bone, figured out it is accessory navicular bone. I am doing cold compress but I really feel sad knowing how many months it will take to get healed naturally. I have more plans of hiking and trekking soon.

Thank you so much for the introduction and advice! I tried inserts, and compression ankle braces, a treatment with a wave that is extremely painful, but not stability braces yet. The doctors suggested surgery but I need to wait... Could you recommend some brands of shoes? By the way, why these products on amazon are so cheap? 😅In Germany, they are at least 130EUR and insurance only covers meaning two pairs per year 100*2 EUR, we need to pay an extra 30 EUR or 50/100 /... EUR for better versions for each pair.

This video made SO much sense. I was completely fine until I went on a run in Sacony sneakers. Ten minutes in my foot completely gave out and I felt pain like never before. I waited a week to go to the doctor because my parents told me I was being dramatic (lol, I am CEO of health issues). A week later on my birthday I went and was told I have this extra bone. I was given a boot for a month. Went back, the boot did not help and was put in a cast. Got out of the boot a week before my wedding and x-rays still weren't good. I was back in the boot for the wedding and got a MRI week of. Not only do I have the extra bone, but arthritis and heel problems now too, along with a random lump that my doctor cannot seem to figure out (he said its not a bone lol). So I've been in the boot since October and will be until March when I get surgery. I would LOVE to heal it naturally and not get surgery, but sadly I am not sure if that is an option :(

I just learned recently I have this accessory navicular and I’m unsure of what treatment to seek out. I rolled my ankle on New Years and the post tendon and navicular have been sore and not getting better. I’ve been wearing an off the shelf insole support and shoes recommended by a podiatrist but it’s still an issue. I’ve heard laser therapy could work or also shockwave therapy to re-injure the area so healing can start again but I’m so unsure which to choose.

I have an accessory navicular bone. This has been confirmed by ultrasound and MRI. Due to running and walking, the tendons of the posterior tibial muscle became inflamed. I bought custom Formthotics insoles. But they put pressure on the sore point, squeeze the inflamed tendon and I feel even worse. ((
