I bought one last week at Cosco for $650. I also bought and installed the next day an extra 8 GB RAM module (making it now 16 GB RAM) and a 2 TB HDD for additional storage. Man, does it rock now!! Adding those 2 components was laughably easy! Just open those 2 lids on the bottom and pop in. The laptop even came with the 4 screws necessary to install the HDD in a bag, included in the box! It was just begging to be upgraded!! They were even so nice to have put a single 8 GB module in one slot, leaving the other slot free, so no having to sacrifice any modules, as some @#$% manufacturers would have filled up the 2 slots with 2 4 GB modules. The only extra effort was having to shave a little plastic internally from the screw's pillar that was interfering with the plug of the ribbon connected to the HDD, no biggy.
I opened up a lid covering the extra hard drive bay and there was a cable just waiting there for a drive to be attached to it. Yes, I read some reviews also saying there was no cable, but as soon as I bought it I checked and there it was. There were even included in a bag in the box the 4 screws necessary to attach a new drive. The only extra work was shaving away a small piece of plastic internally from a screw's pillar to allow the cable to sit properly and the drive to enter. No big work at all.
um my brother is gonna get me a new laptop and saw this one on sale i only have 1 question what ram stick did u use as i plan on either getting another laptop to replace my current Asus A-5000 with 8gig would u recomend this as an upgrade cause its either this or having to spend far more on the desktop with monitors and an actual desk
Hey man, Just wanna ask, im a newbie here, i just got the laptop and i wanna ask what kind of upgrades did you buy for this laptop? can you give me some links, coz i think i will be needing that extra 8gb of ram and extra 1 tb of HDD.
Could you help me should ill get this laptop or an hp probook 470 g4 z2z03es it should perform everyday tasks but i also wanna play some new games so which one is the better choice
Someone an hour's drive away from me was selling this laptop for $250. Figured something must be wrong with it, but for that price, i had to check it out. When i got there, turns out the guy had loaded this thing up with a bunch of viruses and thought it was unfixable. Luckily, I had recently made a Windows 10 bootable USB, and actually had it with me. Wiped the SSD clean and started the install right then and there. Had essentially a brand new gaming laptop for $250 by the time I went home, and let me tell you this is an amazing laptop. Keep your eyes peeled for good deals out there people, Craigslist and LetGo are your friends.
@@andythedrummer9642 Mine has 8gb ram, a Geforce 1050, and a 256 SSD. It's pretty much handled every AAA game you can imagine, and even a bunch of real time ray tracing demos. I've been using a Cemu to play Breath of the Wild on it, and it runs amazingly, I havent checked exactly, but it seems to run well over 60 FPS (given that this is a tough game to emulate on a lot of computers). If yours comes with the same specs as mine, I'd say you're fine with whatever you want to throw at it. I haven't had this computer slow down at all. If yours comes with 4gb ram, it should only cost less than 30 bucks to add an extra 4gb ram to it, check for DDR4 laptop ram on amazon and make sure it matches your ram's speed. You can even add an extra HDD disk for pretty cheap too, as i think all models have an extra HDD slot. Hope this helped!
@@francomiranda706 thanks! It helped! Only problem is that I don't know literally amything about computers, so it would be hard for me to upgrade it xD My specs are : GTX-1050 4GB I5-8300H 8GB DDR4 RAM, 256 GB SSD
@@andythedrummer9642 youve got the same specs as me, except you actually have a better CPU than i do! nice man, im sure itll work great with whatever you use it for. Also, im not too good with computers either, but this one is actually pretty easy to upgrade! If you ever run out of storage, theres an extra hard drive slot on the back (you just have to unscrew 4 screws). I found a tutorial on youtube on how to add an extra hard drive for this computer and its super easy. you can get a 1TB seagate firecuda for like 50 bucks on amazon, and thats pretty much more storage then youll ever need in your life, lol. im thinking about doing that if i ever fill the 256 GB
It seems that no gaming laptop is perfect. No matter the cost or GPU /CPU / screen/ heart/fan noise/ build quality. I have yet see a review with no complaints.
Getting this laptop on Tuesday (payday lmao). It’s on sale right now at $600 at Best Buy. Thank you so much for the review. I’ve been sick and tired of video editing on my phone. I also wanna play games. Sims 4 on PlayStation isn’t the best way to play it lol
Andrew, thanks for the review bro. I'm planning to buy one, but i'm stuck between two options. Asus fx 553vd with i7, 2 gig graphics and 8 gigs of ram or Acer nitro 5 with i5, 4 gig of graphics and 8 gigs of ram! Which one should i go for? You reviewed both, which on would u prefer?
