This is why water seven saga is one of the best arcs in one piece. It is a masterpiece in story telling. Water seven itself as a city, the crews predicament over Merry, the conflict between ussop and luffy, the revelation about klabauterman, the kidnapping of robin by CP9, the aqua laguna, the sea train fights, the raid on enies lobby, the galley-la/Tom's workshop backstory, Robin's backstory and the crews resolve to rescue her, gears 2 and 3, luffy and Lucci's final fight, Merry rescuing the crew, merry's farewell, Franky joining the crew, Luffy's family background, ussop and luffy reconciling, the new ship Thousand Sunny and the ace-blackbeard battle. Man so much great stories in this arc
Kaku's life upbringing as an assassin vs his secret desire to be free was also a nice touch to the story; even earning a rare apology from Zoro who felt under different circumstances they could've been friends/allies.
I hope you're not one of the typical npc that says that only this arc is the good one and nothing is worth it anymore in One Piece (just because someone's favorite youtuber says so)
The first time we heard Ace was looking for Blackbeard was in Drum Island, so episode 80 something. Only took us 240 episodes to get to them finally meeting :D
Blackbeard wasn't confirmed to be a Warlord in that meeting we saw before this. That was a meeting to decide on the next Warlord, and Blackbeard's subordinate (named Lafiette) crashed the meeting to recommend Blackbeard. The World Government countered with the argument that Blackbeard was a no-name pirate (at the the time) that wouldn't be able to strike fear into the hearts of pirates as he had no bounty yet. So Lafiette told the WG that BB was working on a big push for his reputation at that very moment, and asked them to give BB the time he needed to do it. That's why Blackbeard went after Luffy when he was on his way to Skypeia. He saw Luffy had a 100 million berri bounty and knew that taking down someone of that calibur would make him a big enough name to be put into consideration for a warlord position overnight. That's also why ge was about to head after Luffy again when Ace showed up. As Luffy getting an even bigger reputation from Enies Lobby would mean BB would've had even more reason to take him down specifically.
Well not that last part exactly. He was still going after Luffy for the rep push but the news about Ennies Lobby and his bounty raise hadn't hit the papers yet. This is 3 days before the news article spread around the world. He was heading to Water 7 because of the Iceberg incident put Luffy in the paper so thats how he knew he was there.
hands down one of the best eps of the show. the fight, the devil fruit explanation, the final clash, the stakes are SO high. I was definitely waiting for this!
Smoker wasn't saying he is a Captain he was saying he only has so much as a Captain. He was speaking in past tense. Smoker is a Commodore now. Thatch and Teech are both potential the real Blackbeards last name. Edward Thatch or Edward Teach.
@@spunkymaniac9312 They're talking about the real blackbeard, not the one in the manga. The real blackbeard inspired both Whitebeard and Blackbeard's name and even Thatch's.
i was sooo sad when merry died, but going from "going merry" to "thousand sunny" is just so cute. like its soooooo strawhats, so luffy. hes always merry, and he like, brings the sun with him wherever he goes metaphorically, and now literally. im sick rn so thinking about the straw hats for too long is gonna make me cry, but im glad you guys like her
In insight it wasn’t that cut and dry that blackbeard was going to win to ace’s perspective since we know now what he had in his arsenal oda was just really bad at powerscaling at that moment even tho for me it wasn’t a ace got no chance type of scenario to most people they ace power literally cant work on blackbeard which is false but oda writing could make people think that
I fucking love how much Teach gets hit and how kinda patethic he looks at times, it's pretty obvious that he is being build up for something, but in most other series characters like him are showed to be infalible and at the top of the food chain,Teach is strong don't get me wrong but he also is flailing in the floor while crying like a punk. Also there are some really interesting lines in this episode. Now for One Piece at a time: Remember how Usopp was hyping up Luffy's first bounty because he was in it? Well Sogeking first bounty is 30 mil the same as Luffy's first bounty. Also Thatch's name is another version of the real life Blackbeard's name, there are record of it being written as Edward Teach or Edward Thatch.
shanks has the 3 scars on his eye when he and luffy were in windmill village, so he fought blackbeard at least a decade before he even had the darkness fruit
I love that you both questioned why Ace didn't run! I think most folks see this as an even match-up. Something easy to forget at this point is that Shanks told Whitebeard that Blackbeard was once able to scar his face without using any cheap tricks. (We still don't have any more info about how that might have happened except for a possible time period when it could have went down.)
@@askalad You accidentally spoiled about additional context that comes later, can you remove that? It seems you misunderstood what my intent. I wasn't saying he _should_ run. The intent of my comment was to draw attention to this aspect of Ace's character.
Shanks said that when Blackbeard gave him the scar, Shanks was basically said that BB hurt him despite Shanks being focused and ready to fight. BB was hiding his true strength and potential by being and underling on Whitebeard's crew. That's why Shanks believed that a fight between the two would be a bad idea.
there is absolutely NO WAY shanks could have known about blackbeard having the dakr dark fruit. His warning wasn't in reagrds to powers and such, it was in regards to how DEVIOUS Blackbeard is. He's a man who managed to scar SHANKS (one of the four strongest pirates IN THE WORLD) while just being a no name minion, and ruthless enough to murder his captain. SHanks was worried that Blackbeard was WAY more dangerous than everyone thought because of these factors.
