Something small that I love with these scenes is that Luffy and Ace never stand back-to-back. It's always an open triangle, as if leaving room for one more.
I don't blame him: after the dozens of "killing blows" dealt before in One Piece, one tends to disregard it. Which is why the next episode hits as hard as it does...
Remember that Logia's can have natural counters, like how Luffy could punch Enel despite being lightning, the same thing happened here with Ace. As Akainu said, his magma can burn even fire, in other words, he's a natural counter to Ace's fire fruit
I always interpreted that comment as akainu saying he's just better than ace I don't think magma is a counter for fire. I do think it's a better version and ace was never going to beat him. Also first ace couldn't go intangible because that wouldn't have stopped the attack. Second akainu knows CoA so ace probably would have been hit anyway.
@@leftoflove He wasn't saying he's better. Logia's have 3 weaknesses haki, a superior element, and an opposing element no matter if it's Zoan, Paramecia, or Logia. Luffy beat's Enel because rubber opposes lightning, Akainu beats Ace because magma is superior to fire, Aokiji beats Monet because ice is superior to snow, and Akainu and Aokiji battle to a stalemate because magma is equal to ice and Aokiji loses simply because he got tired first.
@@-Offstar Current insights into the truths about devil fruits (current anime arc revealing the truth about a certain devil fruit not actually being paramecia for example) could very well be at play here with the magma over fire over ice but magma and ice being equal conundrum. Haki being irrelevant or otherwise being unimportant.
Whilst this is true, you have to take into account things that can get even hotter... once fire turns blue, it is undoubtedly hotter than magma... that's right, if Ace could've somehow managed to turn up the heat & make his fire logia turn blue, then he would've been able to overpower Akainu instead of what happened here... He was forced out of the kitchen before he could turn up the heat...
@@RustyMerc4Hire We have to assume that Akainu can also make his magma stronger/hotter though, this is only considering the real world hierarchy of heat for these elements. Take Kizaru for example, he is a light human, but he is probably a good bit faster than light, considering even pre-timeskip characters could dodge light, so we can assume that as long as Akainu was stronger/more experienced with his fruit, he would still be hotter than Ace
Good thing Zoro stopped caring about his childhood dreams and instead needed luffy at marineford to care about being stronger... or something lmao@@MarikitKaNa
I don't think so tbh. Akainu is just one of the most calculated marines. Just like he blew up the evacuation ship in O'Hara. He wasn't thinking emotionally, just pure calculations. And likewise, after Luffy showed his conquerors haki and freed Ace, he knew it would not be good for the marines if BOTH these brothers escaped. They are far too dangerous to have both. So he needs to kill at least one of them. I think he knew Ace would jump in to save Luffy, forcing him to take the fatal blow instead of potentially escaping. Any risk, is too much after all
I always interpreted it as Ace could have become fire and avoided the attack, but then it would've hit Luffy so he purposefully kept his body not fire in order to stop the attack and protect Luffy. idk if its the case tho
While that's probably true, since saving Luffy was his goal anyways, Akainu would likely still have been able to punch through him, since we see him burn Ace just a few minutes earlier, and Akainu explains that his magma is superior to Ace's fire
@@kevindusablon2835depends on if you think he is capable of using his fruit to become fire and avoid the attack like akokiji did whiteboard or katerkuri to fake avoid hits despite being paramicia
482 and 483 broke me.I was crying so much, people came in my room and asked if was ok. I was tearing up so bad i couldn't even read the subtitles. The kicker to all of this? I was spoiled but still cried so bad. It wasn't the death, but Luffy's reaction and what ace was saying to Luffy. RIP ACE 😭😭😭🍩🍩😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
So for Ace taking the hit, he could've used his power to not be hurt, but Akainu would've hit Luffy, so he materialized his own body to block the blow.
"Don't make fun of the man who saved me!" This is why Ace couldn't let it go. The vivre card has been Luffy s connection to Ace since he told him to always keep it with him. This is why Luffy couldn't let it go, a habit and a reflex.
