Covid-19 brought me here! I’ve had to learn how to do my own acrylic nails and I was at a loss as to how to keep my brushes from hardening. I threw away the first brush as I thought it was done for but I’m going to try this! Thanks!

after a while if you continue to use acetone to clean your brushes it takes away the shine from the bristles and it makes the acrylic powder sticky and tacky when using later on. it will be really hard to get that residue off the brush since acrylic hardens. with practice you shouldnt have an issue with clumping on your brush.

+TheMeticulousManicuristNailTutorials I wish I would have seen this sooner. I had a cheap acrylic kit and acrylic had gotten stuck in the brush and I used the monomer liquid to remove residue from my brush but apparently that didn't work. I don't have another acrylic brush to do my acrylics with. What's a good recommendation for a brush and a monomer that is odorless? The smell irritates my stomach unfortunately.
@meticulousmanicurist
@meticulousmanicurist 7 лет назад
So sorry you couldn't revive your brush. There are so many brands of brushes. My favorite size and shape is a round #8. Just make sure is is kolinsky sable. Be sure to wipe the brush after every bead application on a paper towel to make sure there is no acrylic left on the brush. Monomer will not dissolve dried acrylic, but be sure to dip and wipe a couple of times before you put your brush up after finishing your application. I do not know of any odorless monomers, but if you ever find one you can post a comment to let others know.
@sunnysky9812
@sunnysky9812 6 лет назад
Sally's Beauty Supply has an odorless kit. I just bought it. I am new to acrylics and just learning. I bought a regular kit and the smell was horrible in a 1 bedroom apartment but the odorless one, I couldn't smell at all, even though I was told it still had a smell to it.
@ynaartsasyouliveandbreathe3533
You can buy odorless monomer but it's important to ventilate the area correctly. I've read that the classical monomer is actually non-toxic despite the unpleasantness, while the odorless one is toxic due to the additives that kill the smell. There are all sorts of tips and tricks online that help you minimise the smell in the environment.

@meticulousmanicurist

When the brushes are pure Kolinsky sable they shouldn’t be affected by the acetone. Trying to condition the brush and get the bristles back together will probably be a bigger pain in the booty buying another brush. I have a few of my favorite brushes on my online store and they last a long long long time I can use one brush for at least 8 -12 months and I use it every day all day long

Have you been using this method for a long time? Does it seem to wear/dry your bristles out any more quickly? In school they scared us from using acetone to clean dry acrylic from our brushes. I have been using my same trusty CND #8 round brush for 7 years, faithfully avoiding dried acrylic in my bristles. This is the first time I've ever had this problem and I'm not ready to let go of this brush!
@meticulousmanicurist
@meticulousmanicurist 7 лет назад
I have always used this method. It does not harm your bristles at all. You just have to be careful not to press too hard when you are scraping the acrylic out. I never had a problem with my bristles until other people started "borrowing" my brush
@christinaleister1387
@christinaleister1387 7 лет назад
I had the same experience in cosmetology school. We were told that we needed to share with our other students, which is an anxiety attack/OCD nightmare for me. After my polishes, brush on nail tip glue, acrylic brush, striper brushes were "borrowed" and returned to me two days later, I spent the most of that day in the supply room ungunking my brushes and prying my bottles open. 😫😡 This video was very useful. Tfs! I learned the hard way that no one "borrows" my tools and supplies anymore; we work hard, and pay good money, for our tools and supplies. So it pays to take good care of them so they last as long as possible. 💞

Acetone

Just don't use acetone all the time as it damages the brush as it dries the bristles out since acrylic brushes are made from kolinsky sable hair every now and then is fine but constant use big no no

You took too long to get to the point. Where did you get your brushes? I like the pink

I’ve heard that acetone isn’t good for your brush and messed the hair up.

That isn’t true especially for kolinsky sable.

do not do not clean your brush with acetone, you'll dry out the hair and kill the brush. just dip it in clean monomer , let it sit in there a few mins. if the hair has became hard, leave it in there over night.

Monomer will not dissolve hardened acrylic. It is necessary to use acetone to save a brush when it becomes hard. It will not ruin it.

if it is completely harden then acetone yes if not then just use monomer, also clean the brush with clean monomer end of day . when you pick up a ball and the powder stick on the brush when you place it on the nail, its time to get a new one, nothing last forever

That is what the video is about .....reviving HARD brushes, that's why she suggested the acetone, she also mentioned about using the monomer at the end of the application....did you not watch the video?! lol lol everything your talking about she mentioned in the video.

@Oh So Glam I agree, it will eat the bristles and the cuticle pusher should be a wooden. We are talking about real hair here! To revive I'll rather use alcohol (that is the main ingredient of brush cleaner) and a mínimum of oil as conditioner and then back in to the monomer and reshape it.

You’ll ruin your brush by the way you’re wiping it
