It sounds good. However, I've noticed the clap on your Miami as well as a few others I've heard online doesn't seem to have the reverb tail on it, which makes it sound kinda dry. With that said, I've heard other Acidlab Miami machines that do have the proper reverb tail on the clap like they should as well as a nice beefy and snappy snare and they literally sound just as good as a real 808. The clap is supposed to have that reverb tail (just like the original 808 does) to give it a more authentic 808 sound. I just bought a Miami on Reverb and I'm waiting for it to arrive. I have no doubt the bassdrum will sound good. Acidlab definitely nailed the 808 bassdrum as well as the hihats and cymbal. However, I really hope the clap and snare on mine both sound as good as my original 808. Fingers crossed!!!!

Hi. You’re right! It does not sound exactly the same. There suppose to be trimpots inside that can adjust clap and snare etc. I’m tempted to open mine for adjustment. I’ve also noted that the clap/snare sounds thinner when they are playing together which can indicate that they are not perfectly in phase. But if I take one of the snare or clap from it’s own output and the other one from the mix output this issue goes away. Anyways it is a fun machine, good luck with yours 👍

@@AsteroidKiller Thank you very much. Yes, the trim pots inside the unit should help with the sound of the clap and snare. I think it's the trim for the noise source that affects the clap and snare.

I was a bit disappointed about the Miami cause my favorite sound (rim and snare) didn't sound like on the original 808. The clap has no reverb. The other sounds are OK. I have an original 808,bought it for cheap 20 years ago and I must say that the Behringer RD8 is a lot better than the Miami!!! The Behringer is Very close to the the original unlike the Miami. Sorry, Acidlab, but Behringer DEFINITELY wins!

@@fjufbjdhhfhgrjhh8621 Interesting!!! I also have a Behringer RD-8 as well as two original 808s at the moment as well as a Roland TR-8S. I agree with you about the Behringer vs the Miami. It definitely sounds closer to the original than the Miami. However, the bassdrum and cymbals in the Miami are spot on. The other sounds are very good as well. I think the rimshot in the Miami is the worst out of all of them. When I finally got my Miami, the clap had no reverb tail. Not only that, it also didn't sound quite right and more like a burst of noise rather than a proper 808 clap. The cowbell was also out of tune and the hihats sounded funny as well. I had to open that thing up without a doubt. So, I actually went inside my Miami and tweaked the trimpots and it sounds so much better now than it did when I first received it. There are two trimpots that tune the cowbell oscillators as well as alter the tone of the hihats and cymbal. I tweaked those up and have them sounding very good now. There's also the noise generator pot that affects the amount of noise in the snare and clap. It will also affect the length of the decay on the snare as well. I dialed it in to get the best sound from both the clap and the snare. Finally, there's the clap offset trim pot that has a significant impact on the overall sound of the clap as well. My clap had too much transient in it and as a result, it was hiding the reverb tail. I had to dial the clap offset way back to reveal the reverb tail and set it to where there's just enough transient to blend with the reverb tail. My clap now sounds the way it is supposed to. By the way, this clap offset parameter is the same as the one on the front panel of the Behringer RD-8. Open up your Miami and dial back your clap offset pot and you will get your reverb tail. If the reverb tail is way too low in volume, you may have to slightly adjust the noise generator pot to make it louder. However, don't overdo the noise generator adjustment either because it also affects the snare and you could loosen the snare up too much. You just have to play with the adjustments until you get the best balance of both the clap and snare. At the end of the day, I am now pleased with the results. I honestly think the combination of both a Miami together with a Behringer RD-8 really could replace an original TR808 because what the Miami lacks in sound, the RD-8 makes up for and vice versa.

Thanks for this detailed info! I've never opened up any synth but I'll give it a try on the Miami.
