THE MISFIT - starring Clyde Cook, with Blanche Payson and Joe Roberts. A rarely-seen silent comedy short. Visit www.accidentallypreserved.com for film notes and DVD ordering info. Musical score © 2013 by Ben Model; all rights reserved. Henpecked hubby Clyde totes groceries and paints floors for his wifey, escaping at last...by joining the U.S. Marines. The basic training sequence was shot at the Buster Keaton studios; this may be "Big" Joe Roberts' final screen role.

Glad that this was preserved! Even only this one reel! Perhaps one day the whole film will be found like quite a few are these days.

Thanks for posting this. Clyde Cook came from Port Macquarie in New South Wales, Australia, so even in the days of "silent" movies, Australians were making a name for themselves in Hollywood.

Big Joe Roberts', the heavy in so many Buster Keaton classic, last screen appearance - glad this still exists, truncated though it is

I was looking at old newspapers at a local library on microfilm from about 1918 and in the entertainment section of course I saw chaplin but I saw Clyde Cook being shown so I'm guessing he was more famous then we think now.

Cook starred in lots of comedy shorts throughout the silent era, and played supporting roles in late 1920s features like von Sternberg's "Docks of New York".

Haven't seen the Talmadge/Ford film, but have seen Roberts in an Arbuckle-directed Poodles Hanneford comedy NO LOAFING (1923); only one reel of this survives. Glad you enjoyed THE MISFIT!

I just loved it. I like seeing Big Joe in other movies besides Buster's. Have you seen him in The Primitive Lover made in 1922 starring Constance Talmadge and the silent actor Harrison Ford? He was so good in it. Thank you so much for posting this.
