It's a hard lesson learned when a hat goes into a helicopter engine's intake. It's called FOD. Uniform standards are for grunts with no job, the flight line is for big boys :P
respect to those guys - they did their jobs, but did it with consideration. In other words, they were cool about it, which a lot of folks wouldn't be...
Agreed. skateboarders get the police called on them for skating on sidewalks but paragliders just get a notice/requirement warning from the military lmao
STM Saiiyn because you're more likely to hit a person or car while skateboarding than hitting a person while paragliding, it's not like skating is illegal, it's just that it might be bothersome or dangerous for the people around you.
STM Saiiyn the main problem with skaters is they damage property when they do tricks and they run into people more often. Skaters have designated areas to skate and so do paramotors
STM Saiiyn when you do rail slides on a skateboard you wear down paint on the surface of the rails and it makes property owners upset. Also sliding can leave behind skid marks. Anything you do with the board that involves friction basically can cause damage. People are hit by skaters a lot and they complain. Idk why skaters are targeted though, a lot of things can cause property damage
I'm going to share this with my flight instructor so he can share it with his students to highlight the importance of checking NOTAMs, this could easily catch a private pilot off guard too especially if this is not their home airport.
HeathFX 100% I'm about to get my private fir rotorcraft and Its shocking to me that this guy actually asked if they could take off out of the Delta after how nice he was. I know so many pilots who would be sooooo butthurt if some idiots were flying these things around the field
All your flight service briefings are going to include a check of notams. I doubt it we had to private pilot off guard unless reducing or a notice. Which they should check before every flight.
This is a prime example of who really runs the show in the military. NCO is doing all the talking while the captain just listens and minds his manners. Either way, I think they handled it very nicely on both sides.
A good co will give command to his nco’s and staff nco’s until he or she feels they are needed. It’s part of field training. Gives them a better look at the progression of their troops. See who is ready for the next step.
Officers don't do anything besides tell ncos who to yell at, its not an officers job to do any type of grunt work including mps. They are behind the scenes. You can cuss out your lt as a private and he will tell you " your right " walk away with a smile and tell the NCO to destroy your world and then act like the nice guy after it all....
BK117Dude that's because in the army ATC'er are only enlisted and most stop actively controlling once they hit E6. Sources, ex army controller / current FAA controller.
Those guys were way cool about all that. I fly in class B airspace now and then just outside the Utah Nat'l Guard base. Same thing with the UH-60's and AH-64's flying low in the same area.
I think the fact that wasn't a mission-critical airspace was probably why they were so calm. If this was a place where the military actually has critical data or equipment, they probably wouldn't have been so nice.
No not professional, they didn't have their communication clear, and just nice talked the guy into not flying. Nice doesn't equal professional. Not only that but he should have had paperwork to help facilitate the communication.
Had to turn the volume all the way up to hear the army guy so it was like "ᴵᶠ ʸᵒᵘ ᶜᵒᵘˡᵈ ʲᵘˢᵗ ᵇʳᶦⁿᵍ ᵃ ʳᵃᵈᶦᵒ ⁿᵉˣᵗ ᵗᶦᵐᵉ" YEAH SURE I DIDN'T REALIZE SORRY!!!!
TexasGTO There's a common ground here. respect. you get what you receive. I've only been pulled over once. it could have been a felony but I was respectful with him and he let me go. Edit: I still get replies 4 years later so let me update my stance. Since I posted this I have been pulled over two more times. Both times for speeding, the first time I was doing around 20 over and the second time 10 over. Everytime I get pulled over I accept that I’m going to get a ticket, I’m relaxed and just treat the officer like the average person. Still have not received a ticket. For those asking, yes I’m white (isn’t that profiling? Lol) I’m also military. Not saying that puts me above the law as I also never say I’m military. They typically know the second they see you.
"Accidentally flying paramotor in a military controlled airspace" First three seconds of the video: *Obviously flying in a military airspace* MERICAAAA
Military aircraft can fly into any airport they choose. While you would not see a B-1 landing at the airport in the above video, helicopters or even a C-130 most certainly could. I have watched many military aircraft including the VIP aircraft from Andrews practice approaches and touch and go's into PHF in Newport News all the time, even with Langley AFB just 10 miles away.
Saieel Prabhu 😂😂 yes it does. It’s a base. There’s a gate and a guard and a fence and it says AREA 51. I swear people just say shit. They’re like 6 year olds running around just saying shit all willy nilly.
