Ace Combat 5's final mission is a good display of everything people love about it. Aside from the overcast weather, this mission is absolutely beautiful from every aesthetic point of view. The music, the dialogue, the rising sun, the SOLG diving down to earth - and the task at hand itself. It's downright gorgeous. It's not a mission to rival Megalith or Zero, no, and it falters much in the same way the rest of the game goes - but I don't need to say that again. It plays to both its weaknesses and its strengths - The Unsung War is the perfect ending for an imperfect game.
Of course, it feels even more barren after we've seen ACI's SOLG, but the same can be said for any mission remade in ACI - it really did a good job of humbling the PS2's games in terms of scale, if only to lock their take behind a paywall and forced multiplayer. But wouldn't you like to see those as Ace of Aces missions for any classic game :)
PS: The Tomcat doesn't fit. I tried.
