Action Replay Gamecube App Tutorial for Wii (Cheat on any GC game)

This is a tutorial on how to install and use the Action Replay Gamecube homebrew application for the Wii. This means you don't need to buy the AR GC disc, you can hack GC games for free using the Homebrew Channel!

You must softmod your wii to do this. In fact, there are many homebrew applications that won't work for you if you haven't softmodded. Here are links to the tutorials.

★IMPORTANT READ:★
- "I found out that after the cheats are activated and your at the game title screen you can take the slot B memory card out and use it for your data for that game (I had to do this because I only have 1)." -superpalkiagalaxy
- You must have the GC game in the Wii before the app is launched.
- When installing IOS keep everything as the default option.

I NEED A LOT OF HELP BECAUSE A LOT OF APPS TO THE WII MUST BE INSTALLED FROM THE WAD cIOS I DONT KNOW. BUT THE POINT IS THTA WHEN I TRY TO PUT THE IOS THING MY WII CONTROLLER TURN OFF AND MY WII GET FREEZE. SO BECAUSE THAT I CANT INSTALL ALMOST ANYTHING TO MY WII. What System Menu did you use to demonstrate this? I have System Menu 4.3 and looked at the 4.3 users section in the description. The video was taken down. I have no way to get this to work on my Wii now! Help!

I tried the MIOS patch included, and it just brings me back out to the Homebrew channel without doing anything. I tried the other one you linked to and it gives me a black screen. Help?

I did everything in the video, all the installs successful, launch ar and I get a black screen, does it matter if its a 1x madcats memorycard? and does your gc disc have to be in when you launch? what possible could I have done wrong, I got a 4.1 wii American.

When I load ar Gc it loads sunshine but it says memory card is damaged the I removed it and opened it normally and it worked like normal

I'v done everything, i had to use the alternate Mios Patcher but when i load up the AR Launcher it goes on the black screen with white text but then goes straight to my GC game. Any answers?

Ok everything installed fine,however for some reason when i load the AR it loads straight to the game,none of the AR stuff comes up it just plays the game like normal.any suggestions?please.

I cannot add cheat codes that aren't built in. I tried and sometimes I reached to add 1, but I need of add 7 codes. Other codes are un-erasable, also if there is the option. Why I cannot add other codes?

in mios patcher when I try to patch it quits to the homebrew channel automatically and I installed cios , action replay gc save file and the RVL-MIOS-whateveritis, or could somebody give me the pre-patched mios? I've been waiting a month and a half to get this so could somebody PLEASE HELP ME!?

The first MIOS patcher doesn't seem to work; (I press A on the controller, and it immediately exits the patcher), and the alternate MIOS patcher initiates, but it ends with a line that says "hash BAD"...then exits.

For most people having problems. My problem was that I had previously done things so in the beginning on the mios installer you may need to use Ios36 if you have used that previously. Change no other settings just the original IOS.

It stays on initializing network for hours what am I doing wrong I'm connected to the internet but do you have to select a different slot or a different v1234 thing for a 4.3 U wii I know there are different versions for the ios to use on a 4.3 but I want to use this one the rev 21 because I want to use the action replay app that comes with it please help could someone like explain what all the different slots and v things mean like ios249, ios248, ios36, and then like the v5918 or v3607 what combination should I use to get it to work like ios249 v3607 ios249 or like ios36 v5918 ios248 or what there are so many combinations to choose from and I don't know what they mean and which ones to use is like ios249 for 4.2 and ios250 for a 4.3 or what someone please explain to me what they mean and which ones to use to get it to work I would really appreciate it thanks

for some reason after booting up the mios patcher my wii controller shuts down. is it normal?

first my wii firmware is v4.3u but I have 4 questions: 1.why do you HAVE to use retails not back ups? 2.why a 3rd party memory card? 3.why am I stuck on the initializing network thing, do i need a different wii version? 4.does installing the files format my memory card or will it keep all my data?

If you can't download the ISO directly to the Wii, then is manually putting it to the SD Card beforehand an alternative? I mean download the ZIP from MediaFire?

i have the european version the AR work perfect. but I want to make cheat for tales of symphonia. so i choose add game, and add code. but i have a keyboard. i write the first line of cheat , and after i choose "done" for write the second line. i write the second line and if i choose "done ,that create another line ( but i don't wanna another line because my cheat is in 2 lines!) if i choose clear , that delete the line and if i press the B button , that cancelled the cheat --'. can you help me?

