Hey guys I bought 1! It wasn't cheap hah. Beautiful tree. So... I'm planting this tree in full sun 75% of the day. Hopefully it works out. It's 5' tall now.

Fell in love with this Japanese maple even though I’ve devoted my yard to growing fruit trees. Oh how I wish I had an acreage! Imagine blue spruce with butterfly maples creating a woodland moon garden! With white rose rugosa like double de coubert, oh my! It would be so magical

Butterfly JM are awesome especially with they have the pink in the spring. Mine sites in part shade and it definitely has more cream then green in its variegation. #japanesemaple

Bought one of these about 2 months ago. I'm in Atlanta, Georgia and I've moved this thing to 3 different spots in my yard (still in pot) trying to make it happy. Still getting browning leaving...

It’s not the spot it’s the pot. Find some good shade for it and plant it and it will do great

@@MrMapleShow I repotted in a larger pot with some good 80/15/5 pine bark, peat, perlite soil.... It's in a nice shady spot. Dappled sun periodically throughout the day. Can't put in ground due to plumbing/septic. Wish me luck!

What size pot would you use for a butterfly? Do they have deep roots if planted in the ground?

Depends on what you are starting with. I gradually move up pot sizes. If it were a 1 gallon I would go to a 3 gallon size

Are these mostly grafted trees or can they be grown on their own roots from cuttings? Great tree!

I heard you mention that fertilizer can revert this tree. do you mean even old growth will revert? or just that new growth can be completely green?

Just make sure it’s not sure high in nitrogen. It’s best to remove either if you see it when it’s not much. Typically it’s in new growth

I am getting conflicting info re the Butterfly JM -- I have full sun until afternoon then partial sun. Some nurseries say full sun is fine with this variety. I love this tree; please advise - you are the experts I trust. I know you advise partial sun for the white coloring but would my conditions work? I am in 7a. Thanks so much

I have it in full sun here in 6b so it really depends on your heat index. Typically it does need some late day shade not to burn in hotter zones

It will always be the most white in shade
