I am reviewing an ACD Unlimited drive shave for my Axis Percussion bass drum pedal. My left pedal was slipping causing issues while I was drumming and figured I would give this a shot.
These drive shafts feel amazing and Dennis from ACD makes them for Axis, Tama Pearl, Mapex, DW, Trick etc. If you play double bass and have an issue with the shaft I highly recommend these.

Question brother? does it have the same insertion/connector just like the z-link?

This is already from 2018. Are you still using them? They passed the test of time? Thanks. Cheers!

One thing I would love for your videos: some better lighting, they are very dark.

I will work on that. This one is extra bad. Thanks for the input.

How u play with ur snare so low? I'd guess ur not playing rimshots. Where do ya find them driveshafts & how much they cost, thanks
@beyondbetrayal
@beyondbetrayal 2 года назад
I'm always adjusting my kit. My snare height changes daily lol. I don't do a ton of rim shots usually though as I play too fast for it to be effective usually. If I play rock or slower stuff my snare is always higher. ACD unlimited have a website. I forget the price but they were more than a new axis shaft. They are super solid though. I did find its the round ends on the axis pedal that cause it to slip and it didn't totally solve my issue.

heyy cool quick review there, dunno why ppl even build round drive shafts of course they are gonna twist xD also do you have any tips or tricks on how to make cymbals sound less crashing-aggressive while playing? hitting them lighter for sure but maybe there are some additional methods to go :)
@beyondbetrayal
@beyondbetrayal 5 лет назад
I have actualy been working on this. Lighter sticks, hitting lighter, angle them more so your not hitting the edge. these are all things that are good to work on. Other options are buying warmer sounding cymbals, or putting some gaff tape on the bottom, or a little moon gel/buzz kill on the top. (those will dry them out and kill some of the sustain) The best bet is to be conscious of how hard your hitting. Start from the ground up.. Bass drum you hit the hardest, then floor tom and snare, then as you go up you hold back a bit more all the way up to the crash cymbals.. I'd say 90% of drummers crash too hard (myself included) Once you work on holding back the energy concerved is amazing, and you don't break as many sticks of cymbals. Plus it just sounds better and less harsh.

Quick question,I’m moving to direct drive pedals axis or demon drive I play rock .and thank you for your videos
@beyondbetrayal

I would highly suggest going to the store and trying them both out as they feel quite different. I don't buy any drum gear untested if I can get away with it. I have been playing Axis for many years. They are extremely fast. The demons are pretty good also. You can't go wrong with either.

I have Axis 21 pedals. they play really well, but I find them to be poorly manufactured. There are several issues and therefore I wouldn't buy them again. I would rather go for ACD Unlimited Darwin FTW, Trick or Carczie Kopyto.

How’s it working out for you? I just ordered one for my axis, sick and tired of the drive shaft and slipping and it’s not even the original shaft that came with it. I have another one for my tamas and mapex pedals and I love it. Makes it so much more powerful and responsive.
@beyondbetrayal
@beyondbetrayal 5 лет назад
It's a tank. My issue is the hex bolts on the axis pedals don't line up properly so i need to find a good way to keep the pedal heights even.

Great video. I’m not a great double bass player as I have nerve damage to my left leg due to spinal injury but I like to play it. I just received my Tama 910 and I’m considering upgrading the drive shaft. I’m trying to decide between this one and the trick drive shaft. Any updates on how this one you have is holding up? Great blast beats too man!!!! Loved the video
@beyondbetrayal
@beyondbetrayal 3 года назад
It has held up great, the only issue is the round connecters on the axis connecting pieces. If they ever redesign that I'd buy new pedals lol .

just one question want to ask if really the acd ultimate drive shaft is no play because i want to order because the axis drive shaft for me is really good because its zero lag how do you compare the two drive shaft
@beyondbetrayal
@beyondbetrayal 5 лет назад
They are both really good. I have only had this for one day so I will know more in a few months. Over time I know the Axis ones get a bit loose in the ends but when they are new they are very good also. I think they would probibly be similar to start. Long term will be the real test. There is defiantly no play in the ACD, but it does cost more also.

@@beyondbetrayal I just want to mention that the Axis driveshaft can be tightened up if any slack develops in the universal joints. Using a heat gun (or even an open oven or stove-top burner), warm up the problem universal joint and ever so slightly tighten the allen hex bolts holding the joints together (test movement in all directions with hand, as you don't want to over-tighten these). Once it cools, repack the joints (as they're an open ball-bearing design) with fresh white lithium grease, and it feels new again. Periodically packing those joints with the white lithium grease helps cut down on the wear and tear, but this fixes it if slack does develop.
@beyondbetrayal
@beyondbetrayal 5 лет назад
@@corpsepenis Oh ya, I've even order cube bearings from Axis and replaced them. Used the heat gun to fix the joints etc. Changed setscrews. You name it.

I just bought the Trick drive shaft for my DW 9000. I’m wondering if ACD will do a direct drive conversion for the 9000.

@@a.e.m.2841 no problem buddy. I'd highly recommend the ACD shaft. The quality is really good. He sells beaters, weights and all kinds of stuff. Plus he's a super nice guy. Let me know how it goes. The only negative I can think of is the exchange rate. The Canadian dollar did not help me on the transaction lol.

Feels solid, doesn't slip. I like it. I'm having some issues with my setup at the moment as my number 1 piece on the axis never lined up right so i need to fix that first.

beyondbetrayal hi...how about this acd drive shaft after 2years of use? Does it still solid and have no slack?
@antondubkov
@antondubkov 3 года назад
Can't believe Axis driveshaft can twist. ALL other manufacturers make keyed driveshafts, didn't realize a $1000 pedal would have this ridiculous problem
@beyondbetrayal
@beyondbetrayal 3 года назад
Well, it has more to do with the pedal. It requires the shaft. I found with the locked ACD one, it won't twist, but it also doesn't line up properly. The axis you can line up then lock it in. Now, if they had a right beater adjustment you could use the shaft for the left to control beater distance. so it actually SOLVES half of a problem. but only half.

@@beyondbetrayal that is so weird :) (the axis pedals and their peculiarities, I mean). Anyway thanks for the answer. PS. your heel toe tutorials are among the best on youtube!
