These are fighting guns, period. The Tavor and X95 fit very well in the likely urban combat environments the Israelis would find themselves in. Neither an M4 or an X95 need too hold nickel size groups. They just need to be able to put rounds on torsos at 200m or closer, end of story.

Love the video MAC! I know for some people, seeing that kind of difference in accuracy can lead to rash decision making (like some of the comments here, implying that worse accuracy than an M4 = worthless). I have always loved the M4 platform and it is an incredible rifle. I hope it will continue to be America's Rifle for many years to come, and if I need to reach out past a couple hundred yards it is absolutely my go to rifle. However, I didn't purchase my X95 to be a 500 yard tack driver. If 3/4 of an inch is all I'm giving up in a package that is much more suitable for turning corners and close acquisition, then I still say its worth the money. Thanks again for taking the time to put together videos like this!

I love the ergonomics. I bought an X95 because of how fluid it felt in my shoulder. Besides, I had plenty of time with the M4 while in the Marines. The X95 is new and exciting compared to just another near identical AR.

Same. I liked the challenge of a new way of shooting. After so long with the M4 platform you just need a change.

MAC, thanks for this very honest review. This is why I subscribed to you in the first place years ago. It's nice to see fancy stuff from industry, as you seem to have become the go-to guy for these manufacturers to showcase their newest innovation and products, but please keep your original style and the honest integrity, which I highly respect.

You should try rapid firing the X95 and then shooting a set of groups with the barrel already hot. It seems like it's reasonably accurate cold and tightens up once it's hot, but seems to be less accurate while it's getting up to temperature. I wonder if you'd see better groups with an already-hot barrel.

Best group with mine so far was wolf steel case 55 grain, 1.89". Pmc shot about 5". The variation between ammo is mind boggling considering the twist rate. Loving your videos MAC, glad you have the time on your hands.

Love your videos Mac! I am a huge fan of my x95, and im seeing all these people complain about how an AR shoots better and more accurate than the x95. What alot of people dont understand is that this gun is used and designed for CQB and is used at its best when your on the move and trying to get follow up shots. It is more mobile, easier to control, and can be easier/faster/more accurate when putting MULTIPLE rounds on target wile moving or wile in combat because of its controlability. Id love to see you show a accuracy test on this by making a video shooting free handed standing up and moving at targets between 20 and 100 yards with the x95 and AR. It would be great for everyone to see its real world use vs an AR. Just an idea for you because I am a huge fan of your videos, you do a great job at explaining to your viewers, and i feel like you would do a great job at making this video vs anyone else!!

For those complaining about price difference, the channel is called military arms channel not "civilian prices arms channel", therefore comparing two standard issue military firearms is completely fair no matter the price for us civilians. People have always compared the AR-15 and Ak47 despite the vast price difference there once was.

I own both the X95 and the Tavor 7. I like the ergonomics a lot and am getting consistent 1.5 to 2 MOA at 100 yards. I have the M21 with the corresponding magnifier on the X95...and I mounted a blackhound 3x18x50 scope on the Tavor with a Atlas bipod. Taking them out to the range again soon to make sure everything is dialed in.

the thing that makes these rifles is the fact that the weight is so well balanced, try holding an ar 15 from a standing position for any length of time an then hold one of the tavors. even though the tavor is heavier it still feels lighter

I have an x-95 and have shot way better groups with iron sights at 100 yards. not sure what was going on in this video. and I have no favorite between the AR and the x95. if you ask me what gun I would prefer to take into battle, I'd have to say the x95. don't know about any of you guys, but I never shot off a bench rest in combat. and the x95 is not a bench gun. The x95 is far better at accuracy running, moving and shooting. and keep in mind..... people are generally not used to, and not comfortable, shooting a bullpup like they are an AR. i was not as accurate with an AK either when I first started shooting them. now, I can run my AK as wellas my AR. and it's the same with a bullpup. I can run it as well as I can the AK and AR.....simply because I shoot it as much as the others. for me, not sure why they were getting such wild groups with the x95, but my experience has been different. just my 2 cents guys. but quick making these broad generalizations of a gun from 1 video. especially when you've never even shot one!!

