everyone talking about the ohka but can we take a moment to appreciate the stunning visuals and dogfights with zeros, hellcats, and bettys all shooting another down
@Joshua Ngau Ajang the models are stunningly accurate such as the engine cowlings on the A6M5 shown or even my favorite part where the Hellcat firat dives on a G4M1 and you see his sights shake as your pov from his cockpit shows the flames being sent into the bomber. Beautiful and to think this was hand drawn
@@gutentag587 tbh, I dont really like the Helldiver, too blocky for me. The Ki-61 is too European for me to enjoy either. and they were featured for only one scene in this
CdrChaos Nah If they make anything that isn't waifu martial They won't get enough degenerates -fapping- watching to be worth animating. Trust me man, there been allot of good anime but they rarely get sequel or be heard in the anime community.
@Joshua Ngau Ajang I dunno about that when most modern anime throws in a ton of shoddy cgi to be cheap and lazy during any scene with motion more complex than a hand wave
damyou12ggw 64 the background was mostly done in normal paper with oil based ink. The cells (planes, characters and stuff that's in the foreground) were drawn in acetate paper, which is transparent. They drew on it and painted the underside with acrylic paint, I believe. Then they placed these cells on top of the background sheet and photographed / scanned everything frame by frame, before compiling everything. You should watch Akira - The Animation and Coloring Process over at Tyrozaphi's channel.
I wish there was more anime that featured WW2 with conventional warfare at the time. No anime girls, no magic, no time travel, just men and their machines fighting a war.
@@impguardwarhamer Everybody makes their war movies to make themselves look better, even the americans, russian and british do it, so if they want to, let them, not like nobody else does it, there are only some 15 ww2 anime that i know and all of them are good
@@felipeacioly7135 I would say this Anime aka the cockpit is one of the best pure WW2 movie, if you want some modern stuff in WW2, Zipang can be watched, both are interesting in their own ways and perfect animation
The Cockpit was a really nice OVA. This took scenes from Ep.2 "Sonic Boom Squadron" and a few scenes from Ep.3 "Knight of The Iron Dragon" and it's pretty unfortunate that the series only made it to three episodes, when they could've done so much more. I also remember someone posting the second episode where it kept the japanese voices with subtitles, and used the English dub when Allied soldiers were speaking, that was cool.
@necro elmo I was talking about the manga. He said protagonists today are bland so I gave him a protagonist that wasn't bland. And Berserk is ongoing so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Anarchy Empire You can say whatever you want, but it wont change how I feel, anime today is just waifu after waifu, and Ive grown tired of it, what happened to all the cool anime from the 80s?
@@redjaypictures4528 oh they definitely still exists, you just ain't watching them, in fact almost no one is any more, that's why you just don't hear about them much.
Leiji Matsumoto who made this work had a hard time as a foot soldier during WW2. He was almost dying in the battle. But local people saved him and he could survive. He realized the importance of peace and the reality of battlefield. He wants to announce the message below through his works. 「War makes people go mad.」
For some reason. This is the only war time anime I can find. It's not only not bias, well, you know. Japanese tends to show how heroic they are and demonize the Allies but this series. It's so neutral that I can't believe it's made in Japan and anime. My favourite part is where this clips came. A story about the Baka Bomb pilot. I was going to bail out after seeing how they portray their pilots as heroes but then they cut to the American sailors mourning their dead pilot who just wants to become a cartoonist after the war ends. All he want is the war end as he is sick of it and just be a cartoonist and live a peaceful life. Then it cuts to show both pilots (the escorting zero pilot) who vows to take revenge to each other.
@@sanignacio1999 considering how the reality is, what they did isn't considered bias and pretty neutral on the war they are still proud of. That's what I mean
It's just humans in a nutshell, Americans have them acting as the "heroes", British, probably Germany, France. There's no "good" side in war, all of them are either bad or just, neutral. They're either war criminals or just a soldier.
American Ship: ha! What do they think they are going to do dropping a bomb at that range! American Ship: the bomb is accelerating. *the bomb accelerates*
It's cool seeing the Japanese side of the war through anime. I remember the old Disney-produced World War Two information or propaganda film-Strenght Through Air Power-promoting the virtues of the Army Air Corps and how strategic bombing would help the other armed forces win the war. This is a different I opening perspective.
Here is the english translation of this beautiful text: "I won't repeat the sad times anymore. However, I don't want to lose the feeling of giving my life to protect important things and important people."
When it comes to direct-to-video anime like this one, the animation always top notch. Best quality animation is the one that can only be found in video stores.
Impressive. The music just adds to the story. The attention to detail is just mind blowing. The clouds the scenery is just... total loss of words, just simply a beautiful piece of art. Cheers.
And then boom, 200 people, the carrier is on fire and has lost 40% of it's combat capacity..........oh yeah 6 hours later the carrier is up to 95% combat capable is back in operations, because it's an American carrier and those things just never die, seriously only 3 combat carriers where lost......and like 50 where build.... because again America.
