This is an Acme-branded video, but we closed Acme Guitar Works at the end of 2013 and are focused on our own ToneShaper product line, which we design and manufacture. We previously sold these products under the Acme umbrella, but now sell them direct.
ToneShapers sells a comprehensive line of wiring products for guitars, including selected pickups that particularly complement one or more of our ToneShaper products. You can find our website here: www.toneshapers.com
One thing we’re not selling is hotrodded Fender guitars, so if you see some of our videos for these guitars and want to buy one, then we have bad news for you: They’re all gone, and we don’t anticipate that any more are coming. Sorry! But we’re continuing to use these videos as demonstration aids for the wiring products that we continue to sell. Also, people like to watch Dave Scott play.
Dave is a pro player who happens to live close by, and we’re lucky to have him helping us out with product demos, because he’s the real deal by far. And a heck of a nice guy, and funny to boot. We’ll have to do a video of him dancing.
Gear used in the videos was one of two amps: A Dr. Z MAZ 18 Jr. with reverb, or a Fender Vibrolux Reverb amp (the cheap one, not a blackface reissue). Pedals were modest, nothing too boutique-y really, except one Emma ReezaFRATzitz. You know, Digitech, Line 6, etc. Solid, cheap stuff that works well in the right hands.

This is the exact model of guitar that I've been considering recently for my first Fender... Candy Apple Red with rosewood fingerboard. Telecasters have always fascinated me for their very unique sound, and the Blacktop series pushes that sound over the top in a very good way while still retaining much of that classic Telecaster sound. What you guys have done with it above and beyond what Fender has provided is nothing short of amazing. That is a truly fantastic sound. Dave showcases it well!

We know what we're doing with the guitars, as many people do. But tone is largely in the hands, and Dave has great hands. Glad you like the vids! New ToneShaper for Les Paul vid coming later in the week with Dave playing. We shot it last week but the audio wasn't right, we're shooting again Wednesday.

ToneShapers May I ask a stupid question. Someone like Dave is really awesome on guitar. Did he practice countless hours when growing up or was he just gifted with playing guitar? I wish I could speak with him personally. He seems really cool.

Michael Williams Playing at that level requires many hours plus natural aptitude, getting to that level requires both. Dave has put in the hours, and has the natural aptitude.

Grew up on the Fender/Gibson sounds but thanx to these gangstoids I get both in one proudly made axe. Wong (my 3rd world Squier) may just go on trade blocks today or Ich gwineta hunt San Diego down for parts.... Peter Green?? wasn't he in the Fetal position band for serious British Blues/Boogie/Fusion with all kindsa Brit El Famosos? His greasy jam "Fighting for/Searchin for Madge" still gets ya rollin down the freeway. Lindy Fralin made the replacement pickup for Leo II my old Telebasas.

I just got a Blacktop, an used one, nice guitar. I just need some hints to modify this guitar like you do... Where I can get the electronic parts for example: a good replacement selector with 2 volume knobs and button for out-of-phase, new saddles (the original ones is not so good you're right!) and maybe a new nut. I already had 2 good PU. Can you give me some clues? Thanks in advance!

Sounds very nice, and the mod is all this guitar needs. I have an HH Blacktop Strat and it uses separate coils in position 2 and 4. The quality is excellent and the sound, too. Do you sell these modded teles? How much would it cost? Thank you.

We've taken a year off from shooting Guitar Guys, but that's going to change, we're starting up next week (10/16/2019) with shooting a monthly episode, and we're going to build a guitar each month -- to sell -- that will showcase the products we sell. This month's guitar will be a candy-apple red Strat. Edited video should be live within a few weeks.

what is the string spacing on a a blacktop tele...would it be the same as my american dlx?...i have an black b.t....i re-reversed the plate and put tele knobs on it...i also tried to hand roll my fret board edges with a screwdriver shaft...i didn't go too heavy but i find i have sig. fret sprout...also is it just me or do the blacktop tele frets fell taller than reg. medium jumbos?...anyways i'm hoping to put in a duncan trembucker or 2...and a good bridge...i'd love a full fret dress and polish but might ($$) have to stick with fret edges...i hope this won't compromise my playing area...high e slippage...hence my spacing question...thanks.

Not sure what the spacing was on the Blacktop Tele, but the narrow saddles (for 2-1/16" spacing) work fine on it. But because the string spacing is determined by the holes in the bridge, changing to wider or narrower saddles won't affect the string spacing, and won't do anything for you in terms of moving the E strings in away from the fretboard edges. Over-beveled fret ends (common) can exacerbate the situation. Fret sprout is easily dealt with by a pro, should be cheap and quick.

Which Callahan saddles did you guys use? I've got a set of 2 1/16 saddles on my blacktop, but they're a bit too wide. did you change the bridge as well?

+JoeWright30 These would have been the narrow saddles with center screw, which are 2-1/16" spacing. Surprised to hear that this spacing is too narrow for your guitar, as these saddles worked perfectly on the Blacktop Teles we used them on. Are you sure you don't have 2-7/32" saddles?