I researched AR-15’s for about a year before buying a Colt LE6940 with a 16” barrel because it was as close to a M4A1 as I could get and was Mil spec. I have owned the rifle for seven years now with about 2200 rounds thru it. Extremely reliable (hunt coyotes and Antelope in dirt and sand), best groups around 1.25” with hand loaded 77gr Sierra Match Kings. The only thing I have replaced is the trigger (now 2-stage) and the butt stock (now Magpul CTR). Note that Mac's "Data Point" is not correct. Mean radius is a completly different from MOA. It's like comparing apples to oranges. You can have a group with a mean (average) radius of 2" which would measure over 6" in diameter (6 MOA). Do the math with any group with a flyer and you will see what I mean.
@americais1532

But the point is it's still significantly less accurate than an AR15. At least my AR15.

my x95 loves extremely light loads and extremely heavy. I drilled out the backside of some 55 grain bullets and got them down to 47 grains before putting the extracted bullets back on unmodified charges and cases and got my way down to 1.5 moa. heavy loads I used small tungsten rods and got the weight up to 85 grains. 1.5 moa. 55-79 I'm looking at 3-5 inches. Heat does easily affect group size though no matter the load, once ten rounds go through it spreads

I have a Tavor which is identical to the X95 internally. I find my Tavor far more reliable then my Daniel Defense V9 and my personal builds. I think reliability also plays a vital role here when testing the M4 and Tavor/X95. I think that would make an awesome video and seal the deal on this discussion. Thanks for the reviews.

Comment on practical accuracy and a suggestion. Magnified optics on non-MOA guns leads to frowning faces. 3 MOA red dot in riser for good check weld. Zero scope between cold and hot barreled groups. Hit all day on practical targets. I did this with a Waffen Werks AK-54r with good results. Zeroed a coworker's Tavor with similar red dot with same results. Love your channel too!

The possible POI shift is a bigger concern than group size. I understand the service to service rifle comparo but most folks will think of a $ to $ comparison where the X95 (as well as others) will come short accuracy wise to an equivalent $ AR. This is an accuracy shootout so we're not considering other factors.

After reading the comments, I think a "Is a bullpup worth it" video would be really cool. Comparing the AR, AK, and the most popular bull pup designs. Really testing out the theory of having a longer barrel in the shorter package. Comparing accuracy, reliability, cost, modularity. velocity increase, maneuverability, etc.

'Just from gunsmithing point' I would love to see you take a sensor/camera to record where the heat is building up minus the barrel. Since what strikes me is that considering what kinda 'elements' that rifle is build to last/be in I cant understand the heat be a such a big problem.. I can be wrong ofcourse, but I would be supprised that IWI would create a weapon that looses accuracy when heating up a bit.

With cold bore shots with my Tavor, I manged to get 3 shot penny sized groups. I used PMC 55 gr and Hornady 75 gr BTHP. When I shot with the barrel a lot hotter, I got grapefruit sized groups. Around 3-4 MOA. Seems like both bullpups show the tendency to open on on a hot barrel.

Haven’t shot mine yet. But I think the x 95 sacrifice of a tiny amount of accuracy is worth the gains for the intended use for this weapon. Your gaining a very reliable gas piston system and a compact well balanced rifle with a full length barre perfect for vehicle work, and urban work. If you want a DMR you should definitely look at something else. I Wouldn’t even mount a scope on this thing. Maybe a magnifier for red dot, if I’m feeling frisky. But for 300yrd plus not the best tool. This rifle is better served replacing a 10.5 in AR pistol

I bought an X95 exactly a year ago to replace my Colt MRR due to our idiot prime minister here in Canada. I loved my AR as it was an absolute tack driver, but since it's becoming scrap metal soon and im no longer legally allowed to shoot it, I had to get used to my X95. I love the ergonomics of it and I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one having issues with groupings. I just couldn't understand why I was so off target.