This really showed prominence with finally revealing a weakness to Logia Devil Fruits. When it comes to Logias, they become living elemental incarnates; but here it showed Logias (by each other in this case) can be damaged/fatally injured if they're overwhelmed by comparable affinities by an elemental hierarchy. In this case which the elemental hierarchy for this example showing that while fire & magma are similar, the power-clash of the Element of Fire is Inferior to the Element of Magma. In case of people wanting to confirm; the devil fruit power hierarchy is officially talked about in SBS Volume 79; but I guess if anything in technicality that it is sorta touched upon in mainly ch 573 (and partial 574 as slightly carries on in minimal talk)
magma is just rocks that have been superheated to the point where it liquifies. that level of heat is beyond what normal fire can produce. in many cases, magma has been known to smother fire. so akainu just burned hotter than anything ace can generate himself.
Not true, bc if you remember Akainu’s battle with Aokiji lasted for like 10 days. If what ur saying is true then Akainu should’ve won in less than an hour since Magma easily burns ice. I think it’s rlly just the fact that Akainu used haki on Ace along with his devil fruit powers. That’s it
There was one quote in here that had me like "Wait for 600 episodes later and you'll see where you're wrong." Manga readers know what I'm talking about but I'm not spoiling so "SHHHHHH!!!"
The reason the vivre card is burning is because like Akainu said earlier- his magma can still hurt him. It's no different from when he sent Ace flying- being a logia isn't enough now.
The way Luffy looks so young, so small and defenseless looking at Ace always crushes my heart, how painful and traumatic it must have been for his heart, thinking about it is what made me cry when I saw it for the first time. Even now, years later and having seen this scene many times, looking at Luffy breaks my heart, his world shattered and so did my heart. How evil and cruel you are Oda grrrrr :C
Do y'all forget he already reacted to this a long time ago he already knew he's on the Timeskip 😂 He watches ahead of his Patreon on his own and then uploads the pre recorded reactions to his Patreon and RU-vid
It's ok for Jack compared bcs its close to his watching rn in Patreon compared to one reactor who's in Latest Episode in Twitch and he's Uploading in Whole Cake Island and getting bored watching and slow pacing by talking when he pause in RU-vid 😑
Ace did his job as a older brother and protected Luffy. Logia are indeed intangible, however that intagibility becomes obsolete if an enemy attacks them with something that is a counter force to their logia power. Or if the user himself chooses not to be intangible. In that moment Ace allowed his body to be solid in order to block Akainus attack and protect Luffy. If he would've keep his intangibility on, perhaps the damage would have been reduced somewhat, but that would have meant the attack reached Luffy.
I was waiting for this one. Loosing Ace like this was heartbreaking, and i never see it without getting teary. But the next few episodes are not gonna be any better. Get your tissues ready, cuz soon you'll have to see luffy actually come to terms with what just happened. And as to why Ace was able to be hit. When it comes to Logia types, some have an advantage over others. Yeah, most things can't touch someone made of fire, but if something is HOTTER than fire, it can overcome that defense. And lava is ALOT hotter than fire, especially since Ace was probably not aware flames can go "surface of the sun" hot. But even if that weren't true, Ace would have had to conciously take the hit to save Luffy like that.
From the flashback with the Whitebeard Flag. All the People that appears is as follows: Edward Newgate (Whitebeard), Gol D. Roger (Gold Roger), Silvers Rayleigh (Dark King), Shiki (the Golden Lion), Sengoku (the Buddha), Monkey D. Garp (the Fist), Buggy (the Clown) & Shanks (Red-Haired)
@@ikeking6797 does it change the fact that he took the hit for luffy. Or that he dropped the card on his own or that someone as fast as akainu could have followed them
They also don't take into account that Oda piled on genes and trauma that made Ace turn back; there's no way he wouldn't turn back because Oda built him that way because he needed it for the plot. Ace didn't get one shot by Akainu either, so Luffy running out of energy was the trigger that made everything go so wrong. And still, Ace chose Luffy over his own life and no one talks about that.