Since the anime has no intention of telling you how Ace found Blackbeard, it was explained in the manga via cover panels, full page side stories at the start of every chapter that gives important insight when the cameras are off Luffy. Ace came to a place called Lulusia Kingdom after receiving a tip Blackbeard was there, but it was just a doctor called Black Beard with no affiliation to Teach. But Ace dine and dashed, making the townsfolk mad at him and kicked him into the river (Weird since Logias can’t be touched, but oh well). A sweet milk farmer called Moda rescued him and brought him back to health. Moda asks him to send a letter to the G2 Marine Base’s commander, Vice Admiral Comil, which Ace agrees to since she did save his life. If you’ve watched the G5 filler arc, Ace takes a leaf out of Luffy’s book and disguises himself to infiltrate the base, even getting free meals. But his cover is blown when he overhears a Marine badmouthing Whitebeard, which he will not stand for. But an intelligence ship that was coming into port catches on fire, and Ace jumps in to save the people on board. The Marines now after him, forces Ace to make his escape, but not before he gives the letter to the Vice Admiral. The letter from Moda asks if the base would like some tasty milk since the base’s coffee was terrible when black. A Marine ship goes to Lulusia Kingdom to see Moda, but as it turns out, the ship’s cooks were her parents, who Moda wanted to see. Moda gets to see her parents, the G2 base is happy with cream in their coffee, and as it turns out, the intelligence ship Ace jumped into told of Blackbeard being at Banaro Island, which he decides to pay a visit. It might seem like there was a lot of useless information throughout this cover story, but a lot of it does come up later in the story. The cover stories do play a crucial part in One Piece’s world building and it’s a shame the anime never adapted them into one-off episodes. Especially when they would rather do trivial fillers and they even took the time to animate Buggy’s post Orange Town adventures and Coby and Helmeppo’s training with Garp, which _was_ a cover story. But them’s the breaks.
I have reread the whole thing couple of times and never noticed how early Dadan was mentioned. Considering the certain filler character we just saw it's kinda curious.
36:39 Ace is worth more but Black Beard's plan didn't involve Ace . He wanted a well known pirate so that the World Government can approve of him as a Warlord and Luffy was just the right person at the time especially as he is gonna take the empty place of Crocodile that Luffy defeated . 41:52 A lot of people underestimate Black Beard because of how he is build and how he gets hit and feels like weak and how badass Ace looks and is compared to him and I feel like that was purposely done by Oda which I really liked . We all know Luffy too gets hit a lot of times in his battles but we never would think Luffy is acting pathetic but people looked at Black Beard as he feels pathetic getting hit by Ace despite tanking Ace's attacks . 42:02 You broke this down really good as you compared Luffy and Black Beard's durability and endurance where people don't see Black Beard's durability and endurance as he looks sweating and is breathing heavy but still is fighting back really good .
For the blackbeard being a warlord thing. His name was put forth but Sengoku didn't see how a no name pirate would be effective in the position. The BB pirates said they were working on something to address that. They wanted to capture a pirate with at least 100 mill bounty to establish credability. Since Blackbeard is still looking for Luffy it's safe to say he probably not a warlord yet.
So, just to let you know,by the end of Enies Lobby, Oda finished another one of his cover story, and possibly my favorite one of his (and is also really important for some context). This one centers around Miss Goldenweek's daring rescue to save her former coworkers from the clutches of the Marines! As you recall, her, Mr 5 and Miss Valentine were left on Little Garden to fend off for themselves (Dory and Broggy are still fighting each other, full on fisticuffs, since their weapons shattered). Ones news reaches them through pellican delivery that all the Baroque Works bighsots at Alabasta were captured, including crocodile, they spring into action for a prison break! They hitch a ride on a pterodactyl with her paint powers, but crash land on a nearby island. Unfortunately for them, Hina, Jango and Fullbody are here, in search of Mr 2, who gave them the slip. The ex-Baroque try to disguise themselves as marines, but Hina immediately recognizes them because she's not stupid like everyone else in this story, and Miss Valentine is captured. At the same time, we see that Mr 3 is also on the run from the Marines and just as he's about to sail away, Mr 2 reveals himself to bring him back because, as he says, "You cannot step off the path of morality!" Mr 2 then saves Valentine by using his devil fruit to pretend to be Mr 3 giving himself up, and fighting Hina just long enough for the other 2 to run away with the hostage. The 3 can now put their plans into action: they sneak into the marine penitentiary in full disguise, beat the guards and save the rest of Baroque Works. Unfortunately, Crocodile refuses to come along, since their proposition of starting the company again just doesn't interest him. Mr 1 stays too, since he's a loyal ass guy to the boss. The remaining members decide to go back to the Spider's Cafe that they used to run as a cover, and after Miss Goldenweek uses her most powerful technique to turn the Baroque members' dreams into real costumes (including Crocodile getting a Pirate King costume),they can start working again as maids, baristas, and delivery boys. So wholesome for trained killers! Most importantly, Mr 2 and 3 are captured again and thrown into the slammer with Croc and Mr 1: this time however, they're sent to the safest prison on the planet, Impel Down! I'm sure this won't be important!
