Digital angle gauges can save a ton of time setting up a saw for a cut!
Thanks to Home Depot and Calculated Industries for providing a review sample for my honest feedback.

Thanks for the very good review. I would have liked to see a test where you measure the accuracy of the gauge and compare that to the stated accuracy. You could do that, for example, by taking a Starrett combination square (which can be assumed to be square to a high degree of accuracy) and putting the base of the gauge on the ruler and the 90 degree face and see by how much - if at all - the gauge numbers deviate from 90 degrees.

The issue I have with these types of meters is that the X/Y and Z angles interfere with one another, so it seems like you don't get a true measure, because you can never get the Z axis tilt perfectly vertical as not to interfere with the angle you're actually measuring on the other axis. EX: to get a true measure on X or Y you have to first be sure the meter is at zero (or 90 degrees the other way) for axis Z, otherwise X or Y isn't accurate. If you sit it down on your table saw (Axis X/Y) then tilt it slightly backward or forward (Axis Z) the measurement of X/Y axis (your table saw) changes. So for example I was using this to adjust the camber on the front wheels of my car, yet I didn't feel confident about the readings because I had to use a straight edge across the face of my wheel so I had to first be sure one axis (X/Y=wheel rotation) was as close to 00.00 as possible before I measured and adjusted the camber axis (Z). I couldn't figure out which numbers it was reading were the true measurements I was trying for (Z) or interference from the other axis(X/Y) being read also.

I have one, paid $18 for it. Since it's about as accurate as my smart phone, I assume it has the same chip as some smart phones use for games, acceleration, and yes, an inclinometer. The feet on the bottom are a real pain. I'll find a nice flat piece of metal and glue it on to bridge them.

Thanks for a good video. Does the magnet or metal surround will affect the accuracy of this equipment? Thanks

It's MEMS based so it shouldn't be affected.

Yeah, it should work for those applications as long as it's calibrated beforehand.

I came here after watching a Colin Knecht video where he compares two. One like this, one magnet, it switches direction of the display. He found it pretty much unusable. The other has magnets bottom, left and right so the display doesn't have to change direction. He likes it.
@DoresoomReviews
@DoresoomReviews 4 месяца назад
This style is plenty usable - I've never had a problem reading the display. One thing to be mindful of is if you use multiple reference surfaces, you're adding the possibility of increasing your error if they aren't perfectly parallel or perpendicular.

would it work if I stick it on a motorcycle to look at my lean angle?
@DoresoomReviews
@DoresoomReviews 6 лет назад
No, since this uses gravitational acceleration to measure the angle, and when you're in a turn there's a lateral acceleration as well (velocity^2/radius).

hello, I need measure the angle, pdc and sensor in bumpers, its possible?
@johncoops6897

This measures ANGLES. I have no idea what a PDC might be, and there is no way it can test a sensor. Do you mean a bumper car in a fairground? Rubber bumper in a pinball machine? Anyway, this measures angles, that's all.

Has anyone used this for bending electrical for conduit to get precise angles for offsets? If so how well does the magnet stick to the conduit?
@DoresoomReviews
@DoresoomReviews 6 лет назад
I haven't used it for that purpose, but it might be a bit difficult to get this to align properly on conduit. Something with a v-groove on the base would be better suited and easier to use.

How would be able to get the angle on a knife?
@DoresoomReviews
@DoresoomReviews 6 лет назад
You could zero it out on the whetstone, and then place it on the knife blade to gauge the correct sharpening angle. It might be a little tricky for smaller knives though, but should be do-able on larger ones. Of course an actual angle guide meant for knife sharpening would be much easier to use if you have one.

@@DoresoomReviews Thanks. That's good. I don't like the CR batteries if I can avoid them. Besides, I have tons of re-chargable batteries from my photography business. This looks like nice level. I would actually be using it for a large HO model railroad so I can check some steep grades I have on the mainline...and adjust them if I need to. Thanks. Phil

What is the accuracy? It has 2 decimal places. If it’s +-0.01, then that’s 32 arc seconds or half a minute. Oh, you answered that.

