Acrylic pouring on glass / picture-less old frame? Give it new life with a flip cup
Today on Tracie Reed - Acrylic Pouring Designs, I am doing an Acrylic Pour on glass from picture frame for this painting. Simple cheap way to re-purpose a good piece of glass in a picture frame your not going to use - turn it into something worth hanging on the wall!
I used a flip cup technique. After the paint cured, I sprayed a couple coats with a gloss varnish.
The colors I used are:

Another gorgeous pour. I love the idea of pouring on the glass, I'll have to give it a try. I think the white frame was a perfect choice.

Those colors are making together, cobalt blue , aqua & purple I want to use with white, but I really would like to have some spots with the glass still showing & can't think of how I might accomplish that task any suggestions?
@TracieReed
@TracieReed 5 месяцев назад
Thank you. You could use floetrol or a pouring medium in those places. It will dry clear. Or, You can put down glue that can be removed once the painting is dry. Also maybe tape off the areas you want the glass to show.

Hi Tracie! Did you use any silicone to get your cells? Also, after the painting was complete, did you have any problem with the paint peeling away from the glass? It's a beautiful painting and I love your choice of colors!
@TracieReed
@TracieReed 6 лет назад
Bonnie F. Annis no silicone. There was some alcohol in the bronze. I have no problem with the paint peeling. I spray it with gloss varnish and it's fine.

Great idea I’d love to do similar without cells What would you do differently to achieve this
@TracieReed
@TracieReed 3 года назад
Thank you. It would definitely help to not use silicone. But, you might still get cells naturally. Id just depends on the paint densities.

OMG that is awesome!! I wasent sure the paint would stick to the glass but I guess it does, what do you think about turning the glass backwards in the frame to protect the paint, I guess you would get a reverse? or maybe the other side doesnt look the same at all?? The white frame is the perfect accent. I have a ton of old frames I want to try this now!! Thank you again for posting.

Thank you! I love pouring on glass. The back doesn't look that good sometimes. I just seal the painting before I put it in the frame.

I have an 8ft ×3ft piece of glass, that I want to pour on how much paint would you suggest I might need for it.

I pour on glass but I flip the glass and my painting on opposite side pictures and table tops can be undisturbed, try it
@TracieReed

Yes I've done that before. However, sometimes the painting on the opposite side is not what I wanted or like.

Hi just wanting to find out if the paint you ve done on the glass is going to stick or peel off as there is no primer on it or do you seal it after to stop it from peeling off.
@TracieReed
@TracieReed 6 лет назад
deborah noble the paint doesn't feel off. I sprayed it with a gloss varnish to seal it.

Hi Tracie! This is gorgeous! May I ask how you finished the back once you framed it? (The white frame is perfect!) Thanks! ; )

Kim Kline I just put the cardboard that originally came with the frame back in.

Kim Kline if I don't have that, I just cut a piece of cardboard to fit. I always have plenty of Amazon, Micheals or Blick boxes around! 😆

What are your ratios of paint, flo & Lqtx Pouring medium
@TracieReed
@TracieReed 5 лет назад
My mix is 50% liquitex, 40% floetrol and 10% water.
@melissabarden8826
@melissabarden8826 5 лет назад
This ratio is added to any amount of paint?
@micheleryan8429
@micheleryan8429 2 года назад
@@melissabarden8826 I am wondering the same thing. COMPLETELY new to this. Looking to do my first pour, wanted it on glass for a frame I have. I have to look up liquitex & floetrol first, I guess. Boy, this woman does beautiful work and so enjoyable to watch!

Thank you. I must have missed the above comment. My apologies. I mix a large batch of pouring medium and keep it in a jug. When I mix my paints, I just add it from the jug to the paint. The amount needed depends on the type of paint and the technique you are using. Craft paint requires less pm than heavier bodied paints. I recommend starting with 1 part paint to 1 part pouring medium and go from there. Me personally, I use more medium bodied paints. The ratio I generally use is about 1 part paint to 2-3 parts pm. However, If you are starting out using cheaper craft paints, I recommend even less pm. Since they are alrwady thin, about 1 part paint to 1/4 -1/2 parts pm. If you have any more questions, don't hesitate to ask 😊.
