@@401RISaint "on" the eyes. That's the term. Anyway, as a woke liberal jagoff, I have to also point out that the one on the right is wearing what appears to be some semblance of Native American wear, and needs to be cancelled because she's White.
This one was huge and when The Sign came out a few months later that was even bigger. This is one of the last cassette tapes I bought before switching over to CDs permanently
@@seanl7856 So what? does that make it a great song? At that time Nick Cave wrote some really great song and less people heard it but that doesn't make Ace of Base better musicians and lyricists that Nick Cave.
I was 13 yrs old sitting with my dad watching top of the pops. I said Dad, i bet that will be No.1 in a week. It never was No.1. My Dad died in 2022 of cancer and the only thing we ever agreed on was the brown haired lassie was a darlin. Great tune
It may comfort you to know that in lots of countries, including the UK, Germany and Spain, it did reach Number 1: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/All_That_She_Wants
Next time I am doing karaoke and I get to the uncomfortably long instrumental section that I had forgotten was there, I will pull out the dance moves I have learned from this video. The crowd will instantly realize that I am the most awesome person ever to grace that bar!
The brunette one is so insanely hot. The producer of this clip obviously recognised this fact, because she gets the vast majority of screen time. My God, what a babe... 😳💞
they were both really hot, and what was always weird to me was that back when they were popular, nobody talked about how hot they were. i felt like that john travolta gif.
Yep, being a kid in the 80s and a young adult in the 90s was amazing, so much new and amazing stuff all the time and the stuff being produced were still of quality 👍
@@MattnUska Same, when I was listening to it earlier I was like damn, this song is dark. Isn't that the case with so much pop music? It's like the song Hey Ya by Outkast. It was a song I never listened to much and one day my cousin was telling me about what Andre 3000 was actually talking about in the song. I'm not a lyrics person, I'm a melody person, so a lot of these dark pop songs will get lost on me, but if you take the time to actually hear what they were saying it changes the whole dynamic. The poppy beats distract us from the real meaning.
@@jebclang9403 Well, I don't like to glorify the past like it was so much better. I have fond memories as a kid but I don't care for people glorifying the past as if it's better than the now because that's when they had the most fun.
Every bar/club I attend that has a jukebox, I always load up this song and "I saw the sign". I highly encourage everyone else to do the same. Reactions are priceless. Well worth the $2-$5 per song.
OMG! I love so much this song, but I'd never seen them. I was amazed when the blonde girl started singing, but then comes the brown hair girl and I've totally fallen in love. Her voice is amazing!!!! Both are so good and I really love this song !
I went to their concert in my hometown. This was not that many years after their peak popularity. There were only about 50 people present! This was still in the 90s! It was so surreal. Here was one of the most popular bands in the world, and they were performing on a small stage, in a boat marina in a town where no more than 5000 people lives! What is more surreal, is that Boney M was having a concert the next day on the same stage, with about the same number of people in the crowd! The only difference is that Ace of Base had a young crowd and Boney M had an older crowd. So bizarre! Whenever I think back and reflect on it, it's like I've had some kind of weird dream, except it was real.
I was a little kid and I remember being totally obsessed with this song, I recorded it from the radio on a cassette and I played it many times 😅 (spoiler, I still love it)
I remember the first time I heard this music, and was just floored. Then I saw the videos, the spectacularly beautiful lady singers. What an amazing group!
The 90s was a decade that began with the end of the Cold War, spawned the Internet, and ended with the optimism of a new millennium. Of course there is never an end to the destruction and suffering experienced all over the world, but for a brief moment in time, it felt like maybe things were going to start getting better.
that is just sad. in this video they are wearing culturally appropriated First Nations inspired clothing. the radio stations of Montreal should do better than promoting white supremacist bands like this
I grew up in the suburbs of Lyon, France in the 90's and one of my favourite song by any band was that one. I was born in 1988 but thanks to my sister who had so many albums,m thanks to my mum who bought the ace of base album and so many more. It's very hard to describe but when small I could imagine colors while listening and also could feel the same as when you are falling in love. Music definitely was pure compare to now.
It was on this day that I realized I have NEVER seen a live AofB performance…. Love them as much as I may, their stage act is like that of a middle school talent show, lol.
@@hosoiarchives4858usually when singer lip sync these days it's bcs they're dancing a lot. This "dance" was hysterical and definitely NOT a reason to lip sync. Still love their songs though 😅
Indeed. Their success was a complete and utter mystery. They would be given the time of day, today, unless they accidentally started trending on tik tok.
Phases I went through - Ace of Base are cool! - Ace of Base... I admit I danced to it as a kid, but now I'm listening to real music - ABBA... haha, those folks in embarassing costumes. Old disco music - Wait, ABBA is pretty cool. The composition. The singing... - ABBA are total geniuses! Can't get enough of it! - Ace of Base plays again - brings back memories - Wait, Ace of Base are actually very good! - Love 'em all and treasure the gifts of their music forever
Amazing isn’t it? Sounds actually EXACTLY like the record. Even the background vocals coming through with nobody singing on a mic and they can even fade out live like in a studio.
Watching this made me go down a google rabbit hole, and I learnt that the two girls are sisters! Their brother and a friend made up the rest of the band.
Over here in Ireland I went into hospital with a burst stomach ulcer I was in there for 9 days and they only had two radio stations and they used to play Ace of Base every day and two beautiful girls made me get better ♥️👍🇮🇪
Maybe it was ironically, but metalheads who grew up in the 90s loved this kind of stuff; Ace of Base, Technotronics, Scatman John... What we did hate was nu metal and pop punk.
As a fellow metal head, I grew up on this shit. There was a short period when I felt shame, but then it all became just good music. If is sounds good...
@@gameface6091 In terms of AIDS I think 80’s were scarier I’m my opinion. I think in the 90’s there was more information available about transmission / protection.
This was in the charts during my tour in Yugoslavia with the UN. Our chain smoking medical officer loved this song. Played it constantly. Drove us round the bend. 😂

I am seeing this because a few hours ago I was having a private conversation with my spouse about this being our “song”. So great how our private conversations are monitored
cool song. Given that no one is actually live singing or playing instruments live, you'd think the dancing would be killer.. the guy dancing with the sax is the best
@@ithinkaboutthings9052 hahaha, exactly that :) I was wondering....how come this "live" version sounds spot on like the song on cd?! nobody is THAT good or consistent. But I liked their music back in the days and don't mind listening to it today.
In middle school a member of the yearbook staff asked me what my favorite band was. I decided to be a smartass and say, 'Ace of Base.' She put in the yearbook, and 30 years later it still haunts me. Don't be a smartass.