Yup, I landed at this exact airport in a Cessna 152 last Monday without realizing it was Class D. The embarrassing part is that I did check the notams, but very quickly by glancing over them and I must have missed it. Lesson learned, pay closer attention to notams. I'm still a student pilot, still learning...
"Cool dudes, they waved me to come on down" /doesn't land "Prolly come and land and talk to them/him for a sec" /doesn't land "We'll see what they have to say" /doesn't land "I'll come and land and see what's up with them" /finally lands lul
Boalol lal ........Harnett county's pretty laid back so you would have to do something really bad for it to become a problem. You guys should have come over to Kennebec it's always fun to watch the parasailes fly.
I called the airport about their notam being vague the next day and they added another notam to clear up that it is indeed class D airspace. check her out! www.notams.faa.gov edit: they're gone so you won't see the notam anymore
Even if it wasn't made a class d by notam, class g/e communications areas (controlled e/g airports) are a thing. §91.126(d) and §91.127(c) cover this... except 91.1(e) specifically states that 103 operations aren't subject to 91, thus not subject to the e/g communications areas? Once it was notam'd a D, however, 103.17 comes into play regardless.
A NOTAM can open a tower at any untowered airport much like it can close a tower at a towered airport. Towers can absolutely exist at Class G airports. KTME was a G tower until recently. KLCQ is another well known example. Both had Ds put up recently. Class E/G towers are uncommon, but they exist. Read the regs listed for more information.
I wasn't disputing that. The normal airport operates, however, as a uncontrolled/un-towered Class G. I totally understand the NOTAM changed that, only for the time period in question.
As a veteran it makes me really happy to see such a genuine friendly calm understanding conversation being had with them trying to find a genuine solution that'd work for everyone involved
This is a great example of what can happen if you don't check the NOTAMS. This would have had a VERY different outcome if he was flying a larger aircraft such as an airplane.
Honestly? This is how all situations with authority should be handled, calm, positive and in good spirits. You're nice to them, they're super nice to you, and these two seemed very chill and super happy with how this went down, they even ended up having a little conversation with you. New to your channel but already enjoying all of your videos! :)
They handled this like pros. The guard were guests of the airport and respected the paragliders. They brought them up to speed and educated them on what's up. Always check the Notams. Well handled on both parts.
@@sugarbooty g is uncontrolled airspace, D is controlled airspace. Think of it like this, G you can do whatever you want... D you need permission from the controlling agency to do anything.
@@sugarbooty I legit didn't realize that comment was a year old. Whoops. Sorry the CFI in me wanted to say something so if others watching the video were curious at least someone would have an answer. Good luck on the drone license!
Thanks for posting this - actually a wake up call for me to check NOTAMs when out puddle jumping or on breakfast flights. I've admittately gotten slack. Those guys were super cool about it and not at all trying to bust your balls over an airspace violation - it's good to see level headedness and friendly interaction in the aviation community. My home airport is small and nested in a wooded area. That said, in the evening and at night it gets a lot of Blackhawk traffic - I presume they are practicing night ops - but it never goes class D. I have worked around them in the pattern at night on a handful of occasions.
Joseph Banning it's the same with this airport. They fly in and out when it's class G airspace and it doesn't change anything but they wanted the area to train for a bit. glad you enjoyed
Dude was chill enough. They put in the proper work to make it temp class D for everyone's safety, even invited them back as soon as they grabbed a radio. Dude was polite and even interested in the hobby. Props to him.
I really like how each part handled this, being polite and well intended usually leads to a good result, in this case raising awareness and improving communications in order to avoid future incidents, well played.
Fuck me in the ass Because I love Jesus they are Army. Look at their tag on the uniform. In retrospect it's a misconception to think the National Guard is a separate branch. They are one in the same
Most people make enough money to save up for something like this in a few years. Just don't spend any money on drugs, alcohol, tobacco or any unnecessary luxuries and you'll be surprised by just how much you'll be saving.
I think you mean what a difference in level of respect shown by the person recording. Give respect, you usually get it. Act like a prick, you get treated that way. The civilians need to get their shit together
Most of them were National Guard Soldiers, but myself and a few of my soldiers (Active Duty) were out assisting the unit. I think it's pretty cool to see this video have so many views.
That's how people in the military are; approach the situation with due diligence and kindness but if the situation does not improve, attack with overwhelming force!!