I disagree that it is unfair to compare the X95 to a BCM that you can get for the same money. How could it not be fair to compare 2 rifles in the same caliber that cost the same? Isn't that actually the most fair comparison possible?
@Militaryarmschannel
@Militaryarmschannel 8 лет назад
+Cole Dedhand It's a comparison between military service rifles, I don't believe BCM has been adopted by any militaries.
@ColeDedhand
@ColeDedhand 8 лет назад
You're applying an irrelevant condition to the comparison. Neither the X95 nor the Colt used in your test are military rifles. They are rifles built and sold for civilians. So it is fair to compare either to any civilian rifle. That's you and me. Civilians. We're not a military. We're not stuck using what the military uses (even if these were actually military rifles, which they are not).
@Militaryarmschannel
@Militaryarmschannel 8 лет назад
+Cole Dedhand They are as close as we can get given US law. If you want to do a comparison, go buy the rifles you want to compare and do it any way you see fit. This is the "military arms channel" and I discuss military firearms. If that's not to your liking there are plenty of other channels that discuss other types of firearms which may tickle your fancy.

Question without the ring on the X95 isn't it essentially a free float barrel so why couldn't you use a free float rail on the M4? Seems like that would aid in the accuracy of the X95 even though it was less accurate.

I collect military issue firearms, and my #1 requirement at the range is reliability. The X95 is enjoyable to shoot and is unique. For accuracy and all that? I have AR15s and others. Not every rifle has to be a DMR. If that were the case, then one would find the most accurate gun for them and only own that 1. For me, and others like me, diversity and fun are also factors. Oh well, looks like IWI is no longer the darling of the internet hehe.

In response to those griping over the comparison method and results... Don't believe he was attempting to diagnosis the cause of why one is more accurate than the other. Mechanically speaking: The Dodge Challenger Hellcat and Nissan GTR are both capable of a 11.2 second quarter mile. In reality: A average driver in a Nissan GTR in automatic mode with launch control and AWD will consistently achieve a quarter mile time closer to the theoretical capability of the vehicle. The average driver in a Challenger Hellcat with a Manual transmission will consistently lose traction 1st-3rd gear and miss the theoretical capability by a very large margin. The fans of the Hellcat will fight and argue what the theoretical capabilities are and cite that the Hellcat only lost to the GTR because X, Y, Z. All reasons are irrelevant. The customer is not part of the R&D department and are not responsible for diagnosing and correcting design flaws which affect the performance of the device. This is not to say that the Hellcat does not achieve desired results - the same way the X95 still has acceptable combat accuracy. That's not the point of this test. Both may have passed the test but one achieved a "A+ and the other a "B-". People get far too caught up on what a mechanical thing can theoretically do that they often dismiss the ability to reliably/consistently achieve the theoretical results. Regardless of the reasons. Was the AR15 reliably/consistently more accurate than the X95 regardless of the operator. Yes. The same people stressing the fact that the X95 has acceptable combat accuracy are ignoring the fact that military rifles will be issued to a large group of users with a huge variation in skill and technique. With this in mind...The AR15 is a more viable combat service rifle. Let's also bring up the fact that the $1,900 X95 was being compared to an AR15 which you find on gunbroker for a buyitnow price below $1,000.

