Canadian folk music legend Gordon Lightfoot dies in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, of natural causes at age 84-the Mariner’s Church in Detroit, Michigan, mentioned in his iconic song “The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald,” honors Lightfoot the following day by ringing its bell 30 times (29 for each of the crewmen lost on the Edmund Fitzgerald in 1975 and the final time for Lightfoot himself)