Decepticunt69 Have you seen modern western cartoons? I stop after my teens when western cartoons were no longer action just pure comedy There a few good ones after you picked out the waifu trash
Rex Wort Only the worthy ones, and not included the ponies cartoons that everyone is going bronnies over it, the kind of American cartoons that I watch are violent and vulgar like Rick and Morty, and now I heard Netflix is bringing back Invader Zim, with new episodes, I guess it’s time to sing the DOOM SONG.......(ahem) DOOM DOOM DOOM DOOM DOOM DOOMDO DODOO DOO DOD ODOOM!
Economy. Plus Fuji Film was ending its cell paint production back then. This was probably made when the bubble burst. Can you imagine chasing deadline by using multi-plane camera and manually painted cel these days? These guys must've had more sleepless nights just to finish one episode compared to those working with PC.
Mauzer, youtube is starting to take now videos and channels! Everyone save your favorites or all of them. Mauzer you should keep a backup for all your videos
@@derrickeaton1269 I'm not hating on red tails, I was making a joke. I know the Tuskegee airmen were some of the best but the red tails movie was extremely inaccurate and physics breaking.
@I'm not a racist because I'm not white If old anime was for children then how was the anime in this video made, it isn't exactly a story for children.
Title is 'The Cockpit'. I remember that one particular scene where Rheindars (flying a Ta-152) escorting captured B-17 which carries the world's first atomic bomb and most important of all is her lover: Melhenna is also onboard in that bomber. Sad is that one of the Supermarine Spitfire was able to shootdown the B-17 and burned including Melhenna and her father. After that tragic moment, Rheindars went full turbo boost and shoot down the last Spitfire and live on as coward but didn't sold his soul to the Devil.
This showcases how American fighters fought. Attacking on the dive, and disengaging with the built up momentum, "boom and zoom." It also shows how getting into a dogfight with a Zero was suicide.
@@scorpiontdalpha9799 it is still a Suicide, American fighter built for speed and pretty great on that, but not prolonged turnfight, especially if it compared with Japanese plane
@@cardiv5zuikaku944 Have u read anything historical accurate about A6M Zero? It is the best plane IN THE EARLY PART OF THE WAR and it eventually had problem against the new aircarfts from the US such as Hellcat, Corsair and Mustang The reason is that Japan didn't invest in newer and more powerful aircrafts. They invest in heavy ships and upgraded Zero
@@scorpiontdalpha9799 Yes i know but you know the reason why Hellcat and Corsair can do much better against Zero is because they have more speed and great diving capability, something that Zeroes don't have, not better turn rates. Also saying Japanese didn't invest in newer and powerful aircraft is not entirely correct, Japan made plane such as Ki-84 during the war, and even the elite 343rd Squadron that fly the new N1K2 Shiden Kai, plane that can compete with American Hellcat.
Which is why like what NetVoyager says, American use Boom and Zoom tactics instead of prolonged turn fight against Zero, since Zero are not made for this role, so it gives American fighters the upper hand.
Honestly i remember this aesthetic due to me watching alot of og animes like the macross series and other og ones that had little to not that many girls in it.
Planes I could spot and recognize. America: Curtis SB2C Helldiver 0:04 Grumman F6F Hellcat 0:33 Probably the Ticonderoga (CV-14) based off of where the kamikaze struck the aircraft carrier 4:08 Japan: Kawasaki Ki-61 Hien 0:25 Mitsubishi G4M Medium Bombers 2:09 Yokosuka MXY-7 Ohka "Baka Bomb" 4:01
@@cardiv5zuikaku944 Thanks, I don't know everything about Japan and it's WWII equipment. So, I appreciate the correction for making this list more accurate for those who may be interested in the planes featured.
The sad part is? That ohka probably just put the carrier out of action for a while. And all the American materials shot down? By the end of the month most were probably already replaced. And all Japan had just done was waste war materials bringing one ship out of action and remove a few squadrons from the playing field
That is what they try to emphasize "It's pointless, now think, what can all these men who died in the war do if they are allowed to live 30 more years?"
That was basically the Axis in a nutshell. Make a lot of initial gains in a fast paced campaign, inevitably have your advance into enemy territory stall out because of a lack of resources (mainly oil), then lose everything you gained to the Allied industrial superpowers through a long war of attrition that you never had any chance of winning.
For anyone who thinks that this is old school anime I either missed this or it wasn't aired in the US . This looks New School to me . Way too smooth between frames. . AND as for the BaKa bomb pilot .... GET THE HELL AWAY FROM MY SHIP !!!!!!! Is a quote from the Capt. of the Cruiser that was the target .
Shotgunman5 If you knew Naval history I was quoting the Capt . that saw the bomb coming toward his ship . In REAL Life . Not some anime . AND I wasn't Disrespectful .