They were also very cool to you, and that is not always the case, as former AF, can tell you that I watched a couple of ours guy tear into people. But have to say, always take comms with you, it just makes everything better for anyone int he area, besides it is cool to hear/speak to others in aviation.
In the event of a containment breach, all class D personel are to administered a class c amnestic or otherwise eliminated once the breach has been recontained.
Gosh, those military men are so nice. I live in India and if you're even mistaken for committing an infraction, the military men won't talk to you with their mouth, they'll just ask you to leave like "shoo animal!". If you tried to talk they'll start speaking with their batons and be rude AF.
that went WAY better than i thought, that was cool of them to let you keep playing in the area while they worked and with very reasonable requests as well.
As a microlight pilot I know what fun it is to fly so low but please take heed that one day flying so low you will have an engine failure and it allways happens when you least expect it ,when microlight flying we are taught to allways have a field or somewhere suitable in view incase of engine failure which used to happen often on toothed drive belts. Good videos.
GREAT JOB AS ALWAYS ! My Celebrity clients and I are ALL big fans. I own a Celebrity Bodyguard company 100% U.S. Veterans & my friend gave us a VIDEO of 2 U.S. NAVY F-14 TomCats due that same thing. Was super crazy. They rolled up on this UNKNOWN plane VIOLATING restricted airspace and were trying to keep this unknown plane from approaching the Aircraft Carrier they were protecting while flying a CAP, then the U.S. NAVY F-14 fighter planes flew right up next to the unknown plane and tried to intimate him, then the one F-14 rolled upside down inverted and gave the unknown pilot the middle finger and took a photo, while upside down and giving the middle finger. It worked and the unknown plane left the restricted area. AND here is the CRAZY PART, when the 2 F-14's got back to the Aircraft Carrier the Capt CHEWED THEM OUT and YELLED at them, but he did have some good news, they had just been qualified to go to TOP GUN and then PETE "MAVERICK" MITCHELL and his RIO Goose had a good LoL and went on to join the TOP GUN school. Tragically Mavericks RIO Goose would be killed in a training accident, then this one dude ICEMAN was all up in Mav's Grille (probably a-Gay-Thing, right cuz we all say the volleyball scene) but later Mav and Iceman would make a good team fighting the bad guys.... NOW here is the REAL CRAZY part, I/ we work for T.C. and he is on the front page of our site, our company name is in my Google name. We were on set for T.G. PART 2 AKA MAVERICK, and it was AMAZING, except for the millennials who co starred, cuz they are the worst !!!!
An airport becomes class D airspace or higher if it has an operating control tower. I believe when the notam states a control tower will be operating by definition it's stating the upgrade in airspace.
Assuming you're a child from your spelling, I'll also assume you know very, very little on airports. The military does not own the airport. They were temporarily using it for practice as said in the video. For the due remainder of the militaries time there, there would be certain restrictions.
you mentioned the NOTAM's did not designate the airspace as Class D, then based on FAR - They cannot operate it as Class D, and just suddenly pop it up on you. Had you followed the NOTAM, its saying, " Hey, Temporary Tower here at this freq, Airspace remains the same " which means, you do not have knowledge of Class D Rules are in effect. You are still Operating with knowledge that its still Class G. That is not your fault, and actually you could have pinned that squarely on the Army Guys, Civil Air Patrol and the FAA for not clearly designating the Airspace as Class D with a 5 Mile Radius SFC to 2000. Though i totally understand the chill attitudes and the friendly gesture by the Army guys, to say "hey, we can give you a couple options here" rather than bringing out LE and MP's to detain you with arrogance and forcible power. I respect that on both sides here. yall had a good conversation. and it ended without conflict which is the best outcome.
going back to those NOTAM oh Absolutely a partial NOTAM. !HRJ 05/010 HRJ SVC TEMPO TWR LOCAL CTL 123.150 1705092244-1705170200 Not a Single mention of Class Airspace change. Which is to be included per FAR 7-1-5: Airspace changes in general. For FDC NOTAMs that are generated due to unforeseen events, use keyword/title “AIRSPACE…NOTICE”. Short Version: They fucked up.
i just found the CURRENT !HRJ 06/005 HRJ SVC TEMPO TWR LOCAL CTL 122.7/231.7, GND CTL 328.125 DLY 1200-0001 2206061200-2206190001 CREATED: 05 Jun 2022 20:17:00 they are STILL not posting the Airspace NOTICE of change. i would call them out on that, they are submitting partial and incomplete NOTAM's
