Excellent! Jenny I have a question, can one be able to mix inks into gel medium, to create a translucent effect? More specifically alcohol inks with Matt gel medium. I also have heavy gel gloss.
Yes you can use alcohol inks in acrylic mediums. You can also use acrylic paint, tube or liquid watercolor, gouache, gelato crayons, mica powder, ground up old eye shadow (or new shadow from the dollar store lol), ink pad reinkers (all kind- dye based, pigment based, solvent based), fabric dye, powder pigments. You could scribble markers onto plastic or glass and get a very lightly tinted colored medium. Anything with color that will mix into your medium can be used. You can use these with any medium like: Matt medium, gloss medium, gel medium, texture paste, wall spackle, fluid medium, watercolor ground, gesso etc etc. Happy experimenting 😊✌️🎨
Thank you for this video. 1) Please explain what you meant when you said your were using a limited palette in painting the egg. 2) What were the colors, and why did you say they comprised a *limited palette?* 3) Is there such thing as an *UNlimited* palette? I hear the term *limited palette* thrown around so loosely. It’s rather *confusing.* 4) Does the term “limited palette” have *multiple* meanings? 5) What is *your* meaning of the term “limited palette?” I really hope that you will clarify and answer my five questions! 😊
I know with alcohol ink you must use a mask and nitrile gloves ( and perhaps safety glasses)...but you never mentioned any PPE for using Acrylic ink...is it safe to use and not necessary?
She says here she’s using 50/50, so equal parts water to ink. I would start with two parts ink to one part water. The more water you add the lighter and more translucent the color will become. Acrylic inks are typically thin enough to spray as is, but can clog your sprayer because the pigment particles, and the binder will cause your sprayer to get sticky when the ink is exposed to air and starts to dry. There’s not really any correct ratio, it’s more what you prefer for your project. Experiment 😊✌️🎨
