This year was an absolute BLAST!! I am so proud of everything we've made, and all the expansion and progress (in videos and in thumbnails!!) we've moved into. I'm SO EXCITED for what 2024 has to offer, so long as we survive that murder mystery coming up soon...... 🔎

I really hope the Story Beats comes back. I almost exclusively play magic on arena and so seeing someone play and explaining the story as they go was just really fascinating to me. Although I do hope you can find a way to make it less exhausting even if it is spreading them out or something. Even if they don’t come back though I still love this channel. Always makes my day

I loved story beats and hope you can find a way to bring it back in a healthy and fun way for you. I am also sorry so many people were upset with the non-magic stuff. I'm not interested in buying into new games, but loved hearing your view on them and hope you get more opportunities to expand.

I found your channel earlier this year and instantly subbed. I watched pretty much all your "what happened in" series in a couple of days. I truly appreciate your presentation of the lore and the story and especially your own personal thoughts and takeaways. The green screen thoughts are really funny and are appreciated too. Thank you two for all you do and this art you give us.. It has really given me a new appreciation and love for the lore of a game I have been playing since '95. Kudos to you... and as soon as I can.. I will not only support you in words but I hope I can support your Patreon too..

So much to cover on this one, so I"ll try to be brief on each topic. a) Congratulations on the achievements! I'm really happy to have tagged along for 2023 and I'll be here for the long run. b) It was good to see you tackling games other than MTG. I watched a single one of those videos, to see if I could be interested in the game, but, honestly, though I love card games, I can barely keep up with MTG alone. And I've tried others in the past, but MTG is the one I'm sticking to. Yet it surprises me people would vote down on the video and complain about it. If someone is not interested, they can just... not click it, instead of making it seem like a bad video. The content quality was the same as always. c) I loved Story Beats. They were fun to watch and the introduction insight to the decks was valuable to my curious ear. But I could tell that, by the end of it, the true beat was on our dear host. And I don't blame you. It must have been pretty draining. Maybe do the same thing sporadically, but with thematic decks you make up yourself or something similar. I love thematic decks and starting them from a lore perspective.

Big fan of the precon vids: is how I stumbled upon the channel. I especially enjoyed the Widowmaker makeover as this was one of my favourites back in the day. I’ve got the cards for this on my list to track down, though as a typical Magic player I’ve got far too many deck ideas on the go so haven’t quite got there yet.

In regards to doing the precon decks you could make it a monthly thing where you take a month to make as close as you can to irl precon decks on Arena. Also it was really fun watching you and Nicole duel each other

I absolutely love the videos that you and Nicole put out Ryan. You both doing an amazing job with the creativity and lore of Magic. I would love to see more videos about other games. My favorite video so far was the one explaining your own card game. Did that ever take off? Thank you both for all you do. Look forward to seeing what you both have planned for 2024.

Thank you! My card game was mostly a reaction to being stuck in quarantine and wanting to do something constructive with my time. I made a beta version and did some testing with my Patrons, but then I moved to a new house, closer to friends and family, and the game became a lower priority. I still tinker with it from time to time though, and might devote some more effort to it in 2024.

I’ve enjoyed most of your content this year. I’m always open to other games but I have a personal hatred for Battle Spirits(one of my favorite card games was Buffy the Vampire Slayer and that game was cancelled to bring in Battle Spirits instead). The story decks you played although weak were enjoyable and what I’d love to see is you build your own decks(which you’ve done before) that represent the stories and play those on Arena. Anyway, I’m looking forward to watching more next year!

Primo! love the channel found it mid year and have subbed and watxhing since. I personally , prefer the MTG story/lore vids (I cover a little lore myself. musically :p ) But all the content is great. Looking forward to a STELLAR 2024.

