I wish I had this advice when I was a teenager. My face is all scared up from acne. My parents did the best the could. They were raised not to question a doctor's advice. Passing this along to my niece's. Thank you Dr.Berry
I remember those days too. I had a dermatologist applying dry ice to some of my big ones and then there was Accutane. I remember pulling out the instructions and holding it up beside my head and letting go of one end. The paper came back to almost touching the floor with possible side effects. A friend told me to get Vitamin E capsules and break them open to put on scar tissue. Maybe that would help.
Me too! I hope I could see this when my acne first flare up.. I has been struggling for years now and hv known most of what dr Berry said. But that was after doing tons of research and trial and error. 😢 I know your videos will help a lot of people. Thank you for that.
Thank you dear sister. I will have the girls watch and listen to this vid. I know it will be a struggle for them, but I will love and encourage them to take the supplements and change their diets. We can make the smoothies every morning and enjoy them in the car while we wait for the bus. Baby steps towards beautiful skin.
Same here... I've struggled with acne for over 10 years. I'm well into my 20s now and was still getting scarring, cystic acne breakouts. I tried all the traditional treatments in my teens and my parents spent thousands on the medications. I got sick of being a burden and not seeing any improvements. Not to mention the side effects. So I gave them all up and started searching on my own. It wasn't until I changed my diet to Keto and gave up grains and sugars that I'm finally seeing a dramatic difference in my skin. I have gained in three months what professional dermatologists couldn't figure out in three years of treating me. It's absolutely incredible!
The smoothie sounds good and so easy! I wrote down the recipe for myself but here it is if anyone else wants to see it: - Unsweetened coconut milk - Raw egg - Chia seeds - Baby spinach - Fresh or Frozen Blueberries or Blackberries - Ice - Stevia, optional
Thanks Breanne! He also mentioned "oil" - I'm thinking avocado, coconut or olive oil? The other thing I'm curious about is the amounts of each ingredient - he wasn't specific on some of the ingredients in the video. Sounds like a great smoothie!
Tess nCali Hi! Good points. I've made this smoothie a few times since posting the comment, and I can say for sure that Oil is NOT a good idea. I added some olive oil to mine and the taste was over powering. Maybe if you are a big fan of olive or coconut oil, but I did not like it in a smoothie. It made it taste too much like a Salad to me! As for the amounts, I don't really measure things out either. I just put a handful of greens, about six berries, and a splash of the milk. If it's too thick/watery/whatever after blending it, I adjust by adding more ingredients. Also, a tablespoon of cocoa powder is really good to thicken this if you don't have Chia seeds or want a bit of chocolate flavor sometimes. You definitely have to add some sweetner though or it will be too bitter. Good luck! Let me know how your smoothie experiment goes :)
@@Anti-leftist7777 Hey, thanks for reminding me of this! I will have to start making this recipe again now that it's getting warmer out. I think MCT oil would be okay. That will give you an extra boost in fat content too! I don't use it much myself, but if I try it I'll give an update. My only concern would be what it might do to the texture. P.S. I wrote that comment a year ago, and I haven't gone off keto since. My skin is clearer than ever! It truly is life-changing stuff.
@@breerushi Good for you Breanne!! I am just finishing my 10th day, NOT EASY after being on white carbs, wheat and sugars all of my life, which is probably the cause of my acne. I am just hoping all the bacon grease and oils do not cause breakouts...how did that work out for you? I read about the MCT the other day, just ordered it on amazon, wanted to use it to boost the fats as you mentioned and will do so in my daily smoothies after my daily fast. Definitely let me know what you think, however I should have my MCT on Sunday so maybe we can compare notes. Later
I suffered from adult acne! I tried everything to clear it up! The only thing that helped me is dietary changes!!!! I totally believe that diet affects your skin!!!!
whitney holcomb it makes sense . Our skinis our bodies biggest organ . How can it do its job if it is fighting acne. When I we t of off grains, my acne cleared up.
