Warlord Games kindly sent me the rules, tank cards and tokens for their upcoming WW2 Tank game Achtung Panzer and i thought i'd try the 4th mission in the rules Hold the Bridge. The defender has to throw back an armoured thrust and hold the river. More AP coverage to come.

Another good game! The Americans did the right thing by getting over the river and using all the smoke they can, but sometimes those dice are against you. The Hetzer, being Turretless, gets a free pivot manoeuvre when it shoots or aims (rather like the turret turn on a tank) so it could bring it's gun to bear without a crew test as long as the target is not too far out of arc. Hull down tank destroyers are very hard to hit, so you really have to aim and shoot high. It does look a bit odd that tanks right on top of each other don't have a better chance to hit, but there is lots of smoke and noise. Also, at close range the angle to a moving tank changes much more quickly and so it's harder to lay the gun on target, so it didn't seem worth having an extra modifier to hit.

Thanks Mike. I remembered that free pivot before the game and then promptly forgot! I like the snarling tanks circling each other and the use of smoke and cards adds a lot. Next game will be against a mate as that will definitely create more fun and craziness!

I really enjoy Achtung Panzer and have been seeking videos of games. It was a little disconcerting you kept calling that Sherman a Panzer but I was able to subtitle it in my brain. I hoped the Americans would have pulled it off, but dice and other random events are fickle, aren't they?

Ok , nittpick time , The Hetz fired at the Ronson , hit the running gear , then next turn , you claimed "Out of arc" yet nether the Ronson nor the Hetz had moved , so Just HOW the fook was that claim a valid one , if I had been Playing the Krouts , We would have had a very interesting conversation , 🙂 🐺 LC .
