blackpink has 2 concepts. BLACK: tough and urban PINK: cute and sensual. (although its concept is mainly BLACK) blackpink is the evolution and revolution of kpop because it leaves conventional kpop and enters pop / urban with a totally vanguardist and international concept, blackpink takes kpop to another level, there is no group or artist in the kpop industry that approaches the revolutionary concept that blackpink embodies in his songs.
A little background on the video: *HOW YOU LIKE THAT* is about coming back from a dark place stronger than before. There are many Greek references in the video, a few examples are: The winged statue in the temple represents Nike, Goddess of Victory. Rosé, in the beginning, is portraying Persephone, Goddess of Vegetation (plants, flowers) and the daughter of Zeus. One day while she was out gathering flowers, Hades, God of the Underworld, abducted her and dragged her down to the Underworld where she was forced to become his wife. The video shows her in her beautiful image, surrounded by flowers, as well as how she became, dirty and grey, staring up at the world through a hole in the Underworld. She was eventually allowed to return to the surface for part of the year, which is why we have Spring and Summer. Jennie, in the burgundy dress, has dancers who are "crawling" over her face with their hands, a reference to spiders. Right after this we see Jisoo, in front of flames. She is seated in a chair which also has a distinct arachnid design. The Trojan Horses at the end are a message from BLACKPINK to the world. They symbolize the fact that BLACKPINK, like the Greeks, will emerge and take over the global music world. If you look at the last scene you will notice that on the inside of the dome it looks like there's an organic growth over parts of the ceiling. It's actually a map of the world that the group is going to dominate as this song was from BLACKPINK: THE ALBUM, their first worldwide release.
Also for Jisoo in her scene with the spider chair i think ,and i gave read it around, that it represents Arachne's story She challenged Goddess Minerva on a duel of weaving. Once they finished, Arachne's work had no flaw in it, it was perfect. This caused great fury within Minerva and she started beating and humiliating Arachne. This caused Arachne to commit suicide out of great shame. After committing her suicide, Arachne was transformed into a spider.
Fun fact : They used and still use real-built sets for every music video. You can check out for more detail on "How You Like That MV making film" and "24/ 365 with BLACKPINK Episode 2". Next time, Please react "DDU-DU DDU-DU" & "KILL THIS LOVE. I swear you will like them.

Thanks for the Frost shoutout! My poetry-loving heart giggled with glee 😉 My favorite BlackPink song is "Playing With Fire" (and maybe "Whistle") -- both highly recommended for you to check out btw -- but my very first BP song is "Kill This Love". I would have never been able to break down this MV at this detail. Thank you so much for sharing your thoughts! This was so much fun to watch.
Excellent analysis! Very in depth and you are picking up a lot of the symbolism that many reactors miss. Please do "DDU-DU DDU-DU" there is lots of depth and symbolism in that as well (actually most of their stuff does). You can watch it just for fun and enjoy, but the deepness comes when you re-watch what is going on a few times. It might take a few times with and without captions to get the scope of everything, but that is what makes their videos such a great watch!
I've been watching this channel for 2 hours already. I was going to watch a little bit of reaction videos and cover videos, but I ended up clicking subscribe and like. You're good at making videos.
*BLACKPINK MEMBERS* *ROSÉ:* 🌷(my bias) MAIN VOCALIST & LEAD DANCER. *JENNIE* MAIN RAPPER & LEAD VOCALIST *LISA:* MAIN DANCER, LEAD RAPPER & SUB VOCALIST *JISOO:* VISUAL & LEAD VOCALIST.
BLACKPINK with 70 million subscribers on RU-vid is officially the artist with the most subscribers on the planet, 1 month ago they snatched the #1 position from Justin Bieber who had been dominating the ranking for 8 years.
BlackPink is definitely elevated art. The entire aesthetic is very deeply thought out, the director Seo Hyun-seung, who also masterminded BP's other MVs "Ddu-Du Ddu-Du" and "Kill This Love" "Lovesick Girls" ... all right almost all of them... is brilliant and known for his "fierce concepts." This clip also really reflects the soft power aspect of Korean gmnt involvement in arts funding and the seriousness of the training at film school, as you can tell from the production values of this clip... all on actual sets, no CGI!...which is as much about projecting the sophistication of Korean popular culture as attuned to a mass market conscious globalised world as it is about "making a film clip" for a band...
