In this video, I will show you how to use iridescent acrylic paint and the straws technique to create glittering results!
You need:
🔴 ARTEZA - Iridescent Acrylic Paint, 60ml Bottles - Set of 10 × 1:
- USA: arteza.com/products/iridescen...
- UK/EU: arteza.co.uk/dp/iridescent-ac...
- And my color-mixing-ratio for ARTEZA colors is:
- 1/5 paint + 2/5 Floetrol (I use bit.ly/Floetrol) + 2/5 water
- Here is a mixing example for a 4cl cup: 5ml color + 10 ml Floetrol + 10 ml water
🔴 Canvas: BOESNER - Gesso painting board 20x20cm (bit.ly/BOESNERGessoPaintingBoard )
🔴 Tape (I used this one: bit.ly/Tape_red)
🔴 Lasy Susan pink (I used this one: bit.ly/LasySusanPink)
🔴 Epoxy Resin - Artresin (I used this one: bit.ly/EpoxyResinARTRESIN)
🔴 Torch/ Butane gas burner (I used this one: bit.ly/ButaneGasBurner)

I think I'm going to get into this. It looks really fun and and as someone who can't paint, this would be easy to do especially when it comes to my MD. No holding a brush. Love it.

TIP: Warm the canvas up before pouring resin. Either by using a hot air blowdryer or sitting the canvas in the sun. Not hot, but nice and warm. Air bubbles come up faster and resin spreads nicer. I always warm my blank canvas up to remove any moisture before pouring. I live in Hawaii where it's humid, the packaged canvases need to breathe so I remove the plastic after I get them home to dry and then hit them with the blowdryer before pouring. I just kind of like it. Back in the 70's & 80's we use to make burl wood furniture, slabs of Cyprus, Walnut, Buckeye, Olive wood, etc. When the tables were ready for the finish, I used TRU-OIL, a gun stock varnish type oil. I laid it down with the edge of the palm of my hand. But before the oil, we'd take the piece from the garage to the sun for a warm-up, then back into the clean dust free garage for the oiling.

You have such lovely music playing. Then you add such awful (and LOUD!) cheering throughout the video. It’s VERY distracting and not at all enjoyable. If I hadn’t been so curious to see how the pattern came out using the straws, I would have left after the very first cheer. Please keep this i I’d with the next video you make. Thanks.
@mariegoble7138

I like the final outcome, but I will use less black and more vibrant colors (maybe purple, intense blue, bright yellow and maybe teal) when I attempt it. I really liked the way you cleaned up the edges of the canvas with two coats of clean white paint. That and the shiny resin made a big difference in how the finished piece turned out - very professional. LOVELY! I’m looking forward to trying the straw technique!

Carolynn Toloczko No harm or unkindness was meant, I love John’s work and think he is an incredible artist. Before I wrote my feedback, I thought about how I would feel if I posted my work online and instead of letting me know if they didn’t like something, they just stopped watching. That would definitely be worse than getting a little negative feedback. I believe that that’s what it takes to make one better. I think one of the reasons that artists of all kinds post their work is because they want feedback. Sometimes it’s negative, but I truly believe that it will help them in the long run. 🙂

Hello! Absolutely gorgeous!! Ilove your videos. I have a question. In this video, you applied resin to your painting after 3 days of it drying. I have 2 24x30 paintings I painted last week. Can I apply resin now? I've seen in videos waiting 3 weeks. Thank you and keep pouring. I've learned different techniques watching your videos.

Hi Valerie, I can not tell you that. That depends on many factors: color, color mixing ratio, thickness of the paint application, or was Floetrol used / eluent ... a lot of water was used ... etc .... Therefore I have pictures which I take after 3 days or after 2-3 Coat weeks with epoxy resin! I can only say: check that everything has dried well! and then try it out and collect your experiences ... greetings John

@@JohnFranklinArt I also came to the comments about that! Everything I have seen so far has said to let cure a minimum of two weeks, some recommending closer to four, before applying resin. I’ve watched tutorials from artists using glue, floetrol, and just water. I feel like I have so many formulas in my head…. Then you post three days and my brain when *squealing breaks sounds* what now?? You really don’t have any problems with it being fully cured? Not just dry to the touch but cured cured? And they still look good now, a year later, when I’m just finding this video?
