"How Long" is a 1974 song by the British group Ace from their album Five-A-Side. It reached No. 3 in the US and Canadian charts, and No. 20 in the UK Singles Chart and 11 in the Dutch charts.
The Amazon commercial for prime delivery resurrected Paul Carrack's hit, “How Long,” sending it up the iTunes Charts After 45 Years. Paul Carrack was the vocalist of Ace that recorded the song in 1974.
Ace were a British rock band, who enjoyed moderate success in the 1970s. Their membership included Paul Carrack, who later became famous as the co-lead vocalist of Mike + The Mechanics and as a solo artist. Ace are best known for their hit single "How Long", which was a top 20 single in the United Kingdom in 1974, and reached no. 3 in the United States and Canada in 1975.The song was composed by lead singer Paul Carrack upon discovering that bassist Terry Comer had been secretly working with the Sutherland Brothers and Quiver. Comer returned to Ace in time to play on the song.
The guitar solo is by lead guitarist Phil Harris. Alan 'Bam' King was the band's rhythm guitarist, formerly with the Action.
In 2020 'How Long' is featured in a commercial for Amazon.com

Same. My parents had a bunch of records - many compilations albums - diverse range of artists..but I was just a kid 8 years of age and obviously not aware of politics. I knew the artists were black or white or latin or whomever because of the pictures on the covers...but that's it. It was all "just music" to me.

There's perfection in imperfection when the vocals of Freddie Mercury without autotune was compared with the vocals of Michael Buble with autotune. Freddie Mercury had a richer and less empty voice. Even the best singers are now subjected to autotune. Not that there weren't bad singers in the 70's. But they still sounded better than autotuned voices.

This song brings such heavy nostalgia from such an incredible time. 1975, I was all of 7 years old, this song played non-stop that summer and its woven in so many priceless memories of days that are gone forever, yet amazingly in this moment they are alive: the feel of the sun, playing all day outside with the neighbors, running in the fields and the woods, the thrill of having a pool to jump in during the summer, the sound of mom making dinner, the warm summer nights, my entire family together, all 7 of us, the feeling of safety and excitement and anticipation for the life ahead. It's been 35 years since I've lived with my family, and those simple moments that seemed like normal and un-noticeable back then I value so much now. The most simple things. And I realize as I think this, that even this moment now, this simple, un-noticed moment now, is just as sacred, they are all part of this incredible mystery and journey called life. I f'ing love it!

11 years old at the time and I will never forget this song --- 48 years later, I finally get to see the incredibly great musicians behind one of the superlative songs that incorporate the soundtrack of my life . . . WOW . . . just sensational to see and hear --- even if it is being lip-synced! But hey, it was the 70s! 🤣💯❤💥👏🥇♠♠♠♠♠♠♠‼☑⚠

We used to call it 'miming' back then but I guess lip-sync is more accurate as mime is an art form really.

I had a similar experience with The Animals. Because of their name, I had always imagined them as rocker types. What a surprise some 40 years later to see they were mods!

Started in the sixties though, after the break-out acts of the fifties like Elvis and Little Richard etc. I remember when " cool " was never voiced. One either was, or quite definitely was not. Nowadays everything is " cool" or " awesome", so that these words or attributes now mean nothing. Of course now that people talk with their thumbs, the word " friend " means nothing either. I wish you rainbows Patricia.

Ray Cope You are so right, now that you mention it. Being “cool” was an attitude. Either you were or you weren’t. People didn’t talk about it. It wasn’t something to aspire to by wearing clothes or shoes or what you had. It was a state of mind aura of confidence. I saw a report the other day about young girls(10-12 YO) involved in cheerleading. The reporters asked one of them why she liked it and she said “because it’s fun and it’s cool”. I just cringed. Good Grief!

This song truly is AM Radio Gold. It brings back so many memories of cruising around in my dad's AMC Hornet (Yup! Such a car once existed). Paul Carrack has always been one of my favorite vocalists whether he sang for Ace, Squeeze, Mike + The Mechanics or just did the solo thing.

Lou Ann we are the same age. 1975, I was a 20 year old United States Marine on Okinawa. Boy I was missing my cute girlfriend back home. This song was so fitting for me. I found out she was cheating on me. And I wrote her and said, "How Long Has This Been Going On." So I have good memories and very sad memories in 1975.