If you turn on the CC you will know what they are saying. All of their videos are outstanding! I've never heard anything by them that I didn't like. They released 2 songs on their debut in August 2016. Whistle and Boombayah. Whistle was the only one that used green screens. All others since have been sets. Enjoy the journey.
HOW YOU LIKE THAT, achieved 86.3 million views in 24 hours on the day of its premiere on RU-vid, won the VMA for best song of summer 2020, won 14 music awards in Korea and a few days ago it reached one billion views (fifth song of blackpink in surpassing one billion views on youtube).
BLACKPINK never uses CGI or green screens in their music videos, everything is 100% real and built from scratch exclusively for the mv, the music videos are the most expensive and elaborate in the entire kpop industry, even the girls' outfits are from chanel, dior, celine, louis viutton, yves saint laurent etc
BlackPink is so good. I love their song Playing with Fire and I highly recommend a reaction of that. BUT I HAVE ANOTHER IDEA/SUDDESTION TOO!! One of their songs a lot of people watch first when discovering BlackPink is Ddu-du-ddu-du. That's a great one to react to and THEN you could react to Stray Kids KINGDOM performance God's Ddu-du-ddu-du where they did a mashup of their song God's Menu with Blackpink's song but also made it their own. It's so good, and you can hear Stray Kids sing live. As always, it's your channel and do what makes you happy. 👍💜
i really love this analysis! and i can tell that you enjoyed that a lot :) i'm really glad i watched this and now i'm subscribed to your channel. i hope you react to more blackpink, my personal favorite music videos from them are "kill this love" and "lovesick girls" 🤧
Yay, thank you so much for reacting to #BLACKPINK ! All of their MVs are top tier and hopefully you will take deep dive into all to give us an insight of your analysis. You might also want to check out videos relating this to Greek mythology, it's pretty cool.
Glad u liked how u like that sir! Pls react more of blackpink mv's :))) i really liked ur reaction it's the kind of reaction ive been looking for, the one who dissects the mv . Uve got a new subscriber right here:)
a crap ton of Greek mythology references in the imagery of this music video. All of the girls trained in dance, singing and rapping for about 5 years before their debut. Like bootcamp style training, 14+ hours a days, everyday. They lived together, practiced together. Their management would evaluate them every month or so, and cut people from the team who weren't up to scratch. It was tough. You can watch their Netflix documentary Light Up The Sky to know more of their backgrounds. Blackpink music is split into their Black concept or Pink concept. Their Black songs are more badass, with more trap/rap/hiphop beats and elements. Pink songs are more cutesy, bubblegum pop sounding. How You Like That is obviously one of their Black songs.
i think you're going to love the video for "kill this love" from them. the symbolism in that video is just as insane as this one. another thing that stands out about their videography is that they use symbolism a lot but it's never exactly IN YOUR FACE which makes it much more enjoyable to pay attention to
BLACKPINK is the biggest girl group on the planet, they are the kpop queens and with more than 32 billion views between RU-vid and Spotify it is officially the most listened to girl group in all of history globally, the incredible thing is that they are only 5 years old of musical career.
Almost 1.5 years streaming this MV watched a thousand times at least but that kind of details I never thaught You and blackpink and YG really blew me up
Welcome to the Blinks club...you are officially one of us. Kill This Love by Blackpink 3. As If Its Your last by Blackpink 4. Ice Cream by Blackpink 5. Whistle by Blackpink you got a lot of homework to do: you should watch each member solo project as well; 1 ) solo by Jennie 2) In the ground by Rose 3 ) Lalisa by Lisa Goodluck :)
O wow, never thought an actor would says a lot over their song nor even their MV, but wait i just realized that this is still remain as a reaction video tho haha... but the thing is i'm gonna say it from now that i believe it'll be a fun long ride if any of their song/music video would be a regular on this channel. But then again no pressure about it cuz eventhough if we always extremely passionate about these 4 powerful ladies we also love to see a chill, slow nor a genuine journey like yours... Well anyway, thank you much for checking out their music men and for sure your analisys was trully wholesome too, so yeah you got me as your new subs, welcome to BLACKPINK's universe and see u soon on the next one...