Mine works but the only thing is the third party memory card gets corrupted after about a few days of use. You have to have the game already in the Wii BEFORE you use the GC Action Replay emulator to prevent getting stuck on the "open/close cover screen when choosing the game and cheats

NuGaSa I'm having problems with. When I try to restore US.gci, it says "Error during restore", and I don't know what I am doing wrong. Also, when AR boots up, it gets to the Action Replay part (2:47 in the video) and it freezes there. I tried taking out the memory cards, and pressing random buttons on my controller, and it's stuck there.

when i finished doing all of the steps i launch ar 1.14 then it reads the disk ect it launches then it stays at a black screen and it wont actually go to the ar menu. what do i have to do to make it work?

For some reason, my Wii seems to freeze when I load the MIOS patcher. As much as I press the A button on my Gamecube controller, it doesn't budge until I hold down the power button. If I try to do this with my 8gb SDHC card, the application exits immediately when I press A.

Does this work with an SDHC 8GB card? I installed HBC with it, I downloaded N64 games with it etc. Everything seems to be compatible and working with it, except for this. I've followed every single step in this tutorial, but when I try to install cIOS and I get to ''Network Initializing....'' nothing happens and it stays like that for eternity. MIOS won't install either. Could you please help me? I'm a PAL 4.3E user by the way.

Sorry, I wish I could get this a little bit better: does ar1.08 write its own files on every official memory card, too? Do I have to burn it? Because I just tried to boot the dol via this application but it has the very same problems of 1.14. Do I have to set my memory card in some special way too?

The AR 1.08 dol did not work for me. Just burn the disc. If you have the ability to run GC backups then the disc should boot fine. It should write the file to the official memory card

I installed Homebrew not too long ago and I want to try and install Action Reply for the Gamecube on my without a cd but something is wrong. I followed the instructions like I was told but my CIOS Installer would not get the IOS I need. I guess my network is pretty weak or maybe the problem iswith the program. I could connect to homebrew channel with no problems at all but I can do so with CIOS Installer. is my network that bad or do I need something to improve my network connection?

Does the 3rd party Memory Card have to have the 16X? Because I have a 1X. Is that enough, or do I need to order a 16X?

Is there any way to fix the GameCube Game Clock in the Wii? The game save clock for Zelda WW reads 01/01/2001 instead of today's date (07/29/2011) and we can't use the GCN options to adjust the clock.

I got the AR to work on HB, but it won't let me save any of my custom AR codes. Every time I restart it I loose them. Is that suppose to happen?

Ok sumone plz halp. When I launch Mios patcher I get and error code saying "hash BAD". I've done everything; I even have a copy of GCBooterHomebrew, but everytime I load it and start the at channel the screen just goes green, and starts the game w/o at codes =( Ive done some searching around and nothing is helping.

Not sure if you still need this but here you go: Don't use the waninkoko cios rev21. There is a new software called cios d2x. Follow this link for installation guide: sites.google.com/site/completesg/backup-launchers/installation Note: this also gives you a download link. For MIOS, follow the instructions on this website and download the cMIOS package by Wiigator: sites.google.com/site/completesg/backup-launchers/gamecube/cmios. This way, you will not get the Hash: bad. Don't use NuGaSa. Instead use GCMM, which works the same way as NuGaSa, but it gives you more saving options. When you do this, have your third party memory card in slot A and RESTORE IN GCI FORMAT ONLY! Once you do all of this, the action replay app will (hopefully) work. It will take one or 2 tries to boot up. If it says "Failed to initialize FAT" in the loader, then switch to a 2gb or lower SD Card. Happy Hacking!

Thanks for the great tutorial. Quick question.... I have the ORIGINAL AR Card that came with the Action Replay, and I put it in Slot B, but it does not get recognized. I know it works because I just used it on a GameCube at a store and it was just fine. Do I need to use a regular Mem Card instead? Thanks

@DsHacker14 Thanks for the reply. However, after being extremely afraid if losing my save files, it just goes "Offset: 237632", and then after pressing A it flashes something for a split second and then "Error during restore" shows up.
