There's a beautiful song by Alan Jackson called Remember When...this is my version for today's society: Remember when gas prices were so low you could drive or fly anywhere you'd wanna go but today we can't afford to leave our very homes... Remember when you could feed a family of four groceries stock piled from the ceiling to the floor it was a hard choice to make but now the prices are outrageous the shelves are bare and baby formula is hard to find... Remember when we could walk down the street no care in the world we felt safe from everything but today you look around unsure if you'll make it home and in the news plastered about war open borders not safe anymore... Remember when.... Do you remember when...

Civil War was about giving power back to the states, which happened to include the right for the states to choose whether or not slavery was legal in their state. They felt that the federal government was too powerful.

Guys, ever heard the saying,"history is written by the victors"? As some others have pointed out, there is more to the South's secession than slavery and more to Lincoln not letting them secede than freeing slaves. For instance, the Emancipation Proclamation only freed slaves in the South, there were still slaves in the Union states that were not freed by it.

Brad Paisley's part is fine, but LL's is downright offensive. Comparing being mistreated for wearing a hair product to being mistreated for wearing a percieved hate symbol is not the same. Saying he'll forgive the iron chains if Brad forgives his gold chains that cost more than my car is a slap in my face. Oh great, we can let all of the oppression slide because they let LL's expensive, gaudy taste that the average person can't afford slide. Great.

I just came across this ..thank you for listening...I'm as far from racist you can get...my parents taught us better. My brothers are military men and I have kids born on Fort Knox Ky. And Ft. Sill Oklahoma... I've sat down with everyone of my 4 boys and my daughter and had them listen to this song. I think it's a song all kids need to hear and have a conversation on. My husband and I pretty much agree with most of what you guys said about this song and have voiced the same opinions to our kids. Thank you again.

The rebel flag had zero to do with the civil war and wasn’t even the flag of the confederacy. I’m a yankee from Detroit who now lives in Tennessee. Judging people who had zero to do with the civil war and see the flag not through racism but through rebelling against a federal government who makes laws that restricts rights of Americans in a one size fits all way. The laws may be what New York and California people want but 2/3rds of the country wants them out of our lives. That’s what I get from people. Even in conservative areas of Michigan they wear those shirts in the same way. They aren’t pro racism. I don’t wear those shirts not because I hate the flag but because I’m not a rebellious type. My daughter dates a black man. My son is gay and dates a black guy. My mother in law dated a black guy before her death. He wore the flag. Who the person is is what matters not what’s on the shirt they are wearing. I don’t get offended when I see a black panther fist on a black Americans shirt. I see that as racist but I would doubt that 90% of those people see that fist as promoting racism. We have to get passed those stereotypes and judge people by their hearts, not their wardrobes

Every time I hear this song, I always feel LL Cool J part of the song is weaker than Brad Paisley’s. It always felt like Cool J was just ad-libbing his part. While Brad had his classic country imagery and songwriting skills on display in the lyrics.

Was this song made when Obama started to push the race divide or what was happening when this song was made?
@Nctracklife
@Nctracklife 2 года назад
In case you’re not aware, Brad is a big Obama supporter and fan of both him & his wife, Michelle. He wrote his song “Welcome to the future” right after it was announced that he had won the 2008 election, because of how proud he was to for them & our country for making it happen. Then he preformed it live at the White House for them just a few weeks after his inauguration. Obama didn’t cause a racial divide. People started showing their racism the moment he, a black man, won the presidential election. They accused him of not being a national born American, demanding he provide his birth certificate, which he did. Then they tried to claim his wife, Michelle, was really a man, not a woman, and then of course that he was Muslim and hated any and everything to do with Christianity. Obama’s win showed how much racism still exist. Brad & LL Cool J wrote this song together, in 2013, the year after Obama won his 2nd term. The song is saying not to judge a book by its cover, and if you take a minute to speak to someone different than you, you’ll likely find out you’re more alike than you know & how wrong your initial thoughts of them were. They joined together to write this song so they could reach each of their genre’s of musics audience, together.