325 is one of my favorite episodes in the entire series. Fittingly, Blackbeard is also my favorite character, so since Water 7 started I've been looking forward to this :)
Im literally watching this with you, i watched one piece ling time ago, and i reached the end of this arc and never continued. Im even spoiled about all the good stuff that comes later, but i still wanna watch, but this time along side you..
In a cover story they show Zeff and the cooks modifying the Baratie by putting a huge reproduction of Sanji's wanted poster in front of it😂 it was also so nice to see Kureha immediately soften when she saw Chopper's poster☺
I love that Vivi doesn't understand why Luffy let Nico Robin onto his crew, but nonetheless has full faith in him and his judgement. In a world full of super powered people, Blackbeard turned himself into a man of kryptonite. It's not a perfect counter, as he explained and was shown, but it still makes him a very serious threat.
Based on the In-World Timeline (Fan-Made) by Library of Ohara: Ace vs Blackbeard happened while Garp was visiting Luffy. Its only been a Month since Luffy started his journey.
thatch is beleived to be one of the names the real life blackbeard went by, so its just symbolic of how Blackbeard is rising up and earning his name as a pirate by killing a 'pretender' to his future legacy as a great pirate
I recently heard it said in another One Piece read through series that Franky is like a red rug If you add a red rug to a room you have to change all the furniture cause the red carpet changes the vibe so much that what you had doesnt fit And Franky is that to the Merry, hes just too big to be on that ship, him and everything he brings to the table, they wouldve needed a new ship whether Merry broke or not, just to fit the new vibe
Oh! Now that we've seen the Revolutionaries back at base, I can share one of my headcanons! Remember that weird-ass dog mask Garp was wearing when we first met him, that never gets explained or used again after he takes it off? Notice something weird about Revolutionary HQ? They all have animal hats! Dragon is Garp's son, and the Revolutionary leader... so I think that once upon a time, Dragon gave Garp his dog hood as a gift, and Garp kept it all these years, even after his son left to go against the World Government. This isn't terribly well supported by the series after this point, but I like it. 😁
Blackbeard is not a warlord. He's a noname pirate, a MOOK, he has done NOTHING to get the government's attention let alone prove why they should even LET HIM be a warlord. That's why he wanted to attack luffy, by going "I caught this upstart pirate for you that you seem to be havign trouble with, can I be a warlord now?" but since he, you know, didn't GET luffy he didn't get that chance. He merely offered himself as an option back then, but he didn't earn the position at this point.
Oda-Sensei style, mention Jimbei➡️ introduce later, mention Dadan➡️ introduce later, set a fight of Ace vs Blackbeard➡️ announcement it'll trigger a massive incident in the near future It's not called ONE PIECE just because it's the name of the treasure, it's also called One Piece because every Saga built up with small pieces of names, dialogue, and fights that will combine into one big plot story 🤣
Have you ever wondered if the mugiwaras meet again with people they already know, for example, what would the interaction between Robin and Vivi be like? Remember that Robin was very seinen in that arc XD
I also hope they don't skip at least the beginning of the next filling, as I said there they show functions of the sunny that almost no one sees because others say so
It's just my opinion, but I would personally not recommend watching the next filler arc. One Piece has good filler sometimes, but that filler arc isn't one of them.
Boy oh boy are you two on a fun track, you managed to reach Drum Island during christmas and now you're here? Not only that by the time live action season 2 comes out you'll probably be caught up with everything the live action is gonna use as easter eggs if season 1 is anything to base it on.
Quite the eventful ending to this arc, isn't it? Especially after what the narration teased.... Anyway, plot stuff aside, there's something else of interest I'd like to address now: Whitebeard's jolly roger. For those who haven't read the manga, it originally had a very different design from the anime's. Specifically, it was shaped like a swastika (or "manji" as it's called in Japanese), while the anime changed it to look like a generic cross. However, as OP's popularity began to spread outside of its native Japan, some slight controversy had arisen abroad over the manga version of WB's mark.... which eventually forced Oda to switch over to using the anime's design of the mark in the source material ever since. In fact, he began using it right at this point in the story (since we all know Ace has WB's mark tattooed on his back). Of course, it's understandable why the change was made, but it does make me wonder how OP's standing in the world would be today if Oda didn't budge and stuck with the original flag design. Because remember, the swastika wasn't originally a symbol of hate.... quite the opposite, in fact. Could this fantasy pirate story have opened people's minds more on certain cultural perspectives deemed too sensitive for us westerners? It's certainly some food for thought....
I dont care what no one says i am genuinely afraid of blackbeard till to this day as manga reader i feel fear whenever he appears. .. i take him seriously everytime no matter how stupid
The episode literally tells you that this will have an impact. And I dont understand the point of your comment. They obviously dont wannt to get spoiled and everyone else already knows what will happen