I contacted IWI and asked if the Tavor 9mm conversion kit was compatible with the X95 and was told it was not. The X95 has different barrel attachment points. Perhaps these different attachment points are imputing stress on the barrel after it heats up (thermal expansion) causing the impact shift. I also would like to see a comparison test between the original Tavor and the X95.

cost is dependent on what you value. if you value sub 1 moa out to 500 meters but isn't very durable, then by all means drop the 2000 on a sniper. if you want a battle tested, combat rifle that has SBR size and is one of the most durable rifles out there but shoots a 3 moa out to 500 yards, then get the tavor. in a home defense/shtf situation, you will never need to shoot past 100 meters..... but whatever helps you sleep at night

The OTM 77 grain shoots well as does the 69 grain PPU. 62 gr HP Wolf seems to be cheapest stuff that will stay under three inches. The green tip just sucks sometimes running over six inches for no good reason. IMI made green tip is much better. The rifle is just a little tougher to shoot well than with other rifles. It seems to exaggerate mistakes kinda like a snub nosed .38 is less accurate than a 4' barrel service revolver. Accuracy is only fair, but in a street fight, fair is fine.

Here's something to consider. Yesterday shot with a friend who was using a newer Henry 45-70 lever gun. His average group, free standing with hard cast lead (300 gr) bullets was around 3 1/2' - 4". Bench rested, you don't want to know ( 2"). Not bad for iron sights on a gun that an old cowboy would love. Pretty good firepower too. Nice wood and all steel vs stamped out sheet metal and plastic. Kicker. About $700.00 vs $2000.00 - $3000.00 for the decked out plastic wonders.

Would have loved to see you throw the Tavor into the mix as well. It seems very strange that the x95 isn't as accurate as the Tavor when they share so many of the same major parts.

Can you do a test with the X95 with the Geissele bow and trigger pack and see what effect that has on the groups?
@bcgunner9324
@bcgunner9324 5 лет назад
This is certainly due to how the barrels are mounted to the receiver. The AR15 mounts far far better.. more solid. You can't take the barrel out of the AR15 receiver with a wrench and 30 seconds of removing plastic. So you gain some modularity and ease of maintenance, but lose some small amount of accuracy.

I get 1-3/4 to 2-1/2 groups at 100 meters all day. But then again I do have the sabra trigger. I think a medium to heavy barrel would do this rifle more justice.

Wonder how the X95 will perform once its SBR-parts are out and you can get that Israeli military X95 barrel-type and barrel-length, associated furniture (trigger-guard grip vs hand-guard grip, short forend with hand-stop etc), and the top-rail. On the topic of the rail, wonder if the X95 is suffering from the same as the ARX did.. which could explain inconsistency in groups.

My main complaint is the price of the X95. For the performance, IMO it isn't worth the extra cost over an AR15. If it was a$1k rifle I'd jump all over it.

Fair decision. But remember, you are comparing a new design that just hit the market to a 50 year old design. The r&d cost for the AR platform was recouped decades ago. Also, the AR15 was prohibitively expensive with poor accuracy and other faults when Colt first released it. Like with any new platform, it takes time, trial, and creative designs to fix the faults of a design and bring out the best a firearm can give.

+Roushlamn You really should consider the fact that now more than ever, guns are incorporating criticisms and features of other guns into their builds. And ontop of that, the AR platform has basically become the testing bed for almost everything you can do with/to a firearm. Gun designers do look at the competition and take what they want from it, and adjust what they aren't happy with. Aside from J M Browning and some of his peers, there has been little from-the-ground-up innovation in firearm development.

I agree with the statement made regarding bullpups. Unless you've trained on them or have been raised shooting them, they are an acquired taste. For me, having been behind the trigger of the AR15 since 1979 and the A2 from 85 to 89, plus all of the after market AR's since then, its ingrained! Nothing else has the same feel and comfort as the AR platform. Great video and thanks again!

I have an AR15 16 inch government carbine and it shoots the Silver bear 62 grain hollow points the best with consistent 1 inch groups at 100 yards. I've tried Hornady match 69 grain and many other brands and weights which can vary from 1 1/2 inch to 3 inch groups. Try Silver bear and see what you get.

It would nice the X95 vs Tavor original to see if the additional compactness is the only advantage or disadvantage. If the Tavor has better consistency, then the compactness is a disadvantage.
@atilliar
@atilliar 8 лет назад
The standard civilian versions are almost the same as far as compactness goes. They both have to meet US import and NFA regulations. The actual military version of the X95 is more compact with a shorter butt pad and 13" or 13.5" (can't remember which) barrel, but for the US both have to meet overall length and barrel length requirements.