From a Southerner, when you move to the south, please know that it wasn't about Slavery. Yes, slavery was a part of it, but not the whole reason. Number one, Abraham Lincoln said in a letter that if he could win the civil war without freeing the slaves, then he would have. Secondly, General Lee was very much against slavery, but he couldn't go against Virginia and fight his brothers, as he said. The Civil War started because the south did not want one man to govern them. They wanted each state to govern themselves.
@bertellijustin6376
@bertellijustin6376 2 года назад
This is only have true. The democrats absolutely went to war over slavery. You are correct when speaking of the Unions ultimate goals (preserve the union, slavery optional) and correct when speaking of the average soldier (they fought to defend their states from an invading army).

I feel like you guys are a bit off base. The Civil War did not start because southerners wanted to keep their slaves. It became a factor, but it was not the reason. Southerners were against having a federal government ruling over them. They wanted the states to govern themselves. Abraham Lincoln, who detested slavery, didn't think he could win the war on the basis of liberating slaves. The main reason it became about freeing slaves was 1. To give the war a higher purpose and to revitalize the people's support, and 2. To keep Europe from getting involved and supporting the south (Europe didn't want to go against 'freeing the slaves'). The rebel flag does not represent slavery. The rebel flag was a symbol of 'rebellion' against big government.

Thanks for watching and commenting. What were the reasons the south thought the federal government was overreaching? What would have happened if the south agreed to free the slaves and then discuss those other issues? - B -
@brandieluther7954
@brandieluther7954 2 года назад
@@CedricandBrian that's the point. The South was not the only one to have slaves. The North had slaves as well. They wanted the South to kneel down to one Government, and they weren't okay with that. The South wanted each state to be free, not to be held by one Government
@TheRealness408
@TheRealness408 2 месяца назад
You are incredibly wrong. The South wasn't against the Federal Government ruling over them. The South was mad that the Feds wouldn't force The North to return escaped slaves. The Civil War was started because The South was mad at states exercising their rights and wanted the Feds to force states to comply. The only time The South fought for states rights was the right to abolish laws pertaining to slavery.

Hi Vincent, my music tastes have changed over the years. In the 70’s I was a fan of bands with horn sections like Earth Wind and Fire and Chicago but then started listening to bands like Queen and Styx. In early 80’s I listened to Oingo Boingo, Tears for Fears, Elvis Costello. Mid to late 80’s I was writing music and playing in bands. 90’s was actually my favorite era. I felt I’d finally found my music. Alice In Chains, Pearl Jam, Sound Garden. That whole sound was and still is my favorite. I always said I didn’t like Country music, but I find myself listening to country music more and more these days. So as you can see, I’m all over the place. 😂- B -

41 I want to correct you the Civil War wasn't about the south wanted to keep their slaves the Civil War was about Federal overreach of the federal government wanting to capitalize on the money from slavery it wasn't even started over slavery it was made about slavery because Lincoln was losing the war the second thing I want to correct you on the Dixie flag the rebel flag was never used as an official flag for the Confederate States of America it's not even classified as a Confederate flag it was a northern Virginia battle state flag and it was a confederate Navy flag but it was never used as an official flag for the Confederate States of America ever people's lack of knowledge on this I find confusing because if you want to attack the Confederate flag the know the right flag to attack the Dixie flag is not a Confederate flag and it was never an official flag for the Confederacy ever

you guys are wrong period end of sentence. The south seceded over slavery then had to defend her right to secede from a tyrant that started killing her people . that flag stands for the resistance to a tyrannical government. and by the way it is an American flag. not a flag of hate but a flag of pride. Guessing you went to the government school that surely wouldn't steer you wrong.

