Hullo Sarah, I believe that I prefer the watercolor painting. You did a lovely job with both of your paintings! I know a guy who paints industrial and commercial buildings and he uses hot press papers to get those fine details with watercolor paint. I know that I need to use my paints a bit thicker than normal and I have better results in getting fine details even on cold pressed paper. I have struggled with planning ahead to ensure that I am still able to paint my lighter colors by using a masking fluid next to darker paint. I know that we just have to remember to think about what we are going to paint and keep those thoughts on track as we work. It just takes time and experience. Thank you for sharing this lovely example of the two mediums side by side, well done!

I like the watercolour one just a smidge more. I really like how you did the fireplace and especially the fire.

I really appreciate this tutorial and the eay you made artworks to really see how theyd be used practically. Ive been looking for these same search criteria and finding a wierd amount of just idk, ink drippings and experimental art type videos instead of this lol

thanks, helped me to decide for inks ;-) guess with regular acrylics it can create anything other mediums can and ink is lightfast. on top a mixing set of gouache for the opaque, matte and brushstroke free cartoons. i tried but couldn't get acrylics to look like an old printed disney comic book :)

Thank you for this comparison, it really shows the differences, and your narration help to figure it out as well! If you've tested, I assume going acrylic ink over watercolor is no problem, but going with watercolor over acrylic ink won't work, right? Because I assume acrylics coat paper and is not absorbent anymore to receive watercolors. Am I way off with this thinking?

Acrylic ink is probably the best if you do intend to mix mediums. You can bring out fantastic details by mixing a base coat of acrylic ink and colored pencils on top.

I draw comics, do you think that the colored ink is better then the watercolor in coloring comics? From many years before there was digital coloring Marvel & DC did they use colored ink or watercolor?

Just saw this video. Comics often used Dr ph Martin's India ink or concentrated watercolor. I started in ink and learning comic illustration around the time as digital took over I believe the Joe kubert school used the inks as well.
