In this video, SoFLo PT's Physical Therapist Dr. Carson Kutuchief presents effective ways to maximize recovery and rehabilitation following ACL reconstruction surgery.
I am now 5 days post op and I’m so glad to find this video. I’ve started walking without crutches day 4 post op but only for a couple of minutes a day. Long way to recovery 💯
Hey all, thanks for the comments. A few key points: I am a fan of starting PT 2-3 days after knee surgery. It doesnt matter the type of graft you had or if you had a meniscus repair, your PT can start massage/soft tissue, mobilizing patella/kneecap, working ROM, and activating your quad muscle by using electrical stimulation (Russian or Neuro-red setting). Goals in the first week (doesnt matter graft type or if there was a meniscus repair) are to decrease swelling, obtain full Extension (straightening of knee) compared to healthy side, start to fire quad, start to bend knee, mobilize or move knee cap. Let me know what videos related to ACL rehab you would like me to shoot, thanks!
@@MrBrownii13 A lot better my surgery was April 2nd. They replaced my ACL with a cadaver one and trimmed my miniscus. PT every day is key. Good luck on your surgery 🙏
@@LordZee11 A lot better. Keep up the PT and ice every day. Important to keep get the knee stong. I did PT at home every morning and went to PT 3x a week. The more you exercise it the faster you heel. I was already at a 100 degrees after 5 weeks.
@@zandrahamilton3944 Hi, Both of you! My meniscus was fine luckily! Just got my acl Done. I am 6 weeks post surgery and still have to Walk very Slow and sometimes I feel Like giving in with my knee. I Hope it’s only because of the muscle loss. Are you also walking very Slow and careful in the beginning? I cant Walk more than 5000 Steps per day and I have to concentrate so much. Hope that’s normal
I had ACL and meniscus reconstruction, 5 days post op. I'm on crutches for now so I would like to know if any of you have any recommendations on some PT videos I can use at home too. Thanks
I can't bend my knees. It has become stiff. How can i fix that. I partially tore my ACL and now under bedrest for 6 weeks. I wasn't recommended any surgery
I tore my ACL jumping a fence while chasing a car thief. My knee was drained and the swelling reduced. Still waiting on workers comp to approve the surgery. What should I be doing in the meantime. Do I need to be on crutches?
I am having ACL and meniscus reconstruction surgery in a couple of weeks and I want to know what series of videos I should be following. Basically, I want to start PT as soon as possible from the surgery. Final goal is to get back to playing soccer. Any advice on what program I should be following? Thank you so much!
Dear sir, namaste🙏 I am from india. I had done the mistake of keeping pillow beneath the treated knee..in the 7th to 15th day after surgery. But after visiting my doctor I have rectified the mistake from 16 th day..till today. Today is 28 th day..after surgery. Will there be any problem with my newly constructed acl graft? I request you to please reply. I am very worried..🙏
Hii, 3 months after my surgery my knee Is feel quite loose and my quad is not fire as much as other leg. Please tell me for extension and quad fire exercise to remove the feel of looseness
Hello. I just had my surgery. I am on 2nd day post op. I cannot imagine doing these movements right now. Is that normal? I think if i trued those movements' the pain would be unbearable
@@southfloridaphysicaltherap542 I have a physiotherapist that i will be going to. When should rehab begin after surgery. I could not imagine doing any if those movements so soon. It is to painful for me to even go to the bathroom using the crutches
@@dannybravotk504 im 5days post op now and i could not imagine doing those motions on my own either, i start my pt in 3 days! my most unbearable days were 2nd and 3rd day post op. im off my pain meds now but if i try to straighten out my leg, i get a super sharp pain right below my knee/high up on my shin. im really excited to go to pt as i heard it really helps shorten the recovery process. Hope you have a speedy recovery!!
@@-hotsau i was the exact same day 2 and 3 suckkkk. I go to a physiotherapist on saturday. I honestly done think the girl in the video has been in physio for quite a while. Its bs in my opinion
sorry for delayed response, this is common after knee surgery, the quad becomes inhibited. I recommend your PT to administer electric stim (neuromuscular re-ed or Russian current) to your quad
Doctor protocols can be all over the spectrum. I have seen protocols where patients do not have a brace all the way to wearing one for 6 weeks. I like patients to have a straight leg brace for 2-3 weeks post-op until the patient demonstrates quad control when walking. Unless they have had a meniscus repair this changes things.