Stacy Lamb my trigger was milk!!! When I cut that out of my diet my face cleared up in maybe 2 weeks!!!! I have spent no telling how much money going to the dermatologist, buying expensive face washes, and countless other “remedies” for acne!!! I was surprised that my dermatologist never mentioned dietary changes!!!! I researched on my own to find out lots of info.!!! Diet is key!!!! I also take a vitamin D and zinc supplement!!!
KenDBerryMD I’ll help my son. Can you recommend a cleansing regimen for teenagers from the grocery store? I give my son Noxzema... it’s ok not to respond to that product... he feels like it’s working. He has gorgeous skin and and I want him to keep it. He’s 14 with teeny tiny bumps... no pimples... but he’s self conscious... the girls? Yes... they don’t even see it but he does. Thank u... ❤️
Dr. Berry, as a 21 year old with pcos I absolutely love your friendly approach. I feel like I'm talking to one of my dad's buddies and it makes learning about health and nutrition that much more enjoyable. Thanks!
I have a short story on this subject... I’m 43 year old now. When I was a teenager I had pretty bad acne, to the point I went to the doctor to help my acne situation. Fast forward several years, in my early 20s... I had to have all four of my wisdom teeth pulled out. I chose to not be sedated while the orthodontist pulled them out, and I’m glad because I was awake and aware for the experience and I loved being able the see the doctor pull out my blood teeth but that’s another story for another time. Anyway, the orthodontist said, “ did you ever take tetracycline for acne in your life?” I said “yes” and asked him how he knew that. He said “because a side effect of tetracycline is that it turns your bones yellow and he could see that in my teeth when he pulled them, below the gum. So now I’m wondering... If the medication tetracycline turns your bones yellow, what else has it done to my body? Now I’m on the ketogenic diet and I never take prescription medication for anything.
FOODS TO ABSOLUTELY AVOID: 1.Sugars 2.Grains (wheat, rice, corn, oats) 3.Milk (all milk is bad. Cream is safe) 4.Vegetable oils 5. All processed food in boxes Eat vegetables as raw as possibles. Avoid underground and starchy veggies...
Thank you Dr. Berry. My dear sister Stacy left the message below. Your advice is so simple and hopefully, they will hear your wisdom and be inspired by your recommendations. God bless you for your direct no nonsense approach to healthy skin and body.
Look brother I am from India 60% my diet is indulge on grains so it is difficult to chngevwhat I go I eat moderately like where you take 200g of rice cut it down to 100g or 150 it will work and try to add olive oil on it cause it will low glycemic index which is more important ❤️
You are 100% right. I have done a regimen that followed pretty much everything you said, and my skin was perfect. I absolutely hated having some acne when I was a teenager. I avoided fried foods, carbs in general, and all dairy, and drank ACV. It led to a lot of healthy choices i.e. fruits and vegetables. Sugar or dairy is really the devil haha.
"Short video" :15 minutes. Dr. Berry, I think we have differing opinions on what constitutes a short video :P Thanks for the tips, Keto has done wonders for my acne problem.
I have pcos and I was getting cystic acne pretty bad. I started taking L-lysine, Zinc, Vit A, and Saw Pametto and it helped decrease to be more manageable though still not great and still cystic when it popped up. Since I've started intermittent fasting however my face is WAY better. I still get a bit of acne right around that time of month but now it's mostly little whiteheads and definitely no more deep cystic acne that just won't go away for months at a time. The redness in my face is going down as well. I haven't really changed my diet very much yet but plan on incorporating more veggies. I'm making baby steps to improve my health and it sure is showing in my skin! Thank-you for all the great information that you keep sharing with us!!
Hi Dr Berry - I'm in week 4 of the Keto diet and I can honestly say I'm probably grieving for the way I used to eat but I know from binge-watching your videos that I can never go back to my old ways. Your videos are keeping me motivated, so thank you. I live in the UK, am female and am 64 years old (I feel younger, mind you) and am not particularly overweight, but have suffered with acne and rosacea my whole life. It's really debilitating to have pimples, spots and red inflamed skin still at my age and there are many days when I just can't open the door or go out for being so ashamed of my skin. I started the keto diet hoping that it would improve my skin. Everything sets it off - infra-red heaters, central heating, the sun, the cold etc and it gives me a bright red, burning face. Could you please do a video on Rosacea? I'm hoping to get some solutions to this condition as, probably, many others would also benefit from your advice. My dermatologist said that I have to wear sunscreen all the time, but everything irritates my skin including the sunscreen. Thank you again.