I am a casual gamer. I play GW2. bought this laptop because every time I raid with many other players my fps would drop to unplayable. i bought this....cranked up settings as high as i could.....and BAM !!! totally changed my experience. Love it! wanted to see what it could do.. so i got Witcher 3. game looks and plays great on high settings. Also tried BDO on high settings.... runs like a champ!! It will get a little hot and the fans will kick in... buts to be expected.. If you are a casual player..the Nitro 5 will change the way you feel about gaming. now i understand why hardcore gamers are hardware geeks. but for me and casual gamers.. this will make you happy.
how hot are your pc when you play games? because mine is around 85-90 celcius on low settings on games that doesnt require good specs. Ps sry for bad english it is not my primary language
I had an acer once and it was a tank... Very well built ...even fell down couple of times and still ran smooth. After that switched to a Lenovo that I,ve been using now for almost 4 years. Now I think im getting this one... Hope wont dissapoint. Totally great for the price
Hey! im a 13 year old and bought an acer nitro 5 with an intel core i5 8300h with a gtx 1050 for $210. In 2024, is this a good deal? The screens broken but its alright since im going to be using my own 180hz monitor. When it arrives, I want to play fortnite on it and im not sure how many frames i can get on it.
Would this laptop be good enough for PubG, Fortnite, CS:GO, Black Ops 2, Wolfenstein 2, etc? I might get one that has 1TB Storage, 12GB of RAM, and 128 SSD. Here's the link: m.bestbuy.ca/en-CA/product/acer-aspire-nitro-5-15-6-gaming-laptop-black-red-i5-7300hq-128gb-ssd-1tb-hdd-12gb-ram-english/11624448 Anyways, would it be good enough for those games? Particularly at 1080p and about 60fps... I'm not expecting much, like 4K and 256FPS. Aslong as it's just as good as console, and it's portable......
How do I get it to work well?? I have the same model and even upgraded to 16GB RAM.. It still won’t run any 3D games without crashing... Mine are the same specs but it has a GTX 1050 and i5 8300H.. Again, it can’t run any steam games without crashing / over heating. It also is slow even when I have nothing open..
256 internal memory is pretty abysmal tho... Don't know why some gaming laptops are made with such innately small memories. Or is there something I'm missing? Pretty sure there is
For those who are annoyed by the lack of SATA cables for the HDD you can request those cable from Acer for free here: csapps.acer.com/kit-request/#submit or otherwise contact Acer Support.
What are the ram spots for? And ssd slot? Im new and dont know much about gaming pcs! I wanna buy one just so i can play american truck simulator with a few mods thats about it? Would this lap top do the job?
my laptop fan is really loud so can i use it for school, discord, etc without the fan being a bother? because i want to use it for discord and stuff without fan going brrrr
how do you guys get so long life battery ?? i just got the new acer nitro 5 but my battery could only last 1 and a half hour at normal use like browsing, transfer files, music etc.
I dont know if it help contribute to how easy it developed but that screen flex possibly complicated my nitro 5 with a cable coming lose which has not led to me tearing down the entire laptop to attempt re-seating it
Hi. Andrew I'm one of your earlier subscriber and man seeing your channnel grow so fast is all due to your amazing laptops reviews.. compared to those famous reviewers you are great.. ummm can you look up to my old laptop and give your thoughts.. its hp pavillion g6 1068 se
I bought the nitro 5 2 days ago (8th gen processor), I really like it, and o also seems like I have a sort of carbon fiber edition or something like that
@@Rotary12A yeah my my one cant even play GTA 5 it's the i5 8300h, gtx 1050,8gb ram, when I play GTA 5 I get stutter and lag to the point were its unplayable sadly

Acer is selling this laptop with 1050ti i5 processor 8gb ram and 1tb hard drive with the option of upgrading with m. 2 ssd in india. Price is ₹75000 which is around 1170$ USD. Is it worth it?
@@snazzy226 I'm a strong believer that an SSD would make all the difference, but unfortunately I sold the laptop to a friend when I bought my OP DTW2 (i got a gem for an amazing price $899 on mark down) dont let the youtube reviews fool you, I've been more than satisfied with my "WalmartComputer" *my origin name also lol*
I have the same laptop as a secondary gaming/leisure system except that it came with 16 GB RAM. I have been satisfied with the purchase; the laptop costed something a tad under 1k euros in the spring 2018.