"How You Like That" is a song recorded in two languages (Korean and Japanese) RU-vid records, including for the most-watched premiere, the most views within 24 hours for a music video-accumulating 86.3 million views in that time-and for the fastest to surpass 100 million and 200 million views. It also became one of the most-liked videos on RU-vid with over 20 million likes. Over 1 billion views in 504 days, becoming the fastest music for BLACKPINK to exceed 1 billion views. They have documentary on Netflix "BLACKPINK: Light Up the Sky"
BlackPink FINALLY in Your Areaaaaaaaaaaaaaa! Go check out their billion viewed MVs "Ddu-Du Ddu-Du" and "Kill This Love" and also their debut MVs from 2016 "Whistle" and "Boombaya". thx
Great reaction. Check out any of their 4 other billion viewed MVs, they are all awesome. Check out Lisa's solo songs (she is the one with bangs), Lalisa (which just broke the record by a solo artist for 24 hour views on RU-vid with 73 million views, 5th overall behind only a few songs from Blackpink and BTS), and Money (and even better song that Lalisa), both of which came out 2 months ago and both have over 300 million views. First of all, this song is one big FU to their haters, and each of the members have been the targets of hate, especially Lisa who was the target of racist attacks and even had threats of physical violence where the Thai Embassy in Seoul even felt they had to get involved. The MV goes much deeper in Greek Mythological symbolism than you would imagine, unless you were a Cambridge University (yes, that Cambridge in England) graduate in Greek Classism that opinioned in the RU-vid video (English Priest reacts to Black Pink How You Like That) that Rose (wearing a wedding dress) falling in the bed of roses symbolizes the story of Persephone (Greek Goddess, daughter of Zeus) being dragged to hell and forced to marry Hades (Greek version of the Devil). Each of the Blackpink members plays a different Greek Goddess that suffers unspeakable tragedy but at the end comes out triumphant. So, YG (their agency) developed several story lines that touch on female subjugation and empowerment. There are at least 5 RU-vid videos explaining all the symbolism, which also touches on Idols being driven to suicide by hateful netizens. Blackpink goes deep. As to your comments on the level of complex visuals, you should check out the RU-vid video by Mera, "Why You Can't Look Away From Blackpink". There Mera discusses how each of the members are shot consistently from MV to MV. She points out that Rose is often shot out of focus and then into focus INTENTIONALLY, which gives the effect that she is an otherworldly being or Goddess. The Mera video is a great video for someone like you because it gets into film theory and is an essay about cinema as it relates to BP. She discusses how across multiple MV's each of the BP members has their own distinct "video coding", where each member has their own set of lighting, camera work/movement, composition, editing, colors and design ("member specific cinema"). Mera discusses how YG's directors utilize the idea in cinema about "the anatomy of a creature", where you use aesthetics to create a metaphorical creature or phenomena within a person, and how they apply this principal to each individual BP member. Jisoo for example is a creature of the night, much like a vampire, often moving from shadows into the light. It is fascinating. All credit to Mera and YG directors of course. It is trully amazing the level of work and dedication that goes into the design, story-boarding and symbolism in BP's MV's, way beyond anything coming out of the US these days. Welcome to the Blackpink cinematic universe.
I really hope the somtimes young and all toxic blinks take step back and appreciate what YG put into blackpink. The quantity isn't much... but quality... you can bet all your life in it that the agency delivers. Its always a pleasure seeing professionals praise YG content. Whether its music, art, fashion, music videos, actors. They see quality. That's what I always love about YG. The quality of everything around the music makes it stand up more. Its epic upon epic. That's why blackpink and other YG artists have the power to mesmerisefsns and others. It's always a dust the shoulder moment for me seeing the artist/agency getting praised on many. levels.
react to the *"DANCE PERFORMANCE"* of HOW YOU LIKE THAT, with 920 million views it is the most viewed choreography in the entire history of RU-vid, including the 10 most viewed choreographies in all of history 7 are by blackpink, and of the 5 most viewed choreographies views of history all the top 5 in the ranking are from blackpink, they are a phenomenon.
_I subscribe, I love your reaction and analysis and we look forward to more content from the kpop queens, believe me you will love her they are another level, for something is blackpink's motto is: _*_BLACLPINK IS THE REVOLUTION_*
BLACKPINK IS THE MOST POPULAR GIRLGROUP and ENtitled as THE BIGGEST GIRLGROUP in the world. they arso and the most SUBSCRIBED 'ARTIST' in general in youtube around the world.
