great collection. Personally I love a clear glass font, so easy to see how much fuel is left, and to know when to keep the wicks down when you're low on gas, so the wick doesnt char.....I got a cheap 3/4" flat wick lamp, all clear glass, LOVE it......the light these put out makes any room look comforting and lovely
I've been searching for a long time for a good Aladdin at a reasonable price...and then I find this. Good for you guys, I hope one day it'll be my turn.
@@justinhigh7966 Actually I did. I wanted them for being prepared for emergencies, and because they look so good. There was an antique store not far from where I work sometimes that was closing down. They had a small amount of Aladdin lamps, and parts. I was able to talk the lady down to half price on a pair of glass shelf lamps as long as we replaced the wicks and installed new mantels. Finally lit one the other night. I could read up to about 4 feet away. With good kerosene there was no smell at all. The glass fount does not conduct heat into the fuel. I have a few Rayo style lamps with metal founts. They are not as bright, use a lot more fuel, produce more heat, and have an odor. Since the founts are metal they conduct heat into the fuel which raises the fuels temperature after a couple hours to the point that it starts to rapidly vaporize fuel and the lamp starts to flare up. It can get quite dangerous. Which is why I cannot trust them to leave them alone. I would imagine the very old Aladdins with the metal founts might have the same problem. Although they have a smaller wick and therefore produce less heat so maybe not. Although the Aladdin's are very nice-looking, I think I'm going to make myself a couple of small solar charged 12 volt LED lamps for about the same price. They will be much, much brighter, and I won't have to keep going out to buy good kerosene at around $5 a gallon. I have already picked up a couple of Tiffany lamps at another antique store for around $20 each I was just looking for the rest of the parts earlier today. I know they make electric burners for Aladdin's, and I'll pick some up if I find them at the right price. Sorry for the novel, I thought maybe somebody might want to know the whole story.
@@justinhigh7966 Nice! I've heard of people finding them dirt cheap in thrift stores, but I have never ever even gotten close. My glass ones are 23s also in nickel. I'm curious, has yours ever flared up? Do you use it very often? A while after I got the two glass shelf lamps, the sister antique store that the same lady owned got an all brass, never been used, complete Aladdin with glass shade. It was found in a barn, unfortunately the box was trash, and there's a 1/4 inch diameter spot of corrosion on the foot of the base. I couldn't get it at the time, and it took a few months before I got back in the area. When I went back the chimney and mantle were missing, I assume from customers messing with it. but it was still there so I bought it! I just simply couldn't pass it up. I recently looked at one of the Aladdin dealer websites, and they want about seven or eight times what I paid for this one.
I'll take the Coleman ones too eh. You're killin me over here ! If you find a wick for a model 15 heater, let me know will ya 😁 I wouldn't mind having that green whale oil lamp you left on the shelf either. That's only the second one I've ever seen that color...
I keep finding Aladdin's cheap in charity & antique shops with a note on them saying Broken/Not working, often the chimney all black with soot and get the weirdest of looks from the seller when I say You know these lamps use a mantle right?
They don’t have a clue. There is a lot of pre war and boomers that are passing on. The next of kin have no idea that they have. Often this stuff goes to charity. There are deals to be had. Get out there snap them up and resale them and make some money. Fun hobby that can pay. Cheers
Does the word OBSESSION mean anything to you. Hehe just kidding. I love it. I own 1 aladdin and I am planning on acquiring a few more. Awesome video. I subbed.
It's a fantastic product from a company with no competition, they missed out on the prepper boom. As well as the constant moves in production, with constant quality issues.
Sadly no. They are not massed produced anymore. If your lamp is tuned well and you don’t overburn then they should last hundreds of hours. The issue is lifestyle. When they were sold originally they were used as primary light source. If they started to act up, you would immediately correct the wick hight. Now people used them and watch tv and dont notice overburning. Cheers
I don't know anything about this stuff, so why did these people have all of this stock but it doesn't seem like they were doing anything with all of the pieces and parts they collected. Were they just hording, did they simply run out of time or did they have an outlet or plan to eventually deal with it all? Please explain. Thanks!
Collecting is addictive. They were part of Aladdin Knights club. They traveled , had friends and both enjoyed finding lamps. They probably bought a lot real cheap. Not sure what their exit plan was. But it was the biggest honey hole of lamps for me and my friend Yvon. Cheers
Are you selling them? Or just trying to figure out what they are worth? Either way I will need to see a picture or two to determine what they are. You can email picture to powersportontario@gmail.com Thanks
@@Kerosenecanada I am just getting into them. I have wanted one for years, but haven't bit the bullet yet. I suppose to start I would want something newer. Maybe a 23 or newer. As far as price goes, I am looking to get started for as little as possible. Leaning towards a table lamp. I don't mind cleaning one. If you have something that might work for me, keep me in mind. I live in the US so it would have to be shipped. I could pay with PayPal. It is a bit difficult to find them in my area, so I am starting to think I might have to go new, if i dont want to spend an arm and a leg.
Dan Roehm Honesty Dan, some of the best and worst burners that I use are model 23. The cost of shipping from Canada May make it not practical. I order lamps from Lehman’s. The new lamps are really good no they sell them with everything for about $150. They have free shipping a few times a year as well. I have bought and used 4 lamps from them in the last few years, have one at my Florida condo, home in Toronto and at my cottage.
@@Kerosenecanada Thank you for the input! You should make a video for people like me wanting to learn about different burners and models! I know I should get some books, but I am a millennial haha
Just dont bring them all in the house at once. Leave some in the trunk of the car and bring the rest of the boxes in another day when she's not looking. Not that I ever did this. This is technique a friend told me.
Yes, I do that. I also hide them in the garage, sneak them into the lamp workshop. They hide well with 50 lamps in there. Eventually, they end up in the museum. No one knows the better. 😂
I used to. eBay fee’s, PayPal fee’s and now state tax make it difficult to make or not lose money. I will be selling again this fall. Kerosenelamps.ca Cheers
@@Kerosenecanada I’m looking for #12 parts. Either a whole burner assembly. Or wick raiser, outer wick tube and gallery to complete a nickel center draft.
It literally makes me sick to my stomach watching people go through someone's hobby. The poor wife. "Well, that's life." most people will say, especially dudes. I'd like say, "Well, that's death." Live for today everybody, this is your future. LOL
This is kinda what im dealing with atm, except my parents are still alive, just not capable of dealing with the lifetime of hobbies and collections crowding them out. Its not something i like to think about dealing with some day. But it will happen. The only guarantee in life, is death.