Sylvia Fielding I can't do sunscreen because of the alcohol contents, usually about 5 kinds. I'm very allergic, so I just look out and if it's too much for me I go out another time. I also have a hat and shades and I don't wear much black, since that sucks in sun
I love this. Great advice. Love the smoothie recipe. You can also put baby spinach in the freezer in a ziplock bag. My husband makes fun of me because I’ve never let him or anyone touch my face at random. It was drilled in my head hands have germs.
Don’t know if it’s ok but I added a handful of frozen strawberries 🍓 and stevia which made a huge difference in taste Unsweetened coconut milk 2 raw eggs Handful of baby spinach 5 blueberries 5 strawberries Chia seeds 3 squirts of Whole Earth stevia & monk fruit All I tasted was stevia and strawberries shake
At first, on the diet change, I replaced eating chips with eating raw spinach. My face broke out bad. I went to the health food store and got "The Health Food Bible". It lists every food and what it does to your body. Turns out spinach detoxes in the form of acne. FYI
keto helped me a ton with my cystic acne, but now I have just regular acne, not too terrible but still pretty bad. I feel like I'm doing everything right, but then I realized that I touch my face ALL DAY, probably inflaming it. I mess with my acne all the time and that probably makes it way worse so I'm gonna try to stop and see what happens.
i noticed my adult acne started clearing up nearly immediately on carni. i also just shopped last week; i bought 4# colby jack cheese by the block. i also stocked up on 3 3# packs of sugar free no dextrose bacon and burgers and chicken thighs
I can personally confirm that sugar caused massive acne outbreaks on my face. When I was a teenager had up to 110 pimples on my face at one time. I stopped drinking all coke and sugar drinks. Cut back on fried food and bread and veggies. Ate 3 times more meat and started using real butter. My face is 95% better for the first time in my life.
Hi Dr Berry. I love your videos. They are very helpful, thank you! My question is, many people in my ketogenic diet Facebook group are complaining of breaking out with acne like a teenager, since starting keto, while others skin improved better than ever. What are your thoughts on some keto dieters going through "teen acne years" after starting the keto diet?
I actually had not seen this particular video til now BUT started following Dr. Berry about 4-5 months ago or so.. anyway I have a 13 year old struggling with acne ( small cysts and blackheads like crazy). and we put her (along with my other two) on a mostly keto diet ( very rarely will have a cheat like potatoes or I baked corn tortillas in olive oil so she could enjoy guacamole and then cake in her brothers birthday etc ).... BUT we were not expecting to see her acne prone skin get almost 100% better but it DID! I hope everyone can be cured this way - it’s so hard on your confidence to have acne.
Fantastic video!! Even for us old ladies that still get acne in our 40s. The more of your videos I watch, the madder I get at big pharma. So many lies for so many years. ☹ Thank you Dr. Berry! 😁❤
Daphne make sure the eggs are pasture raised soy free preferably from a local farm or health food store, the shells are thicker and yolks are a healthy orange shade. Don't eat factory eggs. Oh yeah, toss out the whites and eat the yolks. The good stuff is in the yolk.
Hi there, thank you so much for your videos! I have been taking vitamin B5 2000 mg a day for 2 years now, can you let me know if this will have any long time effects? Thank you for your help.
What oil do you recommend for the smoothie? And will frozen spinach work just as well? Also do you think this will work for adult acne too? Thank you so much for another very useful video.
Olive oil I think would be the best bet, and the most affordable for regular use. Butter, lard and coconut oil are solid at smoothie temperature (depending on where you live), and could be difficult to incorporate. Miracle fat that it is, somehow I can't quite picture bacon grease being too successful in a smoothie.