This MV is a great place to start, but for anyone curious on song release order... all BLACKPINK songs and solos in release order (update 20211031) Detailed CHRONOLOGICAL ORDER OF BLACKPINK RELEASES all songs including b-sides: (list includes title tracks which have music videos and b-sides and collabs which do not) Debut Aug 08, 2016 digital release with WHISTLE charting better in Korea and winning on weekly music shows (was girl group record 14 days after debut) and BOOMBAYAH more popular worldwide and more MV views on RU-vid, if you go in order PLAYING WITH FIRE and STAY were released next on same day (Halloween Oct 31, 2016) digital release, STAY hits different (folk pop ballad) and has lowest MV views (only 280M) because people love the hype songs. These songs were promoted on Weekly Idol EP. 277 on 20161116 then 7 months later June 22, 2017 AS IF IT'S YOUR LAST digital single (upbeat moombahton song), This single was promoted on Weekly Idol EP 310 on 20170705 and on their first Knowing Bros. ep.87 on 20170805 then a year later June 15, 2018 their big breakthrough hit DDU-DU DDU-DU (and dance practice NO MV b-side Forever Young charted very well in Korea 2nd place after 1st place Ddu-du Ddu-du at 2018 Gaon Chart award show for song of month, also 2 other b-sides Really & See U Later NO VIDEOS just concert performances) 1st CD release Square Up, (Ddu-du Ddu-du quadrilogy? KTL, HYLT, Pretty Savage have similar vibe and structure ). Ddu-du Ddu-du is most watched music video of all-time by a Kpop group with over 1.6 BILLION views. This song was promoted on Idol Room episode on 20180623 where Lisa famously showed how fast she learns choreo. (Oct 18, 2018 Dua Lipa collab KISS AND MAKEUP for special edition repackage of her album, sadly no MV but Dua Lupa showed up in May 2019 at BLACKPINK Newark concert night 1 to perform on stage with them (sadly I missed out because I went to night 2) Nov 12, 2018 Jennie is first member to release a solo and it was titled SOLO, very popular & won song of month at 2018 Gaon Chart music awards beating out Twice and EXO; solo CD release. then a year after Ddu-du Ddu-du April 04, 2019 KILL THIS LOVE released shortly before their iconic Coachella performances and American tour (and dance practice NO MV b-side DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO plus 2 other b-sides Kick It & Hope Not NO VIDEOS only concert performances), Kill This Love CD release, (May 28, 2019 Lady Gaga collab on Chromatica album SOUR CANDY sadly NO MV, but a static photo of Gaga with song got over 20M views in 24h on RU-vid beating out views of the Lady Gaga x Ariana Grande Rain On Me MV so how's that for BLACKPINK's power on RU-vid? later got a lyric video with some floating CG mouth creatures or whatever) then 14 months after KTL on June 26, 2020 (see a pattern? spoiler: they had around a year between comebacks) next massive hit in Korea HOW YOU LIKE THAT (also popular on Tiktok) CD single (with tall paperback photobook) pre-release for THE ALBUM. then 2 months later on August 28, 2020 ICE CREAM ft. Selena Gomez (my least favorite, but still very catchy, more pop-oriented, mostly English except Korean rap by "Mona Lisa kinda Lisa") 2nd pre-release for THE ALBUM. Selena filmed her part separate in LA because C19 (and same reason no real dance practice just stupid CG animated Zepeto nonsense) digital single, then finally(!!!) on Oct 02, 2020 LOVESICK GIRLS as title track to THE ALBUM (debut week #2 on Billboard 200 albums chart & charted 26 weeks) first full CD 8 songs including HYLT & Ice Cream plus 5 more b-sides with no music videos: PRETTY SAVAGE (b-side performances on weekly music shows, later got a performance on Late Late Show with James Corden promoting January livestream concert THE SHOW), b-side Bet U Wanna ft Cardi B (other least favorite because Tommy Brown style doesn't fit BLACKPINK style but song had good vocals, all English, Cardi going PG rated lyrics), CRAZY OVER YOU (all English), LOVE TO HATE ME (all English, love it and Lisa's extended rap, wish it had a video), and then my favorite song of year despite it being a ballad YOU NEVER KNOW closes out The Album. Lovesick Girls was promoted on Knowing Bros. ep.251 on 20201017 March 12, 2021 Rosé finally got her 2 song CD solo ON THE GROUND debuted #1 song worldwide on Billboard Global charts both excluding US and including US. OTG MV beat Psy's Gentleman getting 41.6M views in 24h setting a Kpop soloist RU-vid record at the time. The b-side GONE (my favorite of 2021 so far) got MV in April (we saw parts of it in January livestream concert THE SHOW along