+Robert Jansen I agree with that. It's hard to beat a reasonable quality AR & it's really hard to beat a high end AR. I built an AR with a Daniel Defense barrel, A Sharps BCG, a Vltor A5 buffer system & Magpul furniture. It's very reliable, it's accurate & it cost well under 1/2 of what an X95 cost. It's good to try new things, that's where innovation comes from but I just haven't found anything I like better than a quality AR. No doubt, eventually there will be a revolutionary new design that beats the AR but that day isn't here yet.

Awesome information to say the least. I understand that your comparing these two rifles as close as they would be used on the battlefield, however you must admit that the X95 should be producing far better groups at 2000$ price point. I understand that your not comparing the two weapons considering the price points, but it surely can be noted. Furthermore, you had mentioned that you have had your Colt for many years. How many thousands of rounds have put through your AR15? How many through the X95? Is it possible that a Colt with a fresh barrel can yield even tighter groups?

Thanks for the videos. I just bought an X95 yesterday or rather I bought the rifle and a 10 day wait. Freaking CA.. Local ranges are short. I have to head to the hills to get some long range fun so it will be interesting to see the differences. Researching ammo now. I didn't go AR because I have an M16 service weapon and wanted something different but I will pick up an AR early next year if CA hasn't figured out how to ban triggers as the ultimate evil feature.....

We live in a Society that depends , trains, and uses the AR15, the Tavor isn't to be confused with an AR15. What I'm saying is you should adapt to the Tavor before comparing it to a totally different platform. You only confuse eye hand memory and coordination by training and comparing both. Most people hate the factory trigger on the Tavor. When you find yourself loving it's trigger, you will be adapted. Once your adapted, your accurate. It truly is a great trigger

You mention ergonomics which I think plays a factor like you say, but I think there is a little more to it. I don't have the X95 but have the Tavor. Compared to an AR-15 it does not seem as accurate. I don't think it is necessarily that the gun is less accurate, but the gun/man system together is less accurate because the distance from the shoulder to the barrel tip is shorter or the overall length. Even on your rest the distance from your shoulder to the rest is much shorter on the bullpup. Any small variation with the shooters body produces a greater error with the shorter platform. I think a more fair comparison would be other bullpups, or move the rest to equal distance from the buttstock.

I'm ignorant to the XM or Tavor but I love my PS-90 & AR-15s. For guns that are built in bullpup configs to be more ergonomic it is surprising to hear that the AR-15 is more so. As always great video & please keep up the good work.

No bullpup experience here and I’m not sure there ever will be. Depends on if someone will let me shoot theirs. However, I do have a Colt 6920. I have not had a scope on it for very long and normally shoot cheap range ammo, but the other day I was shooting some of my cheap range ammo at 100 yards and not really getting groups. Just all over the place. Then I tried some PPU ammo. All went into the 1" circle minus one flyer. Both were 55 grain FMJ. I have some of that Wolf Gold on a UPS truck now and am curious as to how it performs. This with stock trigger. Have Geissele SSA sitting here waiting for installation. Tight groups with an AR probably isn’t necessary as the Military requirements show, but it’s the challenge.

Why not do an accuracy test of the Tavor vs the X95 since the X95 is the next evolution of the Tavor? If the gun shot consistent groups at 2" I think people would be perfectly fine with how the gun shoots and there wouldn't be a big stink over it. However, the inconsistencies in group sizes are quite disconcerting. If you can't know your weapon, you cannot use it effectively.

The thing is, what its "peers" are is sort of an open question. If you're talking peers by military issued rifles, I agree with comparing it to the Colt. But the reality is most people here are buying this on the civilian market; they're not being issued the rifle. To me "peers" then becomes more a matter of street price. If you look at it that way, even a BCM can be had for a few hundred less than the X95.
