Week 22 here with a surgical repair for a complete tear at the middle of the achilles tendon. I can walk and bike but I definitely have not built the strength to do any calf raises.

This is a great video! I am starting week 10 of my Non Surgical Achilles Tendon Rupture Recovery. I am hoping you see this as my biggest question is when do you recommend it is safe to start back playing golf? Thanks

Glad you found the video useful. I can’t comment on personal circumstances and would always recommend taking advice from a professional following an assessment. If a patient presented to me wishing to play golf, they would be at least building up their walking with minimal to no pain after exercise /no mobility aids/performing full range single calf raises. Golf, especially 18 holes can be a good four hours of walking, so I may get patients putting/using a buggy/doing 9 holes first. It will be different for everyone and the reactions to exercise will be the patient’s and therapist guide to progression.

@@sportrehabguide Thank you! Yes, I would be riding in a cart. I’m more concerned with the golf swing. My injury is on my right leg and I swing right handed.

A good marker for progression/confidence would be the ability to do some full range rebounding calf raises. That would give me confidence that the patient can tolerate faster movements of the ankle with weight. Good thing about golf is that you’re not having to push against heavy weight through the foot in follow through so it’s usually fairly safe to return to

I’m 18 weeks further in now I can’t wait to play football back again. Quick question could the re rupture happen during the rehabilitation only or after even though the rehabilitation was done properly n probably I’m going to back to football only after august this year?
@sportrehabguide
@sportrehabguide 2 года назад
We can never predict a re repture. Best advice would be find a good PT that can monitor your objective measures, follow your precautions, listen to your body and don’t rush in to football too soon. Give yourself time to build your calf strength

interesting that your progression assumes that the patient can go from double leg heel raise to s single leg heel raises and that the exercises are being done on a step, whats your progression criteria for this progression and what would your exercise to bridge the two exercises if the heel height was lower and the heel lower portion of the movement was very quick/uncontrolled
@sportrehabguide

These exercises are just a guide and if I were to include possible scenarios it would be a very long video. I will take note of your comment and keep it in mind for a future video. Progression ideas could be single leg calf raises in hydro/non affected side on the above step I found works well. Two hands pushing through a surface. Have used a powerband tied to a high point/chin up bar also to aid with body weight.

Other ones coming to me are, Up on two legs, down on affected side slowly and controlled. Isometrics through range too eg start / mid / end of range. It will all depend on the person in front of you.

Can be a number of things and impossible for anyone to give you an answer without assessment. Always best to run it by who’s taking you through the recovery.