with stage performance of 2nd half of song). Her solo was promoted on Knowing Bros. ep.272 on 20210320 with her close friend actress Hyeri (from girl group Girls' Day) whom she met on variety show Amazing Saturday. Sept.10, 2021 Lisa's solo LALISA MV breaking multiple RU-vid soloist music video records with 73.6 million views in 24 hours (passing both Ariana and Taylor) and later breaking Psy's record for Gentleman as fastest soloist worldwide to get 100M views (in just over 49 hours). Lisa had her debut solo performance on Jimmy Fallon's Tonight Show (like Rosé had in March): ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-rZYxzen9uEA.html BLACKPINK RU-vid channel released the more impressive LALISA SPECIAL STAGE video 2 days later which included the great black and gold outfit from the MV: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-08x_TcTyw8o.html Now THIS is how the American tv performance should have looked (though yeah you can't have an outfit change halfway through a live performance). This is how you help a great performer like (my ultimate bias) Lisa to shine. I love the song and think it's the kind of ballsy move that only a mononym superstar with confidence and swag could pull off, but it needed to be paired with another song that would balance the release (like similar to my wishes with Jennie's solo, I was disappointed there was no extended fast rap verse to show off Lisa's skills outdoing her LTHM rap, possibly in the b-side. NOTE TO YG: WE NEED AN EDGY RAP LINE B-SIDE ON THE NEXT BLACKPINK EP for JenLisa and a vocal line song for ChaeSoo). Lisa's single album has the b-side MONEY which is more geared towards fans of American hip hop/trap flex songs. LISA released a MONEY PERFORMANCE VIDEO with full choreo on Sept.23 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-dNCWe_6HAM8.html (the dance practice video shows choreography better) she previously mentioned the song having a dance break and almost spoiled choreography in an interview for OUTNOW when she started dancing in her chair then realized she was giving it away... Oct.22, 2021 LISA collab where she co-wrote some lyrics DJ SNAKE x OZUNA x LISA of BLACKPINK x MEGAN THEE STALLION - 'SG' (aka SXY GRL, collab previously referred to as SOLM, SnakeOzunaLisaMegan) released MV ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tJXPfNDVF4I.html footnote 1: ALL BLACKPINK music videos have short (
Thanks for reaction to BLACKPINK! ❤♥ They have 5 MV above 1 BILLION views. Please try them all. DDU-DU DUU-DU [1.7B] - Kill This Love [1.4B] - BOOMBAYAH [1.3B] - As If It's Your Last [1.1B] - How You Like That [1B]
Nothing you said was wrong. Blackpink’s production team - musically and visually - are always thorough and deliberate. And Blackpink are consummate performers. If you like this video, you’ll love Blackpink, period. As to Bengals v Steelers, I’m conflicted. I’m a lifelong Steelers fan but I just moved to Ohio….
So. I tried to watch several other reactors because there were new (Dimash) performances i suddenly really wanted to see a reaction to. I could not take it... a minute in I had to stop every time... each their own, this is only my experience; those are well-liked reactors i hear recommended a lot. What I did was come here and just watch this instead and yes, now i feel better! (Blackpink is new to me too, although i knew their name and i know i'd heard a song before but not sure what.)
really good reaction. I know you touched on the 4th level deepness with the Greek mythology, etc, but I would like to see you do an even deeper analysis reaching the 5th level with spiders and stuff. thx
Since you're checking out new artists, I would like to recommend TXT (Tomorrow x Together)! They're the second boy group under BigHit (now HYBE) and they're really good! Unlike BTS, their storyline started like right when they came out and is really interconnected with all their stuff. I believe "Nap of a Star" is the first video of their storyline, but I'm just getting into them myself. Otherwise, some of their very good, non-storyline heavy songs include "Blue Hour", "0x1=LOVESONG", "Magic", and their debut song "Crown". Their videos are really cinematic and I think you would love that! Anyways! Loved your reaction! You always pick up on things that I hadn't noticed before. BlackPink has some really great songs and videos so I'm looking forward to your thoughts on those as well. Have a lovely day!
There is a channel called Jolly, they also made a reaction of How you like that, you should watch their video, there is a lot of info, start watching it at minute 2:52
