Accidentally Bought 2 Backhoes 

I really miss this channel. It was one of the few channels more focused on just following along with someone rather than a channel trying to build a RU-vid empire. I hope you both are doing well and enjoying life!

I hope you guys upload another video. It’s a few years later, I’d love to see a video of your equipment at work.

Really happy for our guys. I did the exact same thing 15 years ago and don't regret any of it for one minute. You will save yourself alot of money and it will be worth it. In addition you will still own equipment that can be resold in the future. Good luck in the building process.

Nice score on that Terex...we have an ASV RC30 and it is the best skid steer we've had. It will go ANYWHERE. Literally. The thing will almost climb walls. The torsion suspension is amazing.

So excited you are posting again! Look forward to all the new content. Could you and Lauren provide a general update on your future plans? Such as: 1. At one point you were going to use your dealer's license to buy, test out, and then sell RVs. What's the status of that? In a previous video you said you had bought and sold a lot of cars. Are you doing that instead of RVs? 2. What's the status of the used car buying guide? 3. A few years ago the plan was to have a few different properties in various locations including Costa Rica. Is that still a goal? Any progress on that? I know Covid-19 has probably affected your short term and possibly long term goals, but you both seem great at adapting to change and curious what your goals were before and after this pandemic. Hope you are healthy and staying safe! Good luck with the house!

Use to run a 580 B Case and it was great. Enjoyed running it.

Always sleep on a purchase! I learned the exact same lesson buying a minivan on ebay...only to find "the one" moments after buying the first. Decided to buy both because it was such a good deal. When we got to first van the owner didn't have the title in possession. I used this to get out of the deal. They tried to keep my $300 deposit but they had already given me the keys. I told them fine but if they wanted the keys I needed the money back. They were running after us with cash before I could get out of their driveway. Auction buying...oy!

Does anyone here watch Andrew Camarata on RU-vid? I like watching his videos of him using and fixing up equipment like this

I'm fascinated to know how Mike and Lauren are responding to the "Once in a Lifetime" Pandemic. I wonder if they have considered doing an "#Gratitude Video" with the respective backhoe sellers. It seems, on the surface at least, that both had a genuine reason to "do what they did". Even if an update video isn't forthcoming in the short term, I send my best wishes to the two of them. May #wisdom and #courage be #great friends in your #relationship!

Great "learning" story for guys just getting into construction equipment. You're right when you say there's never a reason to give a deposit unless you're 100% positive you're getting a smoking deal. That's happened to us three, maybe four times in the past 30 years.

wow almost a year since posting... wonder what happened to this.

Hind sight is always 20/20. It's difficult to find a good machine at a decent price. Excavators ain't cheap, I know, I've been looking. I ended up settling on a backhoe too. The back hoe will get the job done but not nearly as easily as an excavator. Thanks for sharing your experience.

The CASE has the 4 in 1 front Bucket, very nice. YES I use to Drive, dig with a 420 FORD Backhoe, it had the CHAIN swing Chain around the base of BOOM it had FORD controls, takes something to learn on Backhoes It was allso a CLUTCH shift you had to shift a FLOOR gear nob to go forward and Backward In my personal life. Got a 190 DYNAHOE 1978- 8000 Hours, it leaked Hyd. Fluid like yours, also NO brakes and if you know DYNAHOE thay have a MICRO switch for right and left brake rear wheel lock outs So my WIFE wrote up SALES contact, the seller wanted 9000 We gave him 5000, with legal document, that we would pay him the rest if the price of repair was LOWER than cost for Brakes, Hyd Leaks ect........... Had my shop guys who I use to repair the Backhoe, the guy use to SELL them LOCALLY when B E still sold them NEW, he knew everything about DYNAHOE'S it cost more than 4000 to fix problems, the guy wanted his money badly, he was a home builders who needed money he was selling everything he had to build homes. You ask WHY I bought a 190 DYNAHOE I look at it like a guy wanting his FAVORITE power car from the 70 I wanted a DYNAHOE.

Those 580s are awsome we have a 480 we bought new in 87 its great if it only dident need all new hoses just because over the years they have ben dry rotted still all work but for most of them i could use new hoses

9k !!!!! such a sweet deal. I would have never went to look at the Ford in the first place , maybe everything works now but when it breaks its a money pit... The case is the backhoe that you want.

