Randy presents some valuable information on different aspects of what it takes to accurize a factory rifle, or build a superior custom rifle. Because of many calls and emails he delves deeply into why there are some inaccuracies with some calibers, and what needs to be done.
As well as talking about the different aspects that goes into seeing to every detail to make a rifle as accurate as possible, Randy goes over different reasons there are spec issues in certain calibers, what needs to be watched for and what can be done.
Thank you for your viewing. May you all be blessed as we have been blessed by you.

Mr. Selby's work is outstanding. He rebarreled a 378 Weatherby for me with a Hart Barrel. When I got it home I Loaded up three rounds at -5% of estimated target load, to establish initial volumetric measurement after firing, and it shot minute of angle at 200 Yards right out of the gate with those three rounds. The load workup was a breeze from that point on. Thank you sir.

I learned about this kind of situation a number of years ago. I ordered a barrel for my Encore in 30/06 Ackley Improved from the TC custom shop. No longer in existence. Well I was having some trouble forming brass and took it to my gunsmith. He checked it and told me that the headspace was too long. He told me that the go gauge for 30/06 becomes the no go gauge for the Ackley version. Well it swallowed that gauge by about 0.015. He told me to contact a fellow who made shim kits to be placed inside the firing pin bushing that would correct the excess headspace. All has been fine ever since. I was glad to see Randy talk about this. People need to know that this kind of thing is possible.

big brother Selby... that topic of posterity and integrity... of principal especially in standards of conduct in industry... has been bit of a focus of my life.... .... seems to me... .. respect for those things is one of the most important things we can do for the future of the unborn... .. for the true value of any honor we may have attributed to our own existence. I have stressed quite a lot over the years as a machinist... in wrestling with the careless psychology of others... ... I do comprehend there are circumstances where maintaining integrity in industry can be very challenging... a lot of us work a lot of hours for very little pay and in extremely dangerous circumstances.. .. the owners of most industry belittle and seek to use litmus tests to destroy their workers to validate avoiding an obligation to pay a wage and put harmony into the existence of integrity....... there were very few employers who realized it was a literal obligation to keep the land lords in check so their wages could actually serve... .... it is a great big huge topic... There has been a great deal of media programing that psychologically predisposed our workforce to "not care"... and influences from other nations who were programed similarly but far more harshly contributed to the loss of respect for standards, integrity, and posterity in industry.... and yes, from what i can see you are most certainly right. Tolerance is a big thing you know.... I work the Oil and Gas industry..and i try to be pretty hard core for my pay range when it comes to accuracy ... i have seen some who are pretty careless... saying will it work?,, well yes it will work... but but when it comes to accuracy rifles or very high pressure vessles, or incredibly expensive components doing work that can cost over a million dollars a day if it's down.... .. posterity counts...integrity is everything... there is no room for fudging the numbers .. failure to respect this could put a thousand people out of house and home.... and possibly get a few killed. our job ... as far as i can see... as men...... is to take care of the unborn...to build a better world for them.. to prepare their parents to do the same, and so on.... and that is very unlikely to be done.... .. with a careless attitude when it comes to maintaining the principle of standards and integrity in industry. Day to day we get tired, we are mostly poor folk, being tempted and abused by cheap lazy careless thieves... but God... and the laws of physics he created... requires it of us... . regardless. the integrity of the working man.... is the only thing there.... for the unborn... as far as i can see.

Pac-Nor (Pacific Northwest) barreling Inc. will chamber a barrel to a specific ogive of a specific bullet and land relationship. I chose a polygonal profile chambered in 260 Rem.-AI, and Hornady's 143 gn. ELD-X at my Ruger M77's 2.92" mag. length; with max. OAL measured off the ogive, and in soft contact with the lands. With this setup, I can also seat the 140 gn. Nosler Partition the same way as it has enough bearing surface and without exceeding mag. length. Randy, I know you detest cup and draw; but with all due respect, I believe there are exceptions, such as with milder cartridges like the 260 Rem., and... as long as you know and respect the minimum distance/ terminal velocity to stay away from- The box says 2,660 fps. max. velocity; in my 260AI, that's right @my 200 yard zero. Whenever I enter terrain with shorter ranges, I switch to the 140 gn. Nosler Partition.

bedding, cartridge case neck tension, Spherical powder and magnum primers turned my .30-06 Winchester M70 into a take driver. You're worried about a barrel that isn't quite exact in groove dimensions?...... copper foul it to a point and leave it fouled !! LOL Randy mentioned in another video about stress relieved bedding. Torque the action screws evenly yes, I use blue removable lock tite, not to crank to tight to cause stress on the action/stock. Disagree with VLD bullets and throat dimensions.... as long as the magazine will accept them and they load through the mag without hitting the ramp in the action your fine otherwise you have to use a shorter bullet. Any factory rifle I own or owned has a short throat or freebore and even short bullets can be loaded out further to reach even a eroded throat. Even a "Real" gunsmith, which Randy is and I see he takes pride in his work, is still a stickler and has his own methods. Would I rather have a tigher barrel dimensionally? I have what I have, and what I can afford. Some others can afford to pay the stickler. SAMMI? Standards.... for safety. Weatherby, has long throats, for safety. Safety is first because people are sloppy. People are sloppy with handling alot of things. That's why inspectors are necessary during construction. Using winchester brass in a WInchester? Now I heard everything. LOL LOL You build benchrest rifles too ? LOL I have Remington brass in my winchester that got me under a half an inch group.

Ms. Cathy, thank you for making these videos possible. Mr. Randy, I appreciate a man who gets straight to the point, then tells the truth. That is a mark of a man who has character. My question if you will be willing to endure one, is about drilling holes to install iron sights on my factory rifles that came without them. Would I be just as well off to level the action and clamp down in my industrial drill press to drill the holes, or should I order a purpose built jig? Is there one that you reccomend? Hello Randy, great video as usual. I have a question about what I've seen over several years of loading and shooting. Why, in almost every 308 win , are the throats so long in a factory chambering. About every one of the 308 bolt guns, regardless of the manufacturer, the throats are so long that when seating for the proper bullet jump, the COL is longer than the magazine well? I've never understood this. Again, what I've seen this in mainly is in the 308 Winchester.