Heya you two, with the non magic Videos, here is an idea that just came to mind, with this being a magic focused channel I am just not very interested non magic videos but also not 100% opposed to new stuff BUT the insentive to click and spend time of my day on a video that may be just "meh" (not that they are but finding out is still time commited) is just less enticing. So why not pull people in with explicitly comparing the games, story or gameplay wise very much including in the thumbnail/title. I myself like cardgame design and think it might just be what is needed to pull me in. How is flavor expressed in Magic vs ___ would be a great starting point imo. Im not a content creator and this is just a little thought but hey still think its great you are experimenting with ideas and formats even if some stuff underperformed it keeps the channel fresh and not stale. Early Happy new year ^^

Sorry people hated the videos about other games. I didn't watch them, and probably still won't, but I have absolutely no problem with you making them, especially if it's helping the magic-related videos even better!

i didn't watch the video on battle spirits because it didn't interest me as i rarely play other competitive card games though i would like to see you cover other topics and games such as Arkham horror or L5R which have interesting lore and games

Battle Spirits has enjoyed over 15 years of popularity in Japan. It has a massive story filled with interesting characters, and even an anime, which is more than Magic can say about its animated Netflix show.

Well since you're asking for feedback. Not a fan of non-MtG content. I understand that you have the desire to cover other games (and it may be even tempting to fill the lulls in Magic world just to have some content on the channel), but I subscribed to a MtG lore channel because that is the content I wish to consume. Imagine going to the gas station and they offer you jet fuel - a cool offer, but not something for my pick-up truck. Similar with the gameplay content: even if your spin on it is focus on flavor, I tried it out and it simply wasn't for me. It's easier to pursue your interests with an established platform like your's and it is a commendable effort that you're experimenting with new stuff, but keep in mind that what you have is akin to a brand and diluting it hurts your identity overall (almost like Magic with Universes Beyond instead of cultivating their own IP - and then we get stuff like botched closure to the Phyrexian saga).

Thank you for taking the time to comment. I have to say though, I'm still confused, because I didn't replace my regular gas with jet fuel; I just added a convenience store with more options for people. Nothing got removed. Tolarian Community College is now the biggest Magic RU-vid Channel, and it started with just product reviews, but expanded into gameplay, comedic sketches, the booster box game, and some of the most popular videos on on there to date are about the Pokemon TCG and Flesh and Blood, so I have a really hard time understanding why I have to stick with "just lore" while other channels get to expand and see great benefits from branching out - especially when all my extra stuff doesn't ever replace my Magic content. It just doesn't make sense.

@@MagicArcanum Hmm nice perspective 🤔 That said TCC always gave of that all-purpose channel vibes (at least it did by the time I started following). Paradoxically I do skip the gaming accessories videos there the most. As well as the Pokemon TCG and Flesh and Blood videos - they might be his biggest hits, but these days an average F&B video is 50k views compared to anythin MtG related that's 100-250k. If it was me I would have spun his Shuffle up and Play gameplay into a whole separate channel. A good example of this is the MtG Goldfish crew - they split into like their 6th channel. Similarly LRR compartmentalized into focused channels not that long ago. Again - I'm not saying to not try new/different things, it's that your biggest strenght is lore as there aren't that many channels that cover it so extensively/in depth. You've got Aether Hub as a direct "competitor" and Fantasy Geographic as a channel that's in the "business", everything else drops of significantly either in quality or scope. That's why I went with jet fuel at a gas station rather than your convenience store analogy: a completely different product for different demographic rather than a "might as well why I'm here" kind of deal - MtG lore is just such a hyper specific thing.

Well, my feedback is - you can't please everyone. Some content will not resonate with everyone and that's OK. For example, I only play paper magic, so I skip Arena videos. Regarding the non-Magic content, I'd suggest creating a separate channel. I can see why people going to *Magic*Arcanum _expect_ Magic content 😉

I thought Arena videos would still be helpful for someone playing in paper (Unless they only play Commander, which does not exist on Arena) but I can understand someone skipping them. What I can't understand is why people assume "Magic Arcanum" can only talk about Magic. It's not like Burger King only sells burgers or Taco Bell only has tacos. It gets even weirder when you look at Tolarian Community College, which is the largest Magic channel of them all - and yet has many videos covering Flesh and Blood and the Pokemon TCG. So, if there is a rule that a Magic channel can only talk about Magic and be successful, nobody seems to have told The Professor.