I proudly wear both flags an fly both flags man i have no hate in my heart for no one of color. An Southern pride is a real thing we are proud of being from the south we proud of our heritage an im not proud of our history but the North hands aren't completely clean from this either may we remind you of Sherman's March through the South? He burned it down an im sure they killed alot of civilians while they were at it too. Both of our hands are dirty with this Lincoln only freed the slaves in the South the unions still had slavery not all of the South seceded from the Union. Lincoln didn't mess with them slaves until after the war was over. To think about the geological areas at that time and technology wasn't there yet. The north was more industrial the south is agriculture I'm sure if we had technology that would have made it to get all that stuff done the technology would have replaced the slaves and then we would have had to done as a country was figure out what are we going to do with all these people. I'm not saying that would have been the right move but a civil war really wasn't either because we are still divided as a nation. I dont judge based on looks I talk to people and I judge based on the conversation we have and the vibe I got. Now I understand this is probably not every Southerner but I'm pretty sure I can tell you this is probably the majority of us. And just like we said we can't help that a hate group used. The klan actually tried to stop. At least one of the klan groups did I don't remember if it was the first klan or the second or third one but I do remember about hearing about that because I have done my fair share of research klan an in documentarys just because I want to figure out why they think do i was child an i had meet an ex klan member an it just git under my skin how can u hate someone based on their color of their skin my momma didn't rasie me up to be like that my mom had black friends and ive got black friends. Now i dont hang out with them much but i dont hang out with my white friends ethier like that im not a people person i dont like being around people sometimes. I dont know what that is maybe i just dont like people in general especially ones i dont know. I dont go telling Yankees y'all should teach about the massacres y'all committed during the Civil war because we know it happened on both sides. I get where yall are coming from but why should we have to change and when do you think about it I mean that flag has been around a majority of Our lives here in the south and I'm pretty sure there are a lot of Southerners who don't even look at it as a hate symbol and we know who flies the flag and we really wish they didn't but this is America we cannot stop them they have that right too unfortunately but you know what they fly the American flag too that doesn't make the American flag a hate flag or slavery or segregation flag so it shouldn't do the same to the Confederate flag we just wanna honnor our ancestors because even though the cause of the Civil war may have had a evil in it does not particularly make them evil if you really understood the south at that time it was a very small percentage of owned slaves an had the money too u also have to think there were moonshiners who fought for the Confederacy and a lot of people just didn't want to pick up guns against the people of their state that is the whole reason for the second amendment in the first place the south felt like the government was over reaching its powers so a war broke out and it was inevitable there was going to be a war breaking out because by the time we had gained independence from Britain the abolitionist movement had already started and they were already abolitionist here in America now it may have not been a big number but they were abolitionist an they chose to do a compromise on slavery said it would be legal for 20 years an than after that we could figure it out from there and also you have to think about how the rich southerners felt at the same time because slavery was legal in the north they had abolitionist laws like if a slave was in a Northern State for 6 months than that person would be free and then the federal government comes in in 1860 and was basically going to bully the South into freeing the slaves after the North had already started to industrialize an the south hand nothing else to replace the slaves I'm not saying slavery was good I'm just saying I can understand why people in the south at the time felt that the government was overreaching and fucking them. No I don't know if that's actually how they all felt but I know for certain there had to be someone who felt that exact way we made mistakes on both ends in the cause of slavery falls on both the North and the South because we both allowed it. So i feel like it just shouldn't be on us an we shouldnt be told buy a bunch of outsiders of this statue has to go down that flag is hateful we understand there are hateful people who use it but not all of us are hateful. The south is one of the most best spots to be and to raise a family especially in a small town an we are some of the most polite people in this country. And a lot of people who run their mouths are probably not coming and interacting with us every day or ever how are people going to let a piece of fabric make up your judgment on how somebody probably feels about u it was wrong when white people were doing it on the basis of skin color and it's wrong for people to be doing it based on a flag. It's just a different cultural man and I don't judge yall for not getting it but I mean we just don't want to change no more y'all realize the federal government has changed us a lot when you think about from where we were to where we are now and I don't like where we are now. And now y'all are finally seen what we were talking about this whole time you can give the government too much power an that what has happened. Let things just naturally play out things had to forced and some things I can understand why they were forced but what's just going on now has gone too damn far. I love America but I hate the government but ill always love the south am what we stand for now. Hell even back then just without the racism slavery. And look if we're going to save this country we need to get on the same page my guys because its going to shit fast. So are we really going to keep letting a piece of fabric divide us just because you think I'm hateful and racist or are we going to put that aside for the betterment of this country? Thats the questions people need to ask themselves
