The dentist should reassure the patient calmly about their decision to not give them pain pills and over the counter medication instead. She should kindly dismiss the patient and try to calm the patient. Once she verified the patient is not a abuser by checking prescription history, she may give the patient a few days worth of pills for the patient if the patient is still unwilling to accept the over the counter meds. This scenario basically tests how you can handle under pressure and work out a logical solution

I would first assure the patient that I am not trying to pressure him or do anything against his will, but seeing his condition like this, it’s best to get the work done today because your oral health is linked to your overall health, and if tooth decay goes untreated, the bacteria that causes it can get into your bloodstream, and can cause problems such as heart attack or stroke.