You could do modifications, using scrap metal to cover the bottom, moving the hoses...

Key with a backhoe is keep your work area clean .... Case is a nice machine ..... terex are still running under mecalac and is also an asv made under license so components should be same

Great buy on the Case! That's a much better machine than the Ford even in equal condition. The 580 series of backhoes pretty much built America since they were first built back in the 60's!

Next toy should be a manlift. Another useful tool. 9K for that Case is a steal. I have a Bobcat 751 skidsteer and a Bobcat X331 excavator so I do understand you wanting and excavator but I think your sitting pretty good. When I was looking for an excavator I noticed FL has a ton of construction equipment. Unfortunately I'm in WI.

Ford has some parts issues and hoses are difficult. But it was 4wd that's worth a bunch. Tint windows don't mean much. Good luck.

bro i have a trex HR16 and that works like a beast and even better i get parts from bobcat they match up perfectly

I've been through a lot of 580 Cases.. B series all the way to N series...Best bang for your buck is the L series ...the K was a good machine..the bad about them is the hydraulic tank was made into the chassis of machine..the boxed chassis was too rigid and in rough, uneven terrain they would crack in such a way it was almost impossibleto find..also the rear diff would go out if your grading and incountered something hard in the ground that made a major impact (or maybe that was just mines)...I wasn't a big fan of the fords ...but I would have taken the lost on the deposit if the case was 4x4....clearing land with a backhoe you have to prep everything with the hoe..the blade is just for making piles..and make small advances then reverse (pay SPECIAL ATTENTION when reversing, your radiator depends on it) when pushing the brush to make sure underside is clear...and I personally would have gotten rid of the tint ..Have Fun!!

Those case backhoe loaders are very strong I got one never had to put that much money in it

Very good advice and one thing I have learned never buy a backhoe unless it's running no matter if somebody says it ran 2 years ago that was my mistake and I learned

young man , all u need to clear lands with forestry " drum " mulcher kubota 95 or 100 series . this way u can save alot of money !

They do make under bellies for combo- tractors. But most buyers make their own and install them, cheaper then buying them from the dealer.

Such a great channel, but they don't upload any more? I really think that if they did upload on a regular basis they would have reached over half a million subs and had a good income from RU-vid. I just love their videos and journey.

is that a 26 foot box truck? I've been looking to buy one to convert to an RV... but I can't find anything for less than $10,000 How in the world did you get that for $1k?

Nice. But be aware that back dragging with that 4-in-1 bucket open runs the risk of pulling it out of shape. Bowing it. You're in Florida without heavy rocks so you may be okay, but just don't pull too hard on it. It will bend. I know because I have that bucket on my Case 580.

My papa has a ford 555c he has done so much work with it and it has been a good piece of equipment. I would have kept the ford the ford will out last that case and it has more power yea it will need maintenance but it will still last you forever so who ever bout it will be satisfied with it. We have had ours and the only two problems were the power steering went out so we fixed it and it had some a minor problem with the engine but it has plenty of power and it has been good we have had it for 12 years probably the best back hoe we could’ve bought our county has the same back hoe as ours and they say good things about theirs

After getting $1000.00 discount from the second seller for the Case, why didn't you just get your $3000.00 deposit back from the Ford guy? Take the $1000.00 loss...lesson learned

Too late now but I wonder what legal recourse you would have had with the guy with the deposit. Hind sight is 2020. Definately would have been better to take a $2k loss from the front and not worry about picking up the Ford, making repairs, and selling.

Those hoses at the top of the boom would bother me. Tie them up or arrange them so they follow the boom

In all honesty backhoes are big dumb machines that do nothing well. Contractors rarely use prefer them, in fact I have never heard of one that does. They are best for city maintenance crews who need an all- in-one machine to make the rounds each week in a city. Grading contractors usually prefer compact track loaders and mini excavators because you can get so much more done with them. There are videos online showing the superior work rates of these machines.

The 580k was always a great machine. I cut my teeth on one back in the 90s as a teenager. Hopefully you have good luck with it.