I eat all the food items you mentioned and thats the reason why i have severe acne for months and it doesn't go no matter what i try. I've been eating that diet for years...its like almost 70-80% of what i eat everyday and i find it really difficult to find an alternative for those food items. Moreover i go to gym and I'm currently bulking so I'll have to eat alot of carbs and many inflammatory foods. It's really hard to balance both of them. Please tell a solution for my problem. i need a good diet where i can bulk and have no acne at the same time.
Great info. But it's not just teens or young adults. I'm in my early 40s and have suffered with acne since my teenage yrs. But when I started keto my acne disappeared! 😊Until I started using MCT oil everyday. Is that normal?
Jessica Adams it's not the MCT alone, it's the keto way of eating reducing the inflammation in your whole body! Plus you are building your skin out of healthy fats now instead of destructive inflammatory grains! Same thing happened for me and I have never tried MCT. Congrats to you on escaping acne, it makes me so happy to hear that you finally had success! A breakthrough instead of a break out! :)
Doc, thanks. Just one question. I was told a long time ago the reason they put vitamin A in milk is to break down the vitamin D. Otherwise it just goes straight through your system. Is that true?
My daughter is having red circles around her eyes. Any advice on what she should do? She keeps thinking it's a skin issue but also has been told it's probably more due to allergies which she doesn't seem to have much congestion or post nasal drip. Kind of like red raccoon eyes at times.
I have been doing Keto and grain free for a while now and my skin is a lot more manageable, but I still get breakouts, sometimes I really don't know why as I'm so strict with my diet which can be very depressing. I'm now looking into trying intermittent fasting to see if that can completely clear this issue, I however have reactive hypoglycaemia, do you think its doable?? I've tried just skipping snacks in between meals to start and it hard!
SugarSpike You may not be able to resolve your skin problems just with nutrition (although it’s a great start). Stress also a huge factor, as are hormones. Watch Dr. Dray‘s videos on the topic for suitable skincare routines and products...she gives great no-nonsense advice.
Dr. Berry, I've been looking for real cream, but everything marked "Heavy Cream" has lots of chemicals, carrageenan and other things added. The purest I've been able to find is still Half and Half, which is only half cream.
pmessinger depending where you live it is very hard to find pure cream, but I find the 100 pure cream we get here in Aus is the best. Also Sour Cream ( read label) usually is pure cream with just vinegar to make sour. If you want a thick cream just whip the Pure Cream as it is thinner than the Heavy Whipping Cream that they get in USA. Cheers
Dr. I eat rice/oats by the pound because I bodybuild. You just said to cut that out completely. Can I substitute that with macaroni? Point is... I need carbs to grow. What can I eat 24 7 to meet about 400 carbs/day that won’t mess my face up??
Hi sir...I tried the Ketogeniv diet and acne cleared up, itchiness on my hands gone but after 3-4 months I am feeling a nimble pain in my right side stomach.....I am feeling that it might be kidney stones....Could u guide... Should I leave the keto.... Pls reply.... Love from India...And keep spreading the good word..
somesh kumar if you have it checked by a doctor and it is indeed kidney stones it mostly likely is not from the keto diet. One natural way to help keep your body from making kidney stones is to take apple cider vinegar. There are many different ways to take it by putting it in healthy keto friendly drinks. Look up some videos about the benefits. Hope this is helpful.
somesh kumar Also make sure to drink enough water. You might benefit too, from shrinking your protein intake a bit. For example if you make a half pound burger, get a food scale and measure out 6 oz instead. And increase your fats to avoid getting too hungry
Jaime Verduzco the healthy amount of bread to consume is zero. The same for beans and grains and sugars. You should watch the video above again. Try focusing solely on the video
Kim Alexander Retinol and an appropriate skin care routine/products. Watch Dr. Dray‘s videos on the topic. Not everyone’s acne can be cured by eating right alone (although it’s a great start).
If you watch the video - regardless of your age - the techniques he prescribes are true for anyone w/acne. I believe he targeted teens and younger people b/c they often are the ones who suffer the most from acne... Try it!
