I didn't cut the bushing pins. They are fine as is. I used a ratchet strap to pull the tank down into position. Also, just move the turn signal up one bolt hole using just one bolt to hold it to the bracket. You'll need a spacer on the bottom bolt as it will be too long now. I used a larger nut as a spacer at the bolt head. Or get a shorter bolt. Good Video!

@@wilsonna1957 yeah I made a small bracket to move my signals up.

Thanks, you just showed me why not to buy this. For $336.00 it needs to be correct when it comes out of the box. I am not modifying my bike just to make this fit!!!!!!

Yeah it is kind of stupid that it won’t fit perfect. After the install I will say it is very nice not worrying if I run out of gas when I’m on a long trail especially if I’m exploring and don’t know how long it will take to get out of the trail.

Thanks for the video. It shows just what a pain the install can be! I just installed this tank today (07/04/2024) on my XR650L. I used Sil-Glyde (NAPA), a lubricant, on the factory rubber tank mounts. The tank slides really easy over the mounts this way and no modification to the mount is necessary. That does not mean it is easy to install! I still had to use a ratchet strap on both sides to get the front mounts bolted up. I also ran my fuel line on the right side in back of the carb so I didn't have to deal with the cables. I fit the fuel line on the left side the way you did. Enjoy the ride!

Sounds awesome, glad the video helped. Even though it was a pain to install I’m glad I did it. No more worrying if I’m going to run out when I’m on the trails. 🤘🏼🔥

If you left one of the tank valves shut, that would give you a gallon or two spare if you "run out" just open the other petcock.

The IMS tank has slots made in the tank for the rubber mounts I put a little bit of grease in the slots and it went on just let the stock tank.

Yeah you would think that it wouldn’t take much to have this tank molded better. Oh well it’s on now 😂

The IMS 4.0 gallon tank fits better. It uses the stock rubber mounts. I have one on my 2022.

The biggest problem I'm having is the rubber mounting pieces on each side it's almost as if I should just cut those off. Only thing is I won't have anything to mount the old tank back on if I ever need to or sell it
@CoyoteChris
@CoyoteChris 3 месяца назад
Not sure if you watched my whole video but I showed that I cut half of the metal out that the rubber piece is hanging on which made it much easier for me and if you decided to go back with a stock tank it will still work.

@CoyoteChris I watched the video a few times..ha ha. I appreciate your work. So basically these tanks need to stretch out a couple inches

These tanks are a @#&%! to install. I used a rachet strap to pull it down to where I could put the bolts through.

Yes they are, as you could see I struggled for sure but I love it now. No concern in running out of gas when I’m making new trails and no destination. 🤘🏼🔥

How much range are you averaging out of that larger tank. I see conflicting numbers, but I guess that makes sense bec people ride wildly different.
@CoyoteChris
@CoyoteChris 22 дня назад
@@AlphaChimpEnergy I was only able to get 85 miles on the road with the stock tank which is 2.8 gallons. 3 more gallons with this tank so it would roughly get you 170-190 mpg total.

I bought a used Xr650l and they put this goofy looking 5 gallon plastic crap tank on it😖the plastic fades and it looks like an ol milk jug so I try to find the stock tank on line NOPE they are all over priced and beat to crap , if you a large capacity tank buy a motorcycle that comes factory with one! I’m stuck trying to buff it and trying to get some graphics for it, the keyed cap keeps people from tampering, I guess you’re stock tank will go into the twilight zone and the next owner will be stuck with a big ugly pink after it fades gas tank.
@CoyoteChris

@@andyderby150 nah , whenever I decide to sell the bike I will give them the stock tank as well. I’m not sure if you we asking a question or not but that’s what I plan to do. 🤘🏼