I didn't realize your reviews were based on being part of the seed program for HD. Has this information always been in the description of your videos or was it added over the last couple of months? I'm not a fan of review sample reviews, incentivized reviews, seed reviews, etc.. It throws off the ratings of products that don't have reviews and for a long time after until there's more general public reviews than seed reviews. This item on the Home Depot website already has a 5/5 with 17 reviews from seeds only (including yours it looks like). As it's been in the news for the past couple of months, there's compelling data showing that items provided for free or a discount does bias reviewers. It got so out of hand on Amazon, that they had to make an announcement addressing the problem. I enjoy your reviews and it's the reason I originally subscribed to your channel, but I'm not a fan of these programs. They ruin the usefulness of the rating and review systems on websites.
@DoresoomReviews
@DoresoomReviews 7 лет назад
I think I've got a disclaimer posted in every video description with a Seeds item, but it's possible I missed a few early on when my channel was smaller - in fact, I'll go back now and check previous videos to make sure all that need to have them do. The products I review on my channel are a mix of ones I've purchased myself and ones that I received for free to review. I hear you - it's true that incentivized reviews can be skewed with a positive bias - I'm not going to argue that fact. It bugs me too, whenever I see reviewer profiles with all 5 star reviews, because it casts doubt on the trustworthiness of anyone else who may have reviewed the product for free, but gave a truly honest opinion. What I will tell you about me, is that I myself strive for complete honesty. If a product is terrible, I tell it like it is. When I give a recommendation, I ask myself the question, "Would I be happy with this product if I had paid full retail price?" I often take stars off for price points that I think are too high, even though I received the product for free. One thing that differs a bit for Amazon Vine and Home Depot Seeds reviewers vs. the army of incentivized Amazon reviewers, is that the retailers' official programs continue providing products to the reviewers regardless of the ratings provided. I've given plenty of products 1 or 2 star ratings when they deserve it. I also tend to select products to review that I don't think will be total crap, so that may naturally skew my review average higher as well. If you're referring to the ReviewMeta video about incentivized reviews, I think the average they listed for non-incentivized reviews was 4.3, and the one for incentivized reviews was 4.7. My Home Depot review average is somewhere between 4.3 and 4.4 (currently rounded up to 4.4, but it bounces around between the two). You can look at it here if you're interested: reviews.homedepot.com/profiles/1999/212208977/profile.htm (And here's my Amazon one too (www.amazon.com/gp/profile/A2UQO9J7UHAP4F), where I don't have incentivized reviews. Do note that I take quite a bit more purchasing risks on Amazon for items that might be crappy... and I let others know when I think I've bought a crappy item. I did give this item 5 stars on Home Depot, because I thought it deserved it. I've actually used it quite a few more times since reviewing it. One thing I noticed after extended use is that the display is already showing a low battery signal, which may force me to update the text review and knock a star off. Anyway, sorry for writing a book in response. I understand your frustration at biased reviews, and apologize if I misrepresented myself at any point.
@RoloisRight
@RoloisRight 7 лет назад
Doresoom Reviews Thanks for taking the time to respond. Like I mentioned, I enjoy the way you do your reviews and I do think they're more thorough than most, that's not a problem. In regards to the disclaimer, yes, it's on every video that I went back to check which is why I asked about it since I don't remember seeing it on the older videos. The problem I have is with these programs, first party and third party, that flood the rating and review systems. I did watch the video you referred to, but not until I started seeing other sources looking into the matter in the media, which was probably prompted by it. I think your content is great for those that aren't bothered by these programs. It's just not for me.
@DoresoomReviews
@DoresoomReviews 7 лет назад
If you've been a subscriber for over a year or so, there were probably a few videos I went back and added a disclaimer to. When I originally started my RU-vid channel, it was to include supplemental video reviews with my Home Depot written reviews. I figured it was covered, since the disclaimer is there with the written review on the HD website. However, when RU-vid analytics showed me that the majority of my views were coming from search terms and suggested videos and not the Home Depot website, I realized I needed to go back and add it to my individual videos instead of relying on Home Depot for the disclaimer. If it helps any, I can't speak for other reviewers, but I myself report all the products I receive as income, so I end up paying about 20-30% of fair market value in the form of taxes. So I do have some skin in the game when it comes to the quality/value tradeoff.

The hundredths digit isn't full resolution, as it only displays 0 or 5. So it basically tells you if you're on the high or low side of the tenths digit.
@Pro1er
@Pro1er 6 лет назад
You talk a lot about the hundredth digit. Just to let your viewers know, the new version only has one digit past the decimal point. It seems that all of these cheap Chinese digital angle cubes are not square because the case is not machined, so you may never get one that reads 90 degrees when flipped on its side or 0 degrees when turned upside down.
@DoresoomReviews

the one that I just purchased.. it cost 7 dollars with included delivery from China to Denmark. that read 90.00 when laid on the site, and Im pretty sure this is the cheapest of the cheapest.(a hard black plastic square housing with 4 button onoff - unit - calibrate - hold - and a big magnetic solid metal bottom.. it also turns the digits around when upside down, though i don't think it got a backlight. how it handle the last digit of 00.0(0) time will tell. (not sure yet) but at 7 dollars its difficult to rant.. just shipping here regionally inside Denmark cost 8USD so mindblowing prices they can make these units for and sell them and ship them and still make a profit..
