Yea, I also picked up on this with the lead pour. I will happily admit that Steve and crew have become a regular part of my Friday mornings. I'm guessing that along the way we have seen the fabrication of every single piece of that boat! Thank You for bringing us along on your journey Steve!

DITTO! Watching since before the keel.

Me too ( following, I mean. I'm not a sailor). The lead keel was honestly the most exiting video I have seen on YT for a long time.

Yep, I saw the keel video and went back and watched from the first episode. Not only is the boat project itself pretty amazing, but they make good videos too.

Did you follow Doug Jackson's build of SV Seeker in Tulsa? A 74' steel, junk-rigged, motor-sailor built from raw sheet steel in his front yard. Amazing project. He's in the Gulf now, adjusting rigging and learning to sail.

They need to do a show on Leo!!!!

Did you see the Sampson Boat Co episode that showed the guy from Acorn to Arabella? He was in awe of the rivet machine press. To be honest, I got giddy seeing the cross over. Hopefully they'll all meet up and sail together.

i am like my younger brother edwin. he took after the famous talking horse. mister ed. it must have been part of the dna mom and dad gave us. in the scheme of life we are similar yet differently. i remember that my dad thought that our last name waterschoot could translate into river pirates. but if i take poetic license. maybe i do because i like music of a group called pirates of the Mississippi. and that has a mighty american river and pirates. i was born in a country with alot of land under sea level ( the nederlands to the dutch folks. the netherlands to the world, and holland as a nick name. i also loved jimmy buffet and his song of son of a son of a sailor. and some of his songs have pirates mentioned in it. and now mr ed and in both graduated from windsor locks connecticut a canal town with a high school that was home of the pirates called raiders. as a kid i liked playing with toy boats and made paper.boats out of newspaper. and ocassionly made simple boats out of wood. now i am curious. was he a son of a son of a sailor or is the a dream of building and sailing a boat. but he has the love of momma and taking her out sailing on a boat the he had hands in building that might demonstrate a walt disney trait if you can dream it you can make it happen and if you can make it happen you can share it with people you love. for stephen and his lady traveling friend. but he has to see the lady that carried him in her womb for 9 months and took care of him for over 18 years. she is nearing her end of life process. and he is nearing the first part of his of dream of building a boat. a dream of finding a life partner for sailing to an island or around the world. the destination is not that critical. it is the just life's journey. and maybe older folks including me say if you dream it just do it. otherwise you will have to review it on a later date. and you may have repetitive regrets for not doing it when you could and maybe unable to do it now. do it now. no excuses necessary because no excuses are acceptable. harsh words like could have should have are words of repetitive regrets. try to live your life the best you can and with as few regrets as possible. follow frank sinatra's song i did my way. so have a good day today and better tomorrows.

It's a different animal, almost apples and oranges in comparison. The whole crew including Leo are professional boat builders and have built many boats between them, not to mention working in a larger boatbuilding complex with all the services a boatbuilder might require. Steve is learning as he goes and building far from most facilities. Both are terrific in their own right but it's unfair to compare.

Naah... Ask any boatbuilder on RU-vid - while they might have a dozen different ways of doing things they'll all tell you not to worry because Steve knows what he's doing. It's not like he's making things up as he goes: he's been thinking things through for far longer than seven years, he's got drawings and calculations to work from, dozens of books to consult, experts he can rely on. It will all work out fine.

They actually explain how they harvest the trees. It's selective cutting at it's best and they use all that they can. Plus the trees are on his property planted by his ancestors. When you cut large trees in a densely forested area, you create room for future saplings to grow.

Carlos, I guess that I can assume that you live in a mud hut. What is your house made out of? Uhoh, perhaps its constructed of some wood products. You look silly with your comment regarding the construction of this boat.

Carlos, you have wrongly concluded that Steve Dennett is some kind of old-school pillager of the environment. Regular followers of the project will be pleased to correct you. Much of the tooling equipment has been rescued and recycled. Surplus tools, and help was passed on to the Sailcargo Project in Costa Rica, where giant wooden sailing ships are being built to replace environmentally less-responsible steel boats. Chopping down trees is not always evil. Surviving in a complex and challenging environment will take more than the creation of a few more National Parks for rich folks to fly to in jet planes. Governments have the power to do great things to manage global challenges. Individuals have the ability to question, dream, invent, persuade, and inspire. Watch the video again and perhaps you'll see something else.

@@themister3865 No need to be nasty. There are ways to responsibly harvest lumber. Nothing wrong with planting trees to replace those there harvested.